He's staring and it makes her feel awkward.
There's probably no real reason -- she knows he's not scanning her because his eye is normal … more-- but she still can't push away the nagging feeling on the pit of her stomach. It's not even the first time he's dared to do this and her patience is starting to wear thin.
It's possible he knows it aggravates her mood and he's taking advantage of it for his own amusent but Rhys looks so out of it that she scratches the possibility off the list almost as soon as it pops up into her mind.
He probably wouldn't dare risk getting punched again either. The last time is still fresh in her mind and she almost chuckles before remembering her current dilemma.
He's concentrating hard on her face and she shuffles in her seat awkwardly. A sad attempt at a cold glance in his direction doesn´t help and she frowns, turning her back to him instead.

Fiona swiftly gave Rhys a death glare and pull his shirt.
Fiona: "When you promised to help me with preparing for our upcoming exam, I never thought that THIS is what you had in mind! I thought someone from a Hyperion planet would have an easier method for memorizing stuff."
Rhys gently take his friend's hand and pull her grip off his shirt.
Rhys: "What did you expect, Fiona? That you will be able to memorize all of Shakespears poem in a minute with my help?"
Fiona: "I don't even know who that dude is."
Rhys sighed and continued.
Rhys: "What I am saying, memorizing stuff takes time and effort. You can't remember everything in a day. You have to train your brain to do that."
Fiona: "But it is boring! Hard! Sweaty! And BORING!" [She said and threw her hands in the air.]
Rhys: "Well, study IS boring. But it will secure your future." [Rhys shake his head as he continue with taking notes.]
Fiona face-plant her face on the table, her wild long hair covering her face.
Fiona: "Well, you have a long future ahead of you, Rhys...You're gonna work on Hyperion. Traveling the stars, earning money and more money. And I will be stuck here on Pandora, living my days off as a con artist..."
Rhys pats Fiona's back.
Rhys: "There, there. Enough with the pessimistic dark words, it doesn't suit you. Come on, let's try and read this again."
Fiona look at Rhys, her head is still planted on the table.
Fiona: "Do I have too?"
Rhys: "I'm not giving up on you. Stop talking like that."
With a great sigh, Fiona concentrated and starts reading and making notes again.
"It´s time to take action or this is probably going to end up very badly for both of them."

Thank you for writing this. Although I recommend you to focus on some details little further to get these characters feel more realistic. And by details I mean like little nuances that these characters tend to have when they are for example nervous or sad and so on. I'm not an expert of fanfics but as a reader I enjoy those little details. But otherwise this is a great start. I love that people are so interested in young Rhys and Fiona.
