So I'm really sorry that happened to you; those people probably did it because they were plain mean and not because there was something wrong with your English (unless you were somehow really inappropriate). As for my own hesitation, it's simply that I'm anxious about posting things online and participating in anything, really (no matter how insignificant stuff like this might be). So yeah, there can be plenty of reasons why someone won't join and just lurks.
At first I was really hesitant too. The main reason is because I'm Finnish and my English is..well not always so fluent. I have been kicked … moreout of a forum before because of that..
