How different would it be if..
We played as the little Clementine in Season 2. Told the time skip to fuck off and instead of almost 2 years, we're only a few months removed from No Going Back. With Christa and Omid along with her meeting the cabin group

We wouldn't have an awesome scene of Clem stitching up her arm.
I think you mean a few months after "No Time Left...with Christa and Omid...", but anyway...that could've been an interesting route to take, but regardless of how Clementine's time went after Omid's death, all that matters is that she's jaded and is not the same little girl that she was in the last game...so I do think it's suiting that they did a time skip, but just wish they would've given Christa a better send off considering how long she took care of Clementine, especially after Omid's death
It would be kinda sorta unrealistic/wishy-washy writing if every character we liked had a good send off, especially in twd universe.
It would make her reliant on another guardian... Which in my opinion wouldn't be a good thing, given the fact that she's lost Lee so early...
Never understood that time skip. What did it accomplish besides making the player feeling estranged from Clementine?
You're not wrong, but the thing is that TWDG is not all that realistic on its own. And no, I'm not even talking about the existence of zombies, although their surprising strength and various issues resulting from that could be a valid example, especially how the military lost to such piss weak zombies.
I mean that many of the events of the story aren't all that realistic in themselves, or are insanely convenient to progress the plot. Kenny's truck just happens to stop right in front of Lee's family's pharmacy so we can get some pathos from Lee. We later just happen upon a magic train that will take us exactly where we want to go. We come across a magic plot blowtorch in a nearby train station which just so happens to be the one thing in the world that we need to cut down the tanker. The Stranger's entire story is very unrealistic all on its own. Lee's abilities after getting his arm cut off, should you choose to do so, are very unrealistic. And other assorted oddities I missed, and this is just the first season, to say nothing of the second, although suffice it to say the biggest one is Kenny and Clementine's reunion.
It's true that convenience is necessary in pretty much any story, but there comes a point where there's a bit too much. However, that would be just fine (I really don't have a problem with most of these issues, although they should nevertheless be recognized as insanely convenient writing), if they didn't also pull the "realism" card whenever it comes to the characters they don't really feel like exploring anymore, specifically Christa, especially in light of the whole Kenny surviving the horde thing. I'm sorry, but you can't say one character disappearing forever is more realistic because sometimes people just disappear... while also ensuring your favorite character who has far less reason to be around becomes a main part of the story. It's a little hard to take that as anything other than, "meh, fuck Christa, more Kenny!" Hell, I'd be more forgiving if they just said that.
Now if Telltale just said that to throw us off and intend to have her return, I'll gladly eat crow on this issue. But I doubt it.
Well, that's a pretty important part of the story they tried to tell. Clementine already had an established character in season 1, which was one of the primary complaints I saw when she was announced as the playable character of season 2. So the time skip was meant to make her into a sort of blank slate character like Lee so the kinds of choices we'd make wouldn't completely jive against who we knew Clementine to be.
In theory, anyway. Obviously, people still said, "but that's not how Clementine was in season 1!" I certainly don't like it, but for the story they went with, I understand why they put it in. I have my own issues with the time skip and Clementine as the playable protagonist, and how she clearly suffered from writer bias at many points, but not being exactly like her season 1 self isn't one of those issues.
It would give us more sense why she is the person that she is today, if we saw the two years
This was their concept probably.
But it would have been no problem to continue Clementine's established character. They could have used innocent or silly dialogue options for the first episode or so. And everytime Clementine experiences a loss or something terrible the positive dialogue options get fewer and the player can choose if he'd still want her to be the sweet girl or someone more hardened by experience. Shaping your player character's personality through your dialogue choices is a large part of the game after all.
If they wanted to give us a blank slate, they should have given us a blank slate and not the remnants of the little girl we cared about. What's the idea of making Clementine a PC if she's changed so much? It belittled everything she and Lee experienced in S1.
Stuff... Thaanngs
*No Time Left.
Yes! I would've loved that. It would be so cool if the something "bigger than 400 days" was the 16 months spent between Christa and Clem.
Edit: Forgot about the title of the thread. I think there would be a lot of distrust. Christa for sure wouldn't want to join the cabin group. And the cabin group would be worried that we're working for Carver. Not a lot would happen, between the 2 groups. Although I could totally picture Nick and Omid becoming best buds, for some reason.
It depends on is meant by a 'nice' send off. Christa got tossed aside like a used diaper and she's the one who kept clementine alive the longest. Her character deserves more than what she got.
We're still dealing with fiction and video game, so I don't want it to be as realistic and ungratifying and unknowable as real life is.
