Each season should be all new people

edited April 2015 in The Walking Dead

Alright I know a bunch of Clementine fans will not like this but hear me out. One of my biggest problems with this game is your false choices. You're told your choices matter, they don't blah blah blah. Ok. I think that if each season were based on new groups of people Telltale could probably have decisions that matter, and alternate endings. It would be extremely difficult to have real decisions, and alternate endings that go into the following game creating even more alternate endings.
Here is how I could see season 1 playing out. Your first big choice is choosing between Carly, and Doug. Whichever you choose takes the game in a different direction. Lets say you choose Carly and it pretty much unfolds like the original except for when you're locked in the room with the salt licks. This is where another decision is made. If you choose to stop Kenny the result is you hit him, and he hits his head and dies. When you leave the room the last thing you see is him rising from the dead... The result is Larry survives, and changes his tune about you. To make a long story short this leaves a possibility of 4 alternate endings with different gameplay for each outcome. Out of the 4 endings 2 end with you and some survivors getting on Kenny's boat, and heading out to sea. The other 2 outcomes are with you getting in a cargo plane loaded with supplies flying off into the distance with Lilly (air force), and Larry and some other survivors.
Season two I could easily see you playing as say Luke, and basically starting off the way they did. Carver and his people are chasing them. There is a lot of great material there without Clementine, and you get to make real choices and alternate endings. Another great thing is playability. I think most of us would love to see the alternate outcomes, and gameplay. Instead of say 12 hours of gameplay we might have closer to 20.

  • I don't think you understand how improbable that is for a company of TellTale's size. The episodes would come out so much later than they do now if they did what you're saying.

  • Season 1 sold well over a million copies. Add 5 dollars to the price and that's over 5 million bucks. They could easily higher more people to get that project done quicker. One of the most difficult things with designing a game is the game engine. They have been using the same engine for a long time. The voice acting might add 4 or 5 days of extra voice recording if not less.

Also. Having episodes is dumb. I purchased the award winning game in it's entirety on Amazon. I played the episodes back to back, and loved it. Releasing them one at a time is annoying. When you have all that time between the episodes you are likely to forget some of what you did in the previous one. They should just put it all into one game, one release. Think I'm wrong? Go back and start playing again. Finish the chapter and then not allow yourself to play the next chapter for a couple months. It's much better being able to play them all close together.

  • They're not looking to become a huge company just yet.

  • All of what you said is an opinion. Clearly most people don't mind waiting for episodes, considering how many people buy TellTale's games before all episodes are out.

Because they have no choice. Season 1 I bought with all episodes at the same time. Season 2 I preordered. I did it because I was impatient, and wanted to play. Not because I preferred episodes to the entire game.

  • I'd be fine with new storyline, personally i am burnt out of Clementine.

You're stating your opinion and acting like it's fact. A lot of people, especially enough to keep doing it, like the episodic format. It's what TellTale does. They're not gonna change the way they do things because a few people out of a million don't like it.

  • Too bad they've been doing it for years and have turned out just fine. You're typically against me in most things I post, so I'm not surprised to see you here.

I haven't bought GOT or the other one because I'm waiting for the entire thing to be released on steam, then half off. After S2 TWDG i won't buy them piece by piece anymore.

  • I'm gonna address the "new characters every season" part of your post. While new characters are always exciting, I think people would get tired of every character dying/disappearing by the end of the season.

  • Ah. I see. Well, it just seems we have differences of opinions on how they do things.

  • Well @shellturtleguy already addressed the part of this that was screaming for an argument, so I'll leave that at that. Otherwise, I think the chance for that has passed. If they wanted new characters every season they should have done that for Season 2, because right now they'll be losing a lot of fans if Season 3 doesn't feature Clementine.
