How should TWD end?

I know this is thinking far, FAR into the future, but it's an issue I'd like to address now if you don't mind: how exactly will The Walking Dead, the show as well as the game, end? And I'm not talking about the main character dying and then that's it- I mean will a cure ever be found or will humanity die out? As I said, I'm thinking far into the future and the longer this franchise can go the better (especially if we get to play as Clementine is S3 and beyond, though at some point there will probably a change of main character), but when it does inevitably come to the end how will it all finish?

Personally, I'd like to see this game and (if possible) the series end with human kind being defeated, perhaps adding in a philosophical note to finish things off. In the old world they couldn't find a cure, so trying to find an antidote to the disease in apocalyptic conditions is even less feasible. I know it sounds pretty dark and hopeless, but I suppose that's how I view the entire concept of TWD- it's a hopeless world were everything is a struggle on the inevitable path to destruction. Some people might have a more optimistic view and may call me a pessimist, but I'm just trying to view the situation
from as neutral a perspective as possible.

I know this is a question that is looking WAY into the future, and of course no one knows whether there'll be a S4, S5, S6, etc. (though there better be!), but ending a series/game can make or break it's reputation (eg; the ending to Breaking Bad (if you haven't seen it a highly recommend you do) was excellent whilst, though I haven't seen the series itself, a lot of people criticise the ending of Dexter). How do you think/how would you like the Walking Dead game to end?

  • Apparently Robert Kirkman already knows how he plans on ending it, and I have no clue how it will end, although I highly dough there will be a cure

  • With some kickass music.

With Joseph Stalin emerging from his life-sustaining bunker to proclaim that the entire things was just another one of his jokes!

  • With Clementine making a heroic sacrifice in order to save Wellington (if that's the plot for Season 3 of course.)

    a sad death scene.

Like, this sounds morbid, but what if the final season ended with Clem just dying alone?

  • With it being all a dream :}

  • Either a sad death scene or society starting to rebuild.

  • AJ is the cure and the only hope for the humanity, so the doctors examines him to find out why he's immune, but he has to die. Clem takes AJ away from them, she kills them all and they escape in a car...

    deja vu

Sorry if you know this already, but Robert Kirkman has stated (I'm pretty sure) that it's impossible for anybody to be "immune."

  • Whoo-ee, this is a big ONE!

Clementine and a good group of survivors that have become her second family, finally find a community with a strong foundation, and is self sufficient in many ways for years to come. Clementine with AJ beside her and a couple of old acquaintances on a hilltop, looking out to the dawning of a new day. Clementine will look out and reminisce about the ones lost, especially Lee.
Maybe at Clementine's request have a statue or a moment dedicated to Lee Everett, the man who was an inspiration in her life and be remembered for all time.

Concept A for me, plus I want a positive and deep heartfelt ending that inspires hope no matter what.

    NEVER ALONE, NEVER AGAIN

  • A lot of people will take a second to get it probably :P

  • I don't want it to ever end. But if it has to, it'd be cool to see a kick-ass, older, Clem, being the leader of a kick-ass group.

  • It would technically be Clem's Fourth Family in such a scenario.

Her original family being her parents (and babysitter?), her second family being Lee's group and her third family being the Cabin Survivors.

I really don't want Clementine to have to die.. I know it would be emotionally gut wrenching with all that we've been through with her but I really want to see her survive and become stronger. Telltale's version of TWD is way superior to the TV series (I haven't read the comics) and Clementine is in my opinion their best character, so even though the future of mankind looks pretty bleak I want her to come out victorious in some way that's possible in the world of TWD.

As for the TV series... I don't think its as good as the Telltale series and I can't imagine myself becoming mentally scarred for life if it ends with Rick and the others dying (somehow I don't really mind the idea of Carl being killed off... he's just so annoying compared to Clem).
So we know that a cure will never be found since no one is immune to the virus, that does make you think what the future of mankind will be.
A bittersweet ending might do, perhaps humanity will just have to adapt to living in this new world, I'm certain that in the end they will avoid extinction.

It has Clem (I'm guessing) remembering everyone she knew, and last words she hears are "Clem?" With all the voices of those she lost at the same time. :PPP Then She dies the end.

  • XD That would be amazing! If that actually happened I wouldn't be mad at all!

To amplify how meaningless decisions are novels/show/game the rest of the world will not have been infected. They spent years trying to figure out what to do. In the end they decide the United States, and surrounding countries are a lost cause and a threat to humanity. They join together, and slaughter the Walkers, and survivors with no remorse. The celebrate the victory only for Earth to be hit by an asteroid destroying all life except for small animals. Humanity will have run it's course. I'd hate that ending but it would go along with the current feel of the books.

  • Since Telltale failed to do it at the end of Season 2 for some weird reason. I think it should end with a kick-ass explosion while Clementine walks away from it and puts on some cool sunglasses.

  • it sohuldnt end at all. What would be the point. The possibilities are endless.

  • It should end with a vaccine being created, but only the survivors can have it.

  • I think that's probably the best suggestion I've heard so far!

  • I would imgaine that's the only way a cure would work. I watched a movie a couple days ago...can't remember for the life of me, but it was about the world surviving a ZA and creaeting a treatment through a special protein...the protein isn't a cure and must be administered shortly after infection...it keeps symptoms at bay, but each person taking the medicine must take their injection every 24 hrs otherwise the process becomes irreversible..(.the problem comes in that there's a shortage of the drug which causes issues....)

In my opinion, the whole apocalypse being solved by a cure or a vaccine is a pretty lazy, and unrealistic, way to end an apocalyptic scenario. The fact is, the world's top scientists couldn't stop the disease before and those scientists who are still alive would never have the resources and manpower to produce a cure. And even if someone did, who would they give it to? The likelihood is that they would be killed on sight by Bandits and then that cure would be lost forever as only that scientist would know how to make it. Distributing such a drug would be impossible.

That's of course assuming that the antidote is only to stop other survivors getting infected- what about a cure for the Walkers themselves? Well, this is scientifically impossibly since the people are already dead and are just shells of the old person controlled by the disease in order to spread itself further (or that's how I perceive how the disease works, anyway). Killing the disease would do nothing, as the person is already dead- you might as well just kill the Walker through normal means , because NO cure can bring people back from the dead

  • Sounds like a decent film to be honest

  • yeah, I don't think a cure would work on people who've already turned because they're walking corpses. I think it would have to work like that movie I described...people would have to get the antidote before the infection kills them. It would work like AIDS meds...not a cure, but keeps you alive

  • Yeah let society come back by being decent human beings and building communities with the virus inside and walkers as an everyday obstacle like potholes on the road.

  • Also, I am One (Not crappy Will Smith movie) gives an interesting take on the ZA. One man has the cure for a Zombie like virus in his veins, but seems to be the last man on Earth. The thing is, though, it can only be used to prevent one from becoming a zombie like thing.

Oh, sorry mate I get what you mean

  • Hmm. I always wanted to see an ending where the humanity just adapted... I mean, animals adapt to their habitats and etc right? See, for example, the food chain, where the walkers are humans predators. In the end, we just learned how to live and raise our children in this kind of world... like, it turned out to be our everyday life. Seriously, does any movie, book or game show this with this point of view?

  • The show already confirmed the disease is worldwide....

Unless, of course, you just throwing an idea around.

  • I dunno if it's in the comics, I haven't read the comics, but TT TWD is canon to the comics, not the show, so if they haven't mentioned it being a worldwide epidemic in the comics, you could tweak the story and say that the Americas had to be quarantined

Or did another movie do the whole "zombie infection suppressing drug you need to take every 24 hours" thing before it did?
