Please try the workaround suggested by another player using Mac OS 10 Yosemite, below:

    1) In System Preferences, select Displays, then select Scaled - More Space to change the screen resolution to very detailed.

    2) In System Preferences, select Dock, then deselect 'Automatically hide and show the dock', to be able to click on the bottom of the screen.

    3) Start up the game and run it in windowed mode using the Mac shortcut (Command + F).

    4) You should now be able to see the main menu now and change the in-game resolution to one that fits the resolution of your monitor’s screen.

We are currently looking into an issue where Mac players running Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite or above are unable to run the game in Full Screen mode, however you should be able to change the in-game resolution to one that fits the resolution of your monitor’s screen.

Please try Verifying your Game Cache, then restart the game, and see if you are then able to start the game and continue playing. You can also try switching to Windowed Mode using the PC Shortcut (Alt+Enter), then see if you are able to see the game's screen.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please rename the prefs.prop file in

    C:\Users\User\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead 2

to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then start the game and you should be able to continue your game successfully.

  • Hi, I see you wrote "The Walking Dead 2" but that is my Season 2's folder. The balck screen issue is with the first season. I've tried renaming the prefs.prop file to prefs.prop.bak in both folders but it still appears, and I'm unable to continue my saved game. Looking forward for an answer, thank you.

  • Hi. I only recently got the game and was playing through episode 1. When I quit yesterday everything was fine but then I tried to load it today and I'm getting a black screen after clicking "continue".

Switching to windowed mode doesn't help, neither does turning off steam cloud saving or verifying my game cache.

This is what I got when I ran the support tool: https://www.sendspace.com/file/fdqfb4

  • Just deleted the saves and started over. Thanks anyway.

My apologies for the delayed response. After looking over the Support Tool file you linked above, I found an extra prefs.prop file that may have been causing the issue located here:

    C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Ubisoft\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

Please try deleting this prefs.prop file, and you should not experience the issue again.

  • Isn't this where it's supposed to be? That's where the rest of the savegames are and when I tried moving it out of the folder I lost all my data. (So I moved it back in, found out I was still experiencing the issue, got fed up and just deleted everything there(except the SyncFs folder) and started over - I'm at the end of episode 2 now and everything seems to be going fine(amazing game so far btw) although I just looked and there's still a prefs.prop file there)

My apologies, you seem to have prefs.prop files in both

    C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead\

    and

    C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\ Ubisoft \Telltale Games\The Walking Dead\

(Notice the extra folder named 'Ubisoft'. Having extra prefs.prop files can cause this issue to occur. If you deleted everything and restarted, your issue will then be resolved as well. I hope you are now able to enjoy the game!
