S2E5 - "Updating Content" - Perpetually
Hello everyone, I checked the forums and saw some PC/Steam users have been having this issue, but could not find much for PS3.
After beating TWDS2E5, I used the "rewind" feature to check a few different possibilities, and used up several slots to do so. After filling the fourth, and finishing my fourth playthrough, the game no longer seems to load properly. Whenever I go to "Play", it tells me it is "updated content" indefinitely, whether or not I am online (that is, signed in via PSN); neither restarting the game nor my PS3 has helped. The game is fully patched (1.05, I believe?), and I even tried to reinstall the game from scratch, installing every episode in order and then patching, but to no avail.
The option which lets me load different saves is also frozen, and will not allow me to change to any others when I access that menu.
Currently, I am trying yet another install. I hope there is a fix for this, or something I am missing, and that my saves are not ruined/the game is not broken.
Please let me know what can be done from my side, or if this is a known issue that you are working on from yours.
Since I went so far as to make an account to make this issue known, do allow me to say thank you for this episode; though I felt S2 was a bit up and down at points, the finale was not unsatisfying, so here is to a job well done.
Thanks.

I apologize for the inconvenience. We have had reports from players experiencing this issue on PS3, and PC/Steam, and are currently looking further into the root cause of the issue. We hope to have a resolution in the near future. Unfortunately at this time, the only workaround is to delete the Save Data Utility for the game from the Save Data Utility menu on your PS3's XMB, and start a new game in Season Two. Again, my apologies for any difficulties this may cause you, as we look further into the issue.
I'm experiencing the same thing. Any update?
We are still currently looking into the issue, and hope to have more information soon. I apologize for any difficulties this has caused, unfortunately my above workaround is the only way to currently resolve the issue. If you have Playstation Plus, you can also try backing up your save files to the Playstation Online Storage, and start a new game after your saves have been backed up.
I've just run into this issue as well. Is this still being looked into?
Thread: will not save
this game will not save anything, I was only using 3 slots I have tried to save and it all disappears it will not save it just says Data corrupted and starts all over. and today it froze. I bought the game brand new and am very frustrated with it
Thread: "Updating Content..." - PS3
I'm unable to reload my game, I saved the file last night and now it won't get passed the "Updating Content...." screen on my ps3.
Based on my research, no one has received a fix for the PS3. Is TTG working on a bug fix for this, or should we stop hoping they are supporting this game?
Any thoughts?
hi Mike,
The only question I have is this, is this actively being looked at? I work for a software company and the answer should be straight forward, a simple yes or no would suffice.
Thank you
My apologies, yes we are still looking further into the root cause of the issue. Unfortunately at this time I do not have an update, but hope to have more information in the near future. Can you please clarify if you are able to access your Save Files from the Save Files menu from the main menu, or does the Save Files menu become stuck when accessing it?
I also had this issue after playing it for about two hours. I loaded the game up on my girlfriends account and it updated immediately. I deleted my save and I was able to play again. I'm pretty annoyed and considering returning it because I don't want to devote any more time to something that might stop working again.
If I start a new game is there a chance of this happening again?
If you start a new game, you should not experience the issue. If you are worried of the issue happening again, we recommend only using two save slots until we release an update/resolution for the issue. I apologize for any difficulties this may cause you, while we look further into the issue.
I apologize for the inconvenience. Please ensure that your PS3 has been updated to the most recent version. If that does not resolve the issue, and you launch the game while offline, does the game continue to freeze at the "updating content" screen?
I apologize for the inconvenience. Can you please clarify if you are playing the disc or digital version? If it is the disc version, please clarify if the disc was purchased in North America or Europe. If you go to the save data utility in the XMB, does the Season 2 data appear as corrupted?
Hi, my save file gets stuck when I want to access it. Now it only lets me see the community decisions. Iwas on the 5th episode and so hyped to finish it. You guys also made the damn save file copyrighted and I cant save it to my usb. Only lets you back it up to playstation plus cloud and I dont have ps plus.
Same issue. Just really want to finish the game! This is unnecessary torture!
Disc, purchased in Fayetteville NC ... will go back again and check but it says corrupt and nothing saves when I turn it off I have to start all over again
Thread: Can't choose episodes on PSN Season 2
Hi,
I have the season pass for season 2 on PS3, I was at the end of episode 4 and had to delete my user (I was having problems with an update), then I created another one (with the same PSN account) within the same system.
Now I can't use my save file, nor the game gives me the option to start right from episode 5.
I'm playing it on Vita at the moment, but I don't want to start all over again on PS3.
Please Help.
walking dead season 2 is a piss off game won't save you have to start over ever time you come back to continue your game
think your screw this company doesn't care about the product send the game back get a refund that's what I'm doing
I'm in the same boat. Had all my choices from season 1, purchased 400 days, and redbox Ed season 2. Was near the end of S2Ep4 and got the updating content issue. Nothing works and I was hoping to finish this before my redbox bill exceeded the price of the game.
How there is an error lIke this on a final retail disk of a game that's not new, is beyond me.
I planned on getting Wolf Among Us for ps4 cause I enjoyed this series so much, but now I never got to finish it . Also thanks to the error , I flushed nearly 20 bucks down the drain to Redbox without being able to finish.
All my choices and data between season 1, 400 days and now this?
Unacceptable. I've tried all the troubleshoot suggestions with no luck.
I'm furious, and it's a shame cause I like supporting good developers, but this is a joke

I posted this in another topic and I'm posting it again, I'm going to have to return it and cut my losses. Really ruined what was a great gaming experience. I'll have to email redbox about a refund but I hardly doubt it's their concern a game developer had a game breaking bug
Thread: Season two episode 5 freezing
I recently rented the walking dead season two from the redbox. I have had no problems until I got to episode five. I got to the past where Clem is going to help Kenny with the truck and then it freezes. I restart the game and it freezes on uploading content when I press continue to start back where I left off. It will not let me access my saves on the game
Either for PS3.....what am
I supposed to do...I can't find anything that will help.
Thread: Refuses to Load Saves After Ep 1
I continually get about halfway into Ep 2. Every time I die, it freezes on the continue screen, music still playing, but I can't do anything. Eventually I have to exit the game and start over and there I am at the beginning of Ep 2 again. I can look in the My Choices page and see the choices I made and how far I got, but it always makes me start Ep 2 from the beginning. I can see on my XMB that the game was last saved correctly, it just never loads.
No corrupted files. No clue why this keeps happening. I'm playing the disc version, bought brand new in New York City.
Please help. I've played that part with Nick in the shed so many times I want to throw myself to the walkers.
Edit to add: On the menu, all the chapters for Ep 1 are all out of order. Not a huge deal but really weird. And I can't even open the Save Files page because it freezes up instantly and I have to reset. What's going on with this game? I had absolutely no problems with the first one.
I got the same problem U_u'
Thread: Problems episode 5
Hi there! Yesterday I was playing excintingly bc I was about to finish episode 4 and start the last one! But unfortunately after finish 4 my device was unable to connect to select episode 5. I guess the problem is related to connecting to the saved files. Don't know if it's my fault or game's fault. Any clue? Thanks a million
Just wanted to check in and see if this has been resolved; I tried again a few weeks ago, and even reinstalled the game/all of its episodes, just to be sure - but I was, unfortunately, faced with the same hurdles.
I understand that Telltale is looking into the issue, yet it is disappointing to see that not much has in the way of a resolution has arrived. With other Telltale games like Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones coming out, I worry those experiences, too, may run into similar problems. Hopefully the right measures will be taken.
I'm facing the same "updating content forever" problem, and i'm very frustrated with telltale for not solving it, please fix it i want to play the 5th episode without doing all over again... if anyone discover how to fix it please say...
It's been more than a month now since your post and still no update/resolution for this issue? and the only solution still is to delete your save data and start over again? I don't want to restart this whole game for a third time without finishing. I'm starting to think that I wouldn't be able to finish this game. (bought the disc version for the ps3)
If you currently use Playstation Plus, you can upload your save games to the Playstation Online Storage, and then start a new game. That way you keep your original save files safe until we find a resolution for the issue. Unfortunately at this time, I do not have an update on the issue.
I'm not using Playstation Plus, so does that mean that my save file is useless now? or could I wait for an update so that I could get past the Updating Content load and still use my old save?
I'm having the same issue and I'd rather not have to start over again, but it seems like the problem has existed without a solution for a while now.
Will never be fixed, we're hosed.
Thread: Updating Content PS3 Disc version
i have just finished playing through Episode 4, watched the credits and am now trying to play Episode 5 but all I can get access to is a 'Updating Content' screen whenever I try to select 'Play' or 'My Save Files' from the main menu screen. I have quit and re-loaded the game as well as reset my PS3 numerous times now and still have not got past the 'Updating Content' screen (this time it has been on for over 20 minutes). My save files must still be in tact as I can still view 'My Choices' on the main menu screen but that is only if I have not tried loading the save files/playing the game. If I have I need to quit and re-load the disc.
I sincerely apologize for any difficulties caused by this. We are currently looking further into the root cause of the issue. We hope to have a resolution in the near future. Unfortunately at this time, the only workaround is to upload your saves to the Playstation Online Storage and start a new game, or delete the Save Data for the game from the Save Data Utility menu on your PS3's XMB, and start a new game in Season Two.
We have had reports from players experiencing this issue, that playing through Season Two in smaller increments allows them to play the Season in it's entirety without running into this issue. We have found that playing through multiple episodes in one sitting may be related to the cause of this issue occurring. I recommend try playing through each episode individually, then after completing an episode and before starting the next episode, try exiting/closing out of the game, and turning your system off, and back on again. Then start the next episode, and repeat the process. After you have reached Episode 5, you should then be able to play through the episode fully, and with all of your choices in-tact. Again, my apologies for any difficulties this may cause you, as we look further into the issue.
I got TWDS2E5 for my ps3. but it never showed up on my home screen. Please hep.
Can you please clarify if you downloaded Episode 1 as well? You will need to download Episode 1, as that is the base game application in order to access Episode 5 of Season Two. After you have downloaded and installed Episode 1, please start it, and Episode 5 will be available to play from in the game.
Seriously are you a bot? You keep telling people that you're working on a fix but... come on. This can't be: the game has been released months ago. I still can't play the game I purchased till the end and if I did not pay only 20€ for it, I'd be suing you! Never seen that in my entire gamer life! And, again, NO, I won't play the game again, I just want to play episode 5!
It is now May and Telltale still hasn't "been able" to fix this problem. They could've made a patch or something to fix this issue, but after this amount of time it is obvious that they don't care. I am extremly dissapointed in Telltale and a mere "We apologize for the inconvenience, we'll look into it" isn't enough. I probably won't buy another game from you.
So here we are 10 months after the "perpetual loading content" issue has been reported and there is still no sign of a viable solution. Telltale have not commented in this thread since March, and it is now June.
To me this signals one of two things, Either the problem simply cannot be fixed, or Telltale gave up on solving this problem months ago. Could someone at Telltale please give us an update as to whether this problem is still being looked at? Yes or No? I think you at least owe us all this.
I understand that the company is busy producing new content for all of its different series, but surely fixing game-ending glitches like this must be a priority. You owe it to the players who have spent their hard-earned cash on your game to ensure that everyone can play the entire season from beginning to end without encountering crippling bugs such as this one.
The key issue here is the trust that the player puts in the developer when they buy a game. We don't expect the game to be 100% glitch free. What game is nowadays? But what we do expect is that we will be able to play the entirety of the game and experience all of the content which we have paid for.
I bought the disc-based version of The Walking Dead Season 2 after immensly enjoying season 1. I expected to play all 5 episodes as was advertised but instead I played the first four and then encountered this bug, rendering the fifth episode unplayable. In fact it seems as though i won't be able to play any of the content on this disc unless I delete my save file and flush 19 hours of gameplay down the drain. Unacceptable.
It's like buying a book in a store, going home and reading though it only to find that the last chapter has been torn out. Upon going back to the store they tell you that they are currently unable to give you a complete copy of they book, but that you should try going back to chapter one and reading through your copy of the book again, in the hope that the last chapter will be there this time. This "workaround" is not an acceptable response.
As it stands, my trust in Telltale is now gone. And the saddest thing about all of this is that I was really enjoying The Walking Dead. I really was. I would honestly love to check out some of Telltale's other series. I want to, but out of principle I simply cannot. How could I possibly justify giving this developer another cent after I have been burnt so badly with the Walking Dead?
I really hope you guys come up with a solution to this bug. Because I know that I will be missing out on some fantastic gaming experiences in the future if you won't or simply can't fix this problem.
(Note: At no point in my playthrough did I play more than one episode in a single sitting, but I still encountered this bug).
This pretty much sums up how I feel about it:
