Daryl is a fascinating character - and not all his fans are over zealous 13 year olds. People constantly praise Carol's character development based on the abuse she suffered from Ed - but people never take Daryl's abuse during his childhood into consideration when it comes to his development. He could've been an angry, racist, homophobic, drug addict but didn't turn out that way. That is why I, and others identify with his character. Coming from a similar background, I identify most with him. I love the comics as much as the show and I appreciate the comics for what it is separately from the TV show. I don't want Daryl in the comics, but I want him to stay longer in the show.
And really, what is it with guys hating the fact that Daryl shows emotion? Guys are allowed to mourn and cry - especially after suffering loss. He doesn't need to be snarky and bad tempered all the time. I mean, he was mopey for like 4 episodes, the others he was standoffish. Not every male character needs to lose their minds and go bat crap crazy ala Rick Grimes when suffering. Cos if Daryl's grief is annoying, Sasha's grief must be driving you up the walls then?

I found merle over the top in season 1 and then a pretty good character in season 3. I find daryl pretty likeable in seasons 1 and 2 and to be honest season 4 and 5 he was okay however your the perfect example of a crazy fan, I dont like daryl so I somehow like merle and am all those other things.

He's badass, and he's a good addition to Ricks group, but he's not the best character of the show. I kinda hope he dies next season because he's had enough character developement and it has been THREE seasons since someone from the original Atlanta group in S1 has died. I'm just saying, if someone from the 5 Atlanta survivors must die, I would want it to be Daryl, even if that would mean that my Caryl ship would sink.

I think it's because since season 1, people were so desperate to find a character to like in the show they had no choice but to pick the redneck with the crossbow. Because he's a badass that is capable of showing emotion and not really ashamed of showing it? All characters have fans - some more over the top than others, but it's insulting to say all his fans are nut jobs. You want over zealous and over the top fans - try Beth fans.
Assuming all that in an aggressive manner yep that kind of makes you an angry fan.
I found merle over the top in season 1 and then a pretty good character in season 3. I find daryl pretty likeable in seasons 1 and 2 and to be honest season 4 and 5 he was okay however your the perfect example of a crazy fan, I dont like daryl so I somehow like merle and am all those other things.
Also beth fans are also pretty damn ridiculous starting petitions to bring her back from the dead etc.... but this thread wasnt even about her. I will give that at least beth for the most part was kind of how a teenage character would be, pretty much useless but trying not to be.
He's badass, and he's a good addition to Ricks group, but he's not the best character of the show. I kinda hope he dies next season because he's had enough character developement and it has been THREE seasons since someone from the original Atlanta group in S1 has died. I'm just saying, if someone from the 5 Atlanta survivors must die, I would want it to be Daryl, even if that would mean that my Caryl ship would sink.
Well same goes for other characters. Personally I like Daryl but his character developement stopped with season 3.
I think it's because since season 1, people were so desperate to find a character to like in the show they had no choice but to pick the redneck with the crossbow. Since no other character was really that interesting. It was never really the show runners plan all along to keep Daryl forever in the show. But when viewers finally found a character to cling on to the showrunners decided to oversell his character and keep the cow milking.
I don't get it either. He's boring and has no personality. He's not particularly good looking either so I don't know why brain dead fan girls are going crazy
