Lee *spoilers*
Lee once a convicted murder, found a young girl known as clementine. He heard her pearls die so he decided to look after her himself till this epidemic ended. After finding out his family was dead he realized clementine was all he had left. So he protected her in all ways possible. Then she ran away.....he was frightened so he looked for her, and got bitten. Out or determination he cut his arm off and traveled the city to save her and give her one last hug. After finding her she saw her dead parents.....he comforted her and then let her leave while he turned in to a walker. That is a change of heart, Lee Everett owed her nothing but gave her everything including his life.
