How many of you have read the TWD novels
How many of you have read the TWD novels which give the now official backstory to the comic Lilly and Govenor? I have read all five books (Fall of the Governor was split into two).
I actually thought the first two Bonansinga books were pretty darn good (Road to Woodbury was really good) and those two books gives a very thorough backstory for the Governor and Lilly. However starting with the Fall of the Governor books Bonansinga really seemed to slack off. The third and fourth books are riddled with mistakes that anybody who has read the comics and paid attention while reading it could point out.
The fifth book 'The Descent' is worth skipping unless you can accept an absolutely huge mistake that practically the entire plot is based around. There is another book coming out at some point this year. I will probably get it simply because I am a huge TWD fan and want to get everything that is released. But for anybody else it is probably highly reccomended that you stop reading Bonansinga's books after Fall of the Governor.

I haven't read them. Where can I find them?
Most any book store. I bought mine at Barnes & Nobles.
Hm...
I've read Rise of the Governor and Road to Woodbury. I really enjoyed the first one, read it in two days. It had a great plot, great characters and that twist though at the end...Road to Woodbury though...it wasn't as great. I didn't care much about the characters and I think they died too soon. Plus, the ending wasn't satisfying but I liked the book anyway.
I agree with you on the last few books. I'm on my way through the first Fall Of The Governor, and I can see why there are a lot of people complaining about it. Especially a few mistakes that make me lose immersion (why in the fuck is Wes called Gus?!). But I love TWD and will read it to the end.
Trust me it only gets worse from there. There is a point in the second Fall of the Governor book where Bonansinga says that Lilly had been in Woodbury for two and a half years. Anybody who has read the comics could tell you it would have been impossible for her to be in Woodbury for that long by that point unless she was a Woodbury resident prior to the apocalypse. It's clear from the comics that everything that happened during the prison arc happened during the first year of the apocalypse.
I've said this someplace else before and I really don't think Bonansinga did anything more than just skim over the comics prior to writing the novels. Maybe Kirkman told him a few points that he wanted him to emphasize and Jay read through those parts but I really don't think he read through the entire first 48 issues prior to writing his books.
Once a year or like three ago while my uncle took us to the store at 1 a.m to buy toothpaste and tv dinners he went to the magazine isle and started reading stuff so I saw one of the books and read to about page maybe 20 I'm unsure. I remember vaguely.
I read the first one and I liked it a lot but I grew to hate Bonasinga's style like jesus fucking christ do you really need to tell me what the air smells like every time the characters walk into a room?
Just another reason why Kirkman is a money-hungry bastard.
Far as I'm concerned, the Lilly who murders Carley is the same person who eventually kills the Governor.
I think I have Rise of the Governor but haven't read it yet.
Had it in my drawer for over a year now too.
