That is exactly how Aaron was introduced to us in the comics. They are definitely following the comics really closely at this point. A couple fun seasons are ahead of us if they continue to follow the comic storyline.

    I don't remember him sneaking up to Maggie and Sasha's counterpart(Andrea) while already having previous knowledge of the name Rick Grimes.

    That is true. In the comics he snuck up to Rick and Abraham. However just like in the tv show in the comics he came up to them with his hands raised and telling them he had good news and asking them to take him to their leader.
