TWD dialogue choices...

As we all know, TWD is all about choice and the decisions you make. This is a core aspect of Telltale's games and it what makes them so good...but it can also be they're greatest flaw.

A lot of people moan about the lack of choice, and in this post I want to particularly address the issue of the conversations with other characters: there just seems to be far too many decisions for Telltale to make all of your decisions count. Take for example the conversations with Rebecca: I was horrible to her throughout the entire Season, yet she still liked me. It wasn't any major thing that changed the course of the game, but it undermined the entire point of even bothering to interact with her...and that's just one example!

Personally, I think TT should change their style, so there are less CHOICES but more MEANING in what you decide to do. They should follow the examples of games like "Life is Strange" or "Beyond: Two Souls" (the game that made me cry more than TWD does, which is pretty impressive).

Take for example the conversations with other characters: they give you an option for EVERY LINE of dialogue, which is just too much and makes interact FAR to inconsistent. You can be nice to someone one moment then horrible the next, which no character would ever do in reality. Instead, with each character you should just have to make an overall decision on how to interact with them. Eg; Rebecca starts talking to me and I can choose to be "cold" or "hostile" to her or something like that right through the conversation. This would make interactions more realistic and more meaningful.

What do you people thing?

  • I think the amount of choices they have is fine but they definitly need to make some choices mather ALOT more like you said in life is strange cause that is hella good :P

  • Issue is, there's so many choices that it makes talking too varied- as I said, you could say something nice one second and then something horrible in the other. That undermines development with characters, which means the amount of choices means it STOPS the dialogue being meaningful. By just replacing all the different dialogue choices with just one approach to a situation, then dialogue choices and interactions could mean a lot more.

  • But then it wouldnt be the walking dead and it would stray away from its origin if you want to say one good thin and then say the complete oposite the next second thats your call and i dont think the developers should be at fault for that but the player is at fault for not knowing if they want to be nice or rude out of all the problems the walking dead has dialogue options is the least of their worries

  • I agree that some dialogue options should have, a positive or negative influence on their relationship with the "player" whether it is immediately, later on down the line or throughout the whole season. Even if it is just something small like voice tones, body language or the characters positioning.

  • Not quite sure I agree with your user name

  • Well who else are you gonna call in the apocolypse? :D I've sorta always been called The WM because i am known to be good with multiple weapons in action games.
