Don't want to be that guy...
This is a slight continuity thing. The shotgun model FN SLP Mk 1 in both S1 and S2. According to research, the zombie apocalypse takes place 2003 and down the line, but the SLP wasn't introduced until 2008. Anyway I can avoid overthinking this anachronism?

Pretend that they invented this shotgun in 2003 instead of 2008
I've never been one to get so serious about stuff like this, its just seems irrelevant. The game isnt a period piece so the stuff doesnt really matter
Allow me to blow your mind further, in Episode 1, Lee uses it as a pump action, when in real life it's semi-automatic.
It is confirmed. Read the wiki on the VG page.
Then why is it there?
I noticed.
I don't see any weapon experts in the credits. Lets be honest here, TTG doesn't know shit about weapons. They think the AK -47 is just EVERYWHERE in america. In America everyone would be using AR -15s.
True, but various sporting goods stores do carry AK derivatives and AR derivatives as well.
Which ones?
I am surprised that they didn't even mention how to reload ammo, or anything else you would think people would be doing with their brass. To me, that should've been a no brainer at Carver's camp, and added in the story to make it a more believable experience.
As a gun enthusiast, I noticed that too. I love the windmill scene in S2E2 when Sarita starts firing her Winchester Model 70 in semi-auto.
IRL AR-15's would be everywhere early on. Then, when 5.56mm ammo started to get scarce, they'd probably turn to guns like the Mosin Nagant and M1 Garand that have a huge civilian ammo surplus.
I'd take an AK-47 derivative over an AR-15 any day though. Just feels better.
I been to a Cabela's and seen some with my own eyes.
And that last part I suppose, yeah.
Whatever strikes your fancy.
But aren't Mosin Nagant's ammo no longer made?
Oh, 7.62 Russian is definitely still made in high quantity. Mosin Nagants have become very popular sporting rifles, since they're extremely cheap and fairly easy to maintain. Plus, it's impossible to overstate the ridiculously huge amounts of WWII surplus rifles and ammo that have been imported.
What research? Telltale and Robert Kirkman have both said that the games take place in the same universe as the comics, and Kirkman said the following about the timeline:
So you can pretend it takes place in 2009 if you wish. But it shouldn't matter. The game (and comics) don't have to be super accurate. This is a zombie story after all.
He's getting at the fact that anyone can edit a wiki, that info is just fan theorizing that someone put on the page.
Honestly, I'd prefer a blunt weapon in a survival situation, since I don't see that good. But I'm a pretty damn good shot with a handgun, considering.
If the administators didn't agree with User's edit, the it wouldn't be there.
As if the administrators know everything.
Consider this all it's own universe if you will. Similar? Yes, but whatever fits to keep the story going.
Don't forget Nick burst firing at the end of episode 1 when you go with him
I thought 7.62×54mmR rounds were no longer in production, unlike the standard 7.62x39 AK rounds. But if that's true I'll take your word for it.
This is new to me, i didn't know a hunting store sold AK -47s
I just don't see that happening. at least not in america. Most gun enthusiasts reload their own brass.
Really? I know a lot of gun people and only a few are reloaders. It requires some expertise to avoid blowing your appendages off IIRC.
I worked the front counter at a gun store for a couple months. 5.56/.223 ALWAYS flew off the shelf quicker than we could get it. Same with .22LR.
Reloading brass. Do you mean the actual shells that are left over?
I think Kirkman knows things better than wiki and he never confirmed that ZA started in 2003. He only said that TWD takes place in "modern times" but no dates are revealed so it may be 2003 as well as 2005, 2013 etc.
Well, I'm guessing that comment is from 2009. Today he would say that you can pretend it's 2015 instead.
In my eyes it starts in 2003, and I really wouldn't use false gun models as proof for anything. Not everyone knows guns as well as you guys, if you showed a gun to me and ask me what model it is, all I could tell you is that it's a handgun.
But 2003 isn't confirmed, all that's confirmed is that it starts on July 20 in 'modern times' (the date is from the tapes in Crawford), and that is intended by Kirkman. The year is supposed to be vague, meaning it could happen at any time, on any day. I think that's what he wants to say. Or maybe he just doesn't give a shit.
Probably unrelated, but the show takes place in August of 2010, confirmed by a banner in the latest 'Fear The Walking Dead' Episode.
I say hey I don't mind that much cuz it's a game im enjoying the story in the game and playing as clem.
Yeah, the collect empty shell casings and load them with new powder, primers and bullets.
For what it's worth:
That's the map of the train routes in Long Road Ahead. While it doesn't suggest without a shadow of a doubt that the game takes place in 2003, it does suggest that it takes place within the general timespan. It might also be worth noting that this is the only texture in the game that has a positive year-date. Everything else is cut off or too low quality to make out, at least from what I can tell.
Small edit: I actually did some snooping and I found one other texture for the rest stop in No Going Back.
It's a small part of a larger texture file, but it's a poster for an evacuation notice. You can make out what says "Saturday - July 24/26"
It's difficult to tell if it's 24 or 26, but after doing some google searches, it turns out that there was a July 26 on a Saturday in 2003, and a July 24 on a Saturday in 2004.
That's some New Vegas shit right there.
At least that is how it is in my Family.
Your posts are awesome!
Hand Loader perk is best perk.
o.o cool. I bet that would definitely be a useful thing in a ZA.
Curious question since I noticed you seem to know quite a bit on guns, let's say that was community in TWDG [like Wellington for example] that needed to keep itself secure, but also went out hunting and on scavenge runs for supplies, what kind of guns do you think they would use?
That's definitely a 6, it doesn't even look like a 4.
o.o bro, nice find.
Realistically, probably bolt or lever action rifles and pistols. like the motel and cabin groups. There would probably be some semi-automatic rifles too, like the AR-15 or M1A, plus whatever guns military deserters could scrounge. Fully automatic weapons are feasible but impractical. They're primary function is suppressive fire (keeping the enemy pinned down) and since walkers can't feel fear, it's not that helpful. Plus they encourage poor trigger discipline and wasteful firing.
If I had my choice, I'd pick a small, suppressed .22LR rifle for hunting / stealthy walker killing and a 9mm or .40S&W pistol for personal defense.
However, the rule of cool would probably dictate that a town like Wellington would use tactical assault rifles and combat shotguns to show how advanced their community is.
TWDS1and2 take place in the same world as the comics and at the start of the comics the year is somewhere around 2003-2004.
