Just finished Season two,

edited May 2015 in The Walking Dead

Hi everyone,

So I am new here, I just played season 1 and season 2 back to back and here's my overall opinion.

Overall I enjoyed season 1 more than season 2, but I liked how season 2 was quite different than season 1.

Things I noticed during season 1 and season 2:

Characters were more relatable, they were all every day characters we could relate. We had the reporter, IT guy, highschool student...
During season 2 however, everyone was a scavenger at this point. I guess it was inevitable, but as a result of this I found the season 1 characters more relatable.

Jane and Molly were too similar. I wish that they were the same character. But I know that it couldn't happen because Mollies fate was optional in season 1.

Overall I liked Jane's dialog about Sarah. Her backstory with her sister was tragic. It was definitely a highlight of the season 2.

Family was an important theme in both seasons. Sadly anyone without a family was completely expandable: Mark, Carley, Doug, and Ben.
It is quite interesting that we encountered the family members of Lee, clementine, Kenny, and Lilly, and they all had important parts in the story.Ben's dialog about his family was heartbreaking. Since he wasn't a main character we never find out what they looked like, or what happened to them. Which is a bit unfair.

In fact Ben was quite a polarizing figure. On one hand we have people hating him, on the other hand we have people loving him. He has more fan art than most of the second season characters.

I on the on the fence about this character.
Ben never got his deserved punishment. And in my opinion accidental death is not punishment. So many people died because he didn't admit what he did, and he still got the nerve to speak up, to Lee and Kenny. I loved Lee's dialog about tossing him off the train. I wish that it was an option.

Just when I was warming up to the character, the crawford scene happened. It was a very cinematic scene, but I don't think it fits in with Ben's character. He was never self-sacrificing before this point, or after this point.

Sadly Ben was underdeveloped in my opinion, and always a bit of a plot device.
Bandits raped one of his friends to death and he still gave them supplies. What kind of person does that?
According to developers we could become the crawford, during the bell tower scene, and keep only the strong ones alive. But I don't think it really fits in with the situation. Ben was a traitor not a liability. In my opinion he deserved punishment, death.
Even if we save him, he dies in the very next episode, in a random accident. Which completely nullifies the point of saving him. I am not going to lie, although I disliked his character at first, his death depressed me for a few days.

I actually disliked how everyone was sacrificing their lives for clementine. It was always clementine this, and clementine that. Although, I liked her character, it was silly for her to trust a complete stranger over Lee. Lee's death was all her fault. Second season depressed me even further when she mentioned Lee, to Luke.

In my opinion season 1 should have been the end for the group. They should have safely made it to the island. I hated to see Lee die. Second season wasn't the same without him.

Overall I enjoyed both seasons. I simply wish that they weren't killing off the characters constantly. I wish that some of the characters survived far longer. Including Mark, Ben and Carley. After Lee's death, clementine got all alone. I wish that someone was there to look after her. If Ben wasn't such a screw up he could have been the bigger brother to Clementine.

  • Nice opinions here :P I liked season 1 more, but season 2 was a more different approach that wasn't the best. but still really enjoyable and awesome.

  • I don't see how making mistakes (several mistakes) makes Ben a traitor.

Welcome to the forums by the way. Yeah, I felt Season 1 was better as well, but I still really enjoyed Season 2. Both seasons have their ups and downs, but are well written seasons that tell a fantastic story. Overall, Season 1 for me is like a 9.5/10, Season 2 is like a 9.2/10.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you consider the best and worst episode from each season?

  • Congrats on beating the game.... so what ending did ya get huh huh?

Wow, a "Just finished Season 2" thread that provides us with a nice explanation about some flaws with both games? What a great and fresh take on things, awesome thread. ^-^

  • I actually liked Ben as a character. But supplying bandits with medicine kind of makes him a traitor doesn't it?

  • I got the ending with Jane. They returned back to Carver's camp, and accepted a group of strangers.

  • He did it for the right reasons he was trying to keep them off the groups backs but he made a huge mistake but I don't consider it a betrayal. I really liked Ben too I thought he was a good character.

  • The chapter with the train was the best in my opinion. It also had a great cover picture. Kenny, Duck and Ben all enjoying the train ride. If only the actual level was that happy. I also liked investigating the motel with Duck.

For me, the worst has to be the last chapter. It was a bit shorter, and killed characters waay to fast. The worst part was the bit where cancer patients stole our boat. I also hate the bit where Lilly constantly shouts at during chapter 1 and 2 for bringing more people in. In my opinion under her rule, the motel and the pharmacy were far worse places than the Crawford.

During the second season I liked the section where Clementine sneaked into the house. Worst part was the Carver's camp. Carver was a typical bad guy beating up the children, and killing people.

  • For a new member, You sir, have made the most Mature and rational season 2 review thread on this site. You're a hero in my eyes. Welcome to telltale buddy. :)

  • Long Road Ahead (the one with the train) is not one of my personal favorites, and that's a result of the train puzzle since I feel it brings the entire episode to a complete halt when it was building so much momentum, but it's probably one of the best written episodes in the entire series. No Time Left would actually have to be my favorite from the entire series, it was short compared to the other episodes in Season 1, but the writing was phenomenal and the ending, no words can describe it.

  • Exactly how I feel on killing characters off in one or two episodes. They should have kept the group big and strong or whatever. And they die in their own death depending if you let them live in one episode.
