I like to play it as i like the characters and story, The Walking Dead is one of the most emotional games i have played and i am looking forward to seeing what Telltale have planned for it in the future.
Edit: I made a small change to your title to make it slightly clearer
The process and development of the story and characters. Seeing how my choices affect the game. The whole dynamic and display of the game is very underrated. Pity season two didn't have the talent season one has.
Well, I was watching someone watch a gameplay video, and I found myself feeling concerned for the characters. However they were watching a walkthrough for season 2, so naturally I got confused as to how they got there. I went back and watched walkthroughs for seasons 1 and 2, and now I love the games. Here's my reasons:
The story is engaging and well written.
. The characters feel real, and can make you feel genuine emotions for them.
I like to try to have the characters hang on to hope even though it seems like the world is without hope, because if you have hope that things will work out you can get through the hardest of times.
I like the feeling of seeing how the story and characters develop depending on what choices I make.
Now you think I would say it's because of the story and characters who I can get very protective of, but nope, it's all smoke and mirrors. I just play it for the booty and staring at all the big booties and marveling at their beauty.
I mean just look at this pair of sexy booties right here:
Call me shallow I don't care! It's the only thing that keeps me going now, just thinking of Season 3 and all the new characters that'll come in so I can gaze upon their footwear and go:
The drama, oh the drama. This stuff is better most of the crap I've seen on t.v. or in a movie. I'm happy stuff like this moved onto my favorite form of media: video games. I'm so proud of well the characters are written and how I can empathize with them, get attached, then bummed out as they die. And I just like zombies, people get pushed to their limits because of these monsters and they we see all kinds of good stuff from it.

How could this ba a troll account? Please remember that not every user has English as a first language so might have some trouble with correct grammar and/or spelling, they obviously played The Walking Dead and want to discuss their feelings with others but comments accusing them of trolling or mocking their use of English might not make them feel welcome.
I have played both Seasons more times than I care to remember. Gone through all the different choices, heard all the different dialogue.
However even now, even playing it the amount of times I have, there is always something I didn't notice before.
It could be something small and insignificant, but that's the beauty of this story. That's what brings me back everytime and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
I started playing because I was a fan of both the comics and the show and thought it would neat to explore the universe in a video game. I was absolutely blown away by season one. I loved making choices that would affect the game for the entire season (not knowing at the time that it would impact season 2 as well). I like the little nods to the comics early on and the characters drew me in very early. On my second play through I purposely picked different choices for big moments and it was almost like playing a different game which was great. I love that its basically a choose your own adventure book for a different era.

Because of the story.
Not the apocalyptic part, but rather the story of both the characters as a group, and as individuals.
And I know for a fact that that is the exact same reason why most people play it.

Because of the story and the characters. I played many games but I didn't care about the characters as much as in TWD and in telltale games in general. And the story, man. The best that I've seen in gaming history
I originally started playing it because my favourite Twitch streamer was streaming a part of the game and I got interested, so I bought season 1. I immediatly loved it. It's just great that a game can get you so emotionally invested in characters that don't even exist. The story is also fantastic.

Because its amazing!
I love the universe, its characters, the amazing story, and I enjoy the cinematic style Telltale uses for this game and their other games.

Cause I like to suffer.

Is this a troll account? I'm not trying to be a douche or anything but seriously.
I love the story, characters, atmosphere, and moral dilemmas that the characters have to go through.

You didn't finish your sentence doe.
I will, the thing in the game is not the playable hat after (Lee). It is the no playable character's and their reactions to you.
Does your computer show the "reply" button?
What....
I agree with DinoDrago and feel the same way. Plus I love the TWD TV Series and I love video games.
