Will we see 2+ hour long episodes again? Will it improve the quality?
The reason I say, "improve the quality," is because I know a lot of people were displeased with Season 2. Me, I love Season 2, I thought it was great, but I put that there for those who were dissatisfied with the end product.
The majority of the episodes from Season 1 were all about two and a half hours in length, and the first episode of TWAU was also over two hours long. However, starting with Season 2 and later episodes of TWAU, Telltale decided to cut back and make the episodes only an hour and a half long, causing the writers to cut back on some things they wanted to put in the game (like the ability to talk to people, causing some characters to be underdeveloped, and the ability to explore the environment). But with TFTBL and GOT, it seems that they went back to making over two hour long episodes again, which is a good sign. So with that in mind, do you think Telltale will allow TWD S3 to have over 2 hour long episodes, like we had in Season 1, and will it improve the quality of the game?
Me personally, I would love to see over 2 hour long episodes again. I would like to control Clementine a lot more and talk to other characters. One thing Amid the Ruins did right was that there was a lot of exploring in that episode (you had the museum, the observation deck, and the actual civil war site), to bad the writing of that episode was worse than a 3rd graders. So if Season 3 can have more of this, I think it will be great.

Both GoT and TFTB have had 2 hour long episodes so quite possibly.
We'll have to wait and see.
I honestly expect TFTB and GOT to go back to the 90 minute formula, though I could be proven wrong.
Man I hope you're wrong.
I hope so to, but I don't mind the length so long as the quality in their respective stories are good.
They should add the season 1 formula of talking to people in hub areas. The 3 Options + Exit was perfect in every hub, sadly in s2 we are only allowed 1 line of dialogue and we cant talk to the character again.
Wolf Among Us Episode 1

Not really 2 hours.
When I played it was like 2 hours 15 minutes.
As long as those two hours are not unnecessarily dragging things out and adding fluff to meet a certain time criteria, then yes, that should be an improvement over what we had last season.
Not sure if you're being serious.
I'm sure they can come up with something that doesn't feel like it was only put in to make a 2 hour limit.
I'm sure they can as well, and probably will. I'm just saying that if they make an episode two hours long just for the sake of it being two hours long, that could end up being an issue of it's own.
That's definitely a concern, but like you, I have the confidence (even if some others don't) that Telltale can write great two hour long episodes that don't have any fluff to them.
Maybe it was a little longer than the other episodes, but I don't think it was a full 2 hours.
It did feel like the episodes were getting shorter, I would love to interact with characters more. That was part of what made S1 so good.
You're splitting hairs. We're talking about 35 seconds short of the mark here. You might as well just say the episode is in that two hour time frame.
The episodes were consistently 1 hour and 30 minutes, some for me were about an 1 hour and 45 minutes, but barely. But still, that extra half hour addition to the game would be great because it can give us more opportunity to talk to people if the writers so decide to put that in.
A lot of people you could talk to a couple of times before the hub disappeared, like I remember being able to click on Pete and Nick at the river like 3 or 4 times before the hub disappeared. But it would be nice to be given more options to talk to them about like we had in Season 1.
Yep. It's important to make sure each episode is as long as or as short as it needs to be for that piece of the story, as quantity doesn't necessarily equal quality.
One thing though, Metallica: I'm not sure they actually said they were forced to cut hubs, conversations etc. out? They just did what they felt was right for the stories they were telling?
I honestly don't mind length as long as the content within them is good, but yeah... more length can lead to more hubs/interactions that could make the story good.
2.5 hour episodes for S3 plz. Also, I hope they keep the episodes long with GoT and TFTB.
Hopefully they stick to quality over quantity. I would love for them to be longer but I don't want them to come out sloppy and poorly written.
I hope so, I have to say that even though I liked season 2, the fact that some episodes were rather short bothered me especially when you know that you'll have to wait several months to get the next episode. I understand why there are time limitations on movies and tv shows but this is a game which means that it doesn't have to be short and they could use it to their advantage to delve into the characters' backgrounds and put interesting puzzles in the game.
We need the optional hubs.
If you want you could explore and talk to the different people in there. Each person having several different options to talk about.
Or you could just move on with the story, therefore satisfying the faster-paced players.
For example, the drug store, you could talk to everyone and become closer to them, or you could just talk to Carley and go to the motel.
I can't see GoT getting shortened, there's a lot going on.
Loved S2, but I would also love a 2-hour or more story from TWD S3. As we have seen with TFTB and GOT games we got around 2 hours of content (not only that, but replay value as well). S2 could have benefitted so much with what they did in the past and have optional dialogue with the sub-characters. Maybe Telltale realized from Youtube play-throughs that most people never bother with the HUB area dialogue and decided to scrap it to save time/money or maybe they just got rushed with development. Hopefully we can expect that if they add more quantity (time) will also come decent quality (writing) instead of just shoe-horned dialogue and observations.
you mean like episodes 3, 4 and 5 of season 2?
I can see it getting shortened, despite several things going on, it has one more episode than most other Telltale games (besides CSI, Sam & Max Season 1, etc.) so it has more breathing room already.
I thought those episodes were good, but they did come up with some lazy things, turning Carver into an irredeemable monster, the lazy way of getting rid of several major characters, and its complete 180s on several characters (Bonnie and Mike come to mind) already established character.
I didn't say they were forced to, but it's likely that they had to take stuff out or not even include them at all because they were exceeding their allotted time. Give them that extra half hour, we could have had more hubs and could have explored more. Because they had to get to a certain end point for the story in such a short amount of time, it seems likely that they didn't include stuff in the game, such as the hubs, so that they could get to that end point in a timely fashion.
I agree, I'm going to be really pissed if Tales and Thrones start having shorter episodes.
I disagree with 3 and 5, but episode 4 was either lazily done or rushed out the door, perhaps a combination of both. I still like Episode 3 and Episode 5 remains my favorite from all of Season 2, but to each his own.
To be honest, while playing The Wolf Among Us Season One and The Walking Dead Game Season Two, I never realised how short the episodes were until I went on the forums, it felt pretty lengthy to me but I guess that was mainly because I was too busy enjoying it to notice it's length, I do hope that they at least make 30 minutes worth of extra content for each episode if they go back to 1 hours and 30 minutes to at least we can have a bit of character development and maybe a hub or two in each episode.
I hope we get 2 hour episodes. Quality will definitely improve, and might actually make some time for an on-screen romance between characters (dEFINITELY NOT CLEMENTINE).
That is a really good idea.
Whew, you got me scared there for a second when you said that.
Season 1 practically had an optional hub each episode, even 400 Days kind of had one with Shel, so that would be a good idea, especially if talking to them will have an effect later on.
TWAU Ep 4 i finished in 1 HOUR! I was very annoyed by this and this was taking my time on the episode. We all pay good money for these games and Season 1 of TWD gave us lengthy episodes (especially ep 4). I really hope Telltale writers see this that we want longer episodes, more hubs etc. Make it like Season 1!
I definitely realized episode 4 was shorter, but it was definitely more than an hour (at least for me it was). I know the last episode was barely over an hour, but there was a lot going on in that episode. But I do hope they bring back some things like the hubs to make the overall experience better and allow us to interact with other characters more.
Agree with you MetallicaRules (Which they do by the way )
