I don't know if it's just me, but he sort of reminds me of Benjen by his appearance. Their noses are similar, as well as their narrow eyes, and similar kind of a beard and hair. And I absolutely loved Benjen so it's no wonder that Frostfingers caught my eye.
Yes, there is just something thrilling and masculine about him. He may be cynical and pessimistic, but he also seems to have that wisdom and knowledge that only age and living in the edge can bring. And don't even get me started about his voice...

Now that you mentioned, I thought Gwyn looks like a younger version of Lady Forrester. Didn't like that.
