  • Sorry I meant my PC not MAC

Please rename the prefs.prop file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then restart the game, and your saves should be restored.

Can you please clarify if you tried my above solution and were able to resolve your issue?

My apologies, if that did not work, please try backing up the prefs.prop file in

    C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

to a folder on your desktop, and rename it to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then take the prefs.prop file you previously renamed to .bak, and move it into the above save file location, and see if you are then able to continue your saves.

  • Hello, I think I have a similar issue to some of those described above. I tried to play the game and I can see the cursor and voice options but none of the background graffics.

After looking over your Support Tool information, it seems that your computer is running below the minimum system requirements to run the game successfully. Where we require a minimum of 512mb of dedicated memory, your computer is currently running at 144mb of dedicated memory. Your computer uses an integrated Intel graphics card, which we do not recommend using for our game, as they tend to run under minimum specs. I recommend either trying to update your current graphics card's drivers to the latest version, and see if you are able to play, or try playing the game on a computer above minimum system requirements if you have the ability to.

You can also try changing the game's resolution and graphics settings to a lower setting, and then continue the episode, and see if your issue is resolved.

I apologize, after looking over your support tool information, there doesn't seem to be an extra prefs.prop file in your file directory. Please rename it to prefs.prop. Below are a few potential solutions to resolve your issue:

    1) Ensure you have the latest drivers for both your graphics card, and your computer’s BIOS

    2) Restart your system

    3) Unplug your gamepad (and all other USB devices other than keyboard/mouse) and plug in headphones to the audio out jack.

    4) Verify your cache if you purchased through Steam (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335)

    5) Run the game as admin

    6) Run the game in compatibility mode (right click on game’s icon, click properties, click compatibility tab , and we recommend running the game in Windows 98/ME ) (We recommend Windows 98/ME)

    7) Reinstall the game

    8) Make sure that the Steam application is not set to a compatibility mode (right click on steam and click properties, then check compatibility, and make sure that it is not checked to play in a different OS)

    9) Disable Steam Overlay, if you purchased through Steam (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3168263)

    10) Opt out of the Steam Beta, if you purchased through Steam (http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/828934424165581080/)

  • I'm not sure if this is open, but I might as well try. My computer completely crashed. Some files were saved including my saves from Walking Dead. I ended up re-downloading the game and when I went to start it blank screen. I looked on this forum a bit and unistalled both copies in case it was causing any issues and reinstalled it again. Still blank screen. I've gone through the files and i can't find the prefs.prop.bak. I got the download from the site and not steam if that helps at all.

If you start the game, and reach a black screen, but are still able to hear the game's sounds in the background, please try starting the game again, and when you see the blank/black screen, please try switching the game to Windowed Mode using the shortcut (Alt+Enter for PC, Command+F for Mac) and see if you are then able to see the game correctly. If so, please then try changing the game's resolution and/or graphics settings to a lower setting, and click Apply. Then try switching back to Full Screen Mode by using the same shortcut, and your issue should then be resolved.

Please check if you have Steam cloud saves enabled. (You can check this by right clicking on the game in your Steam Library, clicking Properties, and click the Updates tab. Near the bottom of the page, you can see if the Steam Cloud is enabled for The Walking Dead: Season 1.) If it is enabled, does disabling it, and restarting Steam allow you to access your saves?

My apologies, unfortunately after looking over your Support Tool information, I cannot seem to find the cause of your issue. I recommend updating your graphics card's drivers to the latest version, then start the game again, and see if you are able to successfully start Episode 2. If you are still unable, I recommend uninstalling, and reinstalling the game.

  • I'm having issues while trying to open The Walking Dead. I have OSX Yosemite 10.10.2, MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013). The game boots but everything is black. I can hear what I believe is a opening menu and while moving my mouse I can hear it touching links but everything stays black. Here is the link to my Support Tool Information. If you are experiencing a black screen on Mac OSX 10.10 or higher when starting Season One, please try the workaround suggested by another player using Mac OS 10 Yosemite, below:

    1) In System Preferences, select Displays, then select Scaled - More Space to change the screen resolution to very detailed.

    2) In System Preferences, select Dock, then deselect 'Automatically hide and show the dock', to be able to click on the bottom of the screen.

    3) Start up the game and run it in windowed mode using the Mac shortcut (Command + F).

    4) You should now be able to see the main menu now and change the screen resolution to one that fits the window.

  • I am having a similar problem to many here, playing TWD Season 1 (bought and downloaded from Steam). I played through the entire game and then in anticipation for Season 2 went back to review what I had done and Episode 5 had no stats listed for it. When I tried to replay the episode my screen went black and will not allow me to play. I tried putting it into windowed mode already as I saw that as a potential solution but it did me no good.
