Christa is looking more likely as S3's PC every day

edited February 2015 in The Walking Dead

I don't have any rock-solid proof, of course, but the signs are there:

1) We don't know what became of Christa after being separated from Clementine. She never got to Wellington, that much is sure.

2) She's the one remaining character (besides Kenny) who has ties with Clementine AND Lee, so Telltale wouldn't be completely abandoning Clem's arc if she were chosen as PC.

3) We've played as an adult man, and a little girl. An adult woman seems to be the next logical step, completing the "ZA family trinity" of father (Lee), mother (Christa), and child (Clementine).

4) Casting Christa as the PC would allow Telltale to keep Clem's fate following NO GOING BACK shrouded in mystery until the final episode. It's safe to assume "What happened to Clementine?" will be the question on the lips of most players when S3 begins, giving S3 a clear through-line (using an old screenplay term) to tug gamers along.

5) Christa has already been established as a durable character (maybe even more durable than Lee or Kenny), and with Omid D.O.A., Christa is now an ideal "blank slate" for the player to assume control of. Most important of all:

6) We can FINALLY find out what exactly happened to her baby.

  • This actually makes so much sense, I can't believe- I never thought of this..

    Wow.

I just can't- This is the best prediction I think I have ever seen.

  • If that's true, that's pretty upsetting to me.

I'm all for supporting the idea of having Christa as the protagonist for Season 3. As much as I like Clementine she doesn't make for an engaging protagonist, she works better as a supporting character.

  • [Burns the bow like burning a bra] >.> would loooove to see them try and get away with saying something like that on Clementine, people would riot.

  • I'd rather have Christa's fate be a mystery.

  • I wanted to play as Christa in season 2 to be honest

That sounds really possible. But how would Christa's story work? Telltale would have to explain how she escaped the bandits then make a big time skip till after Episode 5 or something. Unless, Season 3 would take place during the same time of Season 2 or her escape is left unexplained.

  • To be honest, Christa as the protagonist would have worked much better than Clementine. Would have make her role in Episode 3 and 4 more believable, for example.

  • You know...this really makes sense, I do hope this is the case. If I'm honest, I don't want to play as Clementine anymore. It really didn't work well, because she basically did everything and made the hard decisions even though she is eleven.

I like your theory very much, playing as Christa would definitley be more fun.

On another note, I really hope Season 3 will be more like GoT, and much different from Season 2, which was basically a slaughterfest of different writers' storylines and ideas.

  • Christa as s3 protag and Clem as deuteragonist is my dream

  • To be honest looking at season 2 its kind of obvious Alvin and Rebecca were meant to be Christa and Omid but they had to age clementine so they replaced them

  • Great post. Interesting theory. I wouldn't mind at all playing Christa. I have always liked her.

  • Im not sure I like the Idea of being Christa inS3. When first introduced she was rude and and untrusting of Lee after he proved himself to be loyal to Clem. Then the way she looked at clem when omid died and then when she was lecturing clem about keeping the fire lit...she just seems cold and unlikeable. ashamed to admit i havnt read the comic, maybe she was more likeable there. Id like to see clem as an adult female..which will give us the option to have played as a man, women and child. Maybe...

  • Just to put this idea into the mix, they may have learned from their 'exploring Kenny's fate in season 2' comments ;)

As interesting as this post is, I really hope its not the case. It honestly would be no different than them putting Kenny or something as the playable character. For one thing, she is technically an established character (in terms of personality) and not everyone likes her. I, for one, always hated Christa.

I think that Christa will be the PC and Nate will be the main antagonist, Nate will want "Just a taste" of Christa.

  • To be honest, why are there so many to be honest's? :P

  • I would be sooooooo happy if Christa was Season 3 playable character. It would be a perfect way to bring the series full circle. And Clem's arc could be left ambiguous enough that everyone would be happy with their given ending and still know Clem is alive int he end.

Plus Christa may be mean sometimes, but she's tough as nails and a definite survivor.

Nice post I like your theory however I wouldn't want her to be the PC. I'd like her as a main character but not the PC. She already has a personality so the player wouldn't have that much influence over her and I would have the same problem playing with her that I did with Clementine and that is that we wouldn't have any control over her and we couldn't form any relationships with characters.

  • To be honest I might pull out a Sam L Jackson gif and say "Say that one more time!"

To be honest, why are there so many to be honest's? :P

  • Can't be any worse than Kenneth.

I personally think Christa would have been great as a protagonist, seeing as Season 2 essentially ended Clem's story by giving her multiple outcomes. Unfortunately, Telltale seems happier with leaving her fate a mystery rather than ever bringing her back.

  • Noooo!! Give back my Clementine!

Hey, I actually don't mind having Christa as a protagonist, as long as Clementine's not completely forgotten. But I'd prefer Clementine.

  • I'd rather not, i think Clementine's story is done, they gave us six endings or whatever. Pick one and be happy with it. I hope they keep their resolve to go a "new" direction. Rehashing old storylines IMO was one of the main reasons why S2 was a let down to me.

  • a 'new' direction doesn't have to mean new characters and creating new characters would just lead to rehashing old stories for new characters...new characters doesn't make the action new.

Anything that they can do with a new character they can do with Clemenetin

  • My point being, bringing back people just for nostalgia like Kenny was a mistake, and should not be done in the future. To me it ruined his character, i remembered in Season 1, as my friend. I remember him in S2 as a crazy nutjob, who is still my friend. His legacy was better before S2.
