I also agree with one of the commenters in that article above that hit the nail right on the head. "If you want to ditch Clem, season 3 is not a solution for you another game is." It really only made sense to switch main characters once because of the way season 1 wrapped up. Cannot see a clever way to switch up this round while still making great sense..

I wouldn't be opposed to it switching POVs and PC from her to our left behinds or unknowns from season 1 and 2. Potentially Kenny or jane, christa, molly, lily, chad, the police officer, 400 days characters...
I love Clem and would be happy for S3 to feature her in some capacity. I absolutely hated playing as her though. This is the kind of game that works best when you get so drawn in you almost forget you and your character are different people, and you just react to situations as they happen.
As I'm not an 11 year old girl I just felt like I was telling Clem what she should do, rather than actually doing things myself.
In my opinion, if telltale wanted a consistent story/protagonist, they shouldn't have killed Lee.

I partly agree but the thing is, even though they focused on other members of the group, most of the time however we get to focus on the main character. In the show and comics, we sometimes have moments where we don't see Rick. Such as the Governor story in Season 4, which can be easily comparable to 400 Days, as they both serve as a side story which leads a direct impact on the main stories. I'm not saying all moments without Rick are side stories, cuz that would be bullshit.
the problem with the game is we get one character for that and she skips most of her development in a time skip.
I used to think so until later I realized that events of Season 1 and Season 2's opening left a huge mark on her character that led up to that time skip in which she seemed different. It all racked up on her head and changed her). She most certainly had development, it was realistic for her to become the way she did, when you're young you absorb things much more easily like a fresh sponge. It is however without a doubt that Clem should've have a bit more development throughout the current events of Season 2. I myself wished they give a little more feedback on the time skip, but it is what it is. Clem is still an unfinished project, and like school, not finishing it is not a wise move. Clem's character has yet to be used in her fullest potential, just because she wasn't used so well last season, doesn't mean she should be ditched.
The group from each season we barely have time to get to know
I'm not exactly sure which series you're going for but I'll assume it's the game one. Season 1's group still had lots of development of the cast, despite the large focus on Lee and Clementine. 400 Days' cast had a well developed one despite the short time they had (unfortunately most were underused in S2). In Season 2, I feel some had at least some satisfactory development but could've been used better (with such a large cast, having long episodes would've helped developed them better, especially with the use of HUBs).

Clem was the best thing about Season 1. Protecting her, trying to provide her with some hope in such a hopeless situation.
Playing as her was pure garbage.
If a teenage boy tried to attack me on my way home from work tonight I can punch or threaten him and he will run away. If that happens when I'm playing as Lee I can do exactly the same thing without overthinking the experience.
As an 11 year old girl I'm suddenly in a really threatening situation. I have literally no idea how I would react as I'm not an 11 year old girl, so instead I just select the most appropriate option rather than "living" the experience.
While I understand that many people like playing as Clem, the thing is that many people enjoyed playing as other characters more than they enjoyed playing as Clem. It's just a matter of personal preference. So far Clem is my third least favorite playable character after Tavia and Bonnie. I didn't mind her character when she was deuteragonist and she was alright during the early Season 2, but soon things started to get sillier and somehow 11 years old girl ended up performing tasks which are difficult even for adults. Her abilities and her interactions with her group weren't to my liking and I started to like her less and less as the season advanced. While Lee's death was a fitting end to Season 1, it also robbed us the best protagonist of the game series. And seeing how poorly Clem worked as a protagonist I think that it would have been better if they wouldn't have killed him.
And when it comes to new protagonists, I'm much more excited about Michonne DLC than I'm about any idea of potential return of Clementine. For me ideal playable character(s) for Season 3 would be Christa or 400 Days characters.

I can see Christa or 400 Days but what reason would we really have to switch over to them besides it looking like a forced spin-off season from a different characters perspective. And I've always said that very thing as well that you mentioned. How even though the ending to season 1 was awesome yet had they kept Lee's death until the end of season 2 the longevity of the game series would had flown a lot more smoothly without the need for vast time jumps like that 16 month mystery out of nowhere jump.
But Sounds like your saying its mostly because Clementine was a child and didn't act like one all the time and was an adult in child's body. However, its most likely that Had Clem acted like a true kid each time then more would probably complain about the game play interactions and how helpless they are playing as a defenseless child.. then when Clem is super-kid and can do anything.. many folks turn the other way to complain about how its not realistic. But the true realism is the fact that you cannot please everyone every time. No doubt it was very challenging from the get go by making a child the main character of the game, but they needed to equally blend the power of the main character and helpless child into one and not have a seesaw of one aspect overwhelming the other in Clementine's season 2 character if she had to be protagonist.
The only valid arguments I see for the naysayers of Clementine returning as main character is either she's too boring and bland or just the fact that she's too much of a kid or doesn't act like a convincing kid enough and has as much say so and advice to give as the adults.
I think the boring and monotone character she displayed in the sequel was to show an amalgamation of all the post apocalyptic trials and tribulations she's had to endure to that point. Really every character was boring and bland at one point or another to me as they are all either depressed or wicked psychos except for the likes of Walter, Duck and Omid. Even Lee with all his stating the obvious out-loud moments every episode. But that is an annoying trait all TTG protagonists share.

At this point changing perspectives is integral part of The Walking Dead -series as we have Lee, Vince, Wyatt, Russell, Bonnie, Shell, Tavia, Clementine and Michonne. Every season has it's own protagonist and DLCs have different protagonist(s). We have already explored the story of Clem and her group in Season 2, so now it would be interesting to see something new instead of just making Clem a member of a second Cabin crew. Personally I'm hoping that the next season could have multiple protagonists because that worked well in 400 Days and in other Telltale games. It would allow better exploring of the group and it's dynamics. BTW I don't mind if Clem is one of the playable characters as long as she isn't the only one.
And I think that it's possible to have a better balance when it comes to superkids or realistic kids. In the comics Carl is at the same time pretty badass, but he is also just a child and Rick still had to help him to cope with the difficult things. Season 2 never really explored how all those events affected to Clem's psyche. And I think that with better writing it could have been possible to avoid making adults more weaker and more stupid than an 11 years old girl.
It's not all Clem's fault though, because The Walking Dead is always about the group and Season 2 group had much less interesting personalities than Season 1 group. However it didn't help that Clem did have only limited interactions with her group, where someone was mostly just appointing her tasks which adults should have done themselves. Lee always had time to walk around, talk with his group members and learn more about their worries and fears.
If people did find the overall experience of Season 2 weaker than Season 1, then it's natural that they don't want that Season 3 is just a Season 2 Part 2. Many people probably don't oppose Clem's character per se, but see her as an embodiment of all what was wrong with the Season 2.

it would be a mistake to drop her now, we've been following her story all this time, and in my oppinion one of the best parts of the story is her growing up in literally the worst world possible (yeah, i liked season 2, what of it? Clem learned some lessons). So before we leave her, i think we need to see her fully mature to become a leader like Lee or Rick did. the Clem/Jane ending hinted she was heading in this direction.
i don't think they'd drop her at this stage, she's been too important to the story, and whatever your ending for season 2, i think telltale will have it so whatever your choice, by the end of the first episode of season 3, everyone will be more or less in the same position, (their not making what would essentially be three separate games, that would cost waaay too much). eg; they each open/close on a supply run or the like.
to explain, i think as brief as Carver's role ultimately was, he made an impact, plus he was another parental figure (both he and lee were leaders who see potential in her and are each others opposite counterpart), so season 3 could be what kind of leader she is going to be, full on Lee or Carver, or somewhere in-between. (and no, kenny is not the in-between, he's just a violently unstable man and i really don't get why people like him, but that's another thread).
this is all my speculating, i don't know what season 3 will be, but how cool would it be to have a confrontation with Lilly as an adult Clem. it'd be a neat way of paying off a season 1 choice, either one of them could be resentful depending on what went down. plus i got some business to settle with Arvo...so i hope they keep Clem around. i'll shut up now.
Clementine is the most important character in the game series, its all about her and how she survives in ZA. But it doesn't mean she had to be playable. She was npc in S1 and its worked pretty well, you care about her and sometimes she affects on choices that you make. So making her npc in S3 won't be worst idea.
If you compare it to the total number of the games, then young girls aren't the most common heroes. But it's not anything unusual, I know that several games were published recently which had young girls as their main heroes. For example Anna's Quest has a little girl, and Life is Strange and Perils of Man have teenage girls as their main heroes. I know other recent games too and I haven't even paid much attention to the gaming industry, so I'm certain that with little digging you could find plenty of more games with young girl as a main hero.
Well, I liked playing as her, but I think someone else should be playable.
(EDIT) I felt as if I had a lack of choice too. It was rather "Talk" or "Run" for me, instead of getting violent. Maybe if Clementine is older, but I don't expect a major gap of time.
Yes season 2 is generally undeniably weaker than 1 except to a particular minority. It is true that new can often at times be more exciting at first and at best, but not always the efficiently better route. While I agree a season 2 part 2 wouldn't improve much of anything (unless they came with it in the form of a stronger plot). A season 3:400 Days/GOT style with the switching or constantly volley-balling characters back and forth taking its place and without Clementine could possibly flop even worse, a greater plot for Clem and company is the likely remedy I believe for now, so better trained and more informed writers could be needed most.
Then again I would not be surprised if they did do season 3 this way since Game Of Thrones and Borderlands adopted this perspective. And with the "new angle" remark they made last year it looks more and more likely. Whatever they do,.. I believe if they cast out Clem completely then this next season might be their 3rd strike out and game over literally. (Could be planning on dropping it at 3 anyway by going the redundant trilogy route).... But I hope not, hope we at least get to season 4.
IN the end whether with new characters or familiar ones, it all sort of ultimately boils down to the plot creativity and genius writing skill of the masterminds. If TTG whole-heartedly affirms that they can create a tale that outclasses even the likes of season 1 from scratch and with an all new cast and no Clem or anyone else ever seen before, then by all means I wish more power to their little fingers.lol Hey who knows maybe they can even call it "Fear The Walking Dead" oh wait.....

There's a difference between a Teenager and a Child... It's not very often that games have Children as their main characters, especially Female Children, I'm talking about main playable character too, and if you compare that to every game, you would find out that it's definitely not uncommon but rarer than that, and I'm counting ones where you can create characters too.

I was also talking about the main heroes. And Clem is almost a teen, so I don't think that it's totally unfair to compare her adventure to games which have couple of years older main hero. The age difference is equally great if we compare her to younger heroines like Lilly (Lilly Looking Throug), Anna (Anna's Quest) or Lilli (Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes).

Multiple main characters is not an issue if it's properly executed. While I constantly criticize the quality of The Walking Dead TV-series (compared to comics), I think that first two episodes of Season 6 did rather good job in telling a story from point of view of several main characters.
The only issue I had with 400 Days was that I would have liked to learn more about the characters and play longer segments, but I understand why they wanted to keep it short. Having less than 6 playable characters in an episode would be much better for Season 3. I'm thinking something like 2 or 3 playable characters and if you have more, then there's no need to make all of them playable in every episode.
And like I said I'm fine with the idead that Clem is one of the playable characters as long as she isn't the only one. But no matter what they choose to do, I agree that success or failure depends on how well they write it. Even the best ideas can be ruined with bad writing.

Agreed. She worked great as a side character and little girl you needed to protect but S2 showed she can't carry a season alone.

400 Days was perfectly capable of telling compelling stories without Clementine.
Telltale will only feature Clem at this point in S3 because of all the spite they would receive over Twitter from angry "gaming" journalists.

It's not as rare as you think to have a young girl as the heroine of the game. But sure there are more games which have a young man as the hero.
it would be a mistake to drop her now, we've been following her story all this time, and in my oppinion one of the best parts of the story is her growing up in literally the worst world possible (yeah, i liked season 2, what of it?
New character, meets Clem. sounds like copying Lee I guess but.. don't want to be Clem again....
Clementine is the most important character in the game series, its all about her and how she survives in ZA. But it doesn't mean she had to be playable. She was npc in S1 and its worked pretty well, you care about her and sometimes she affects on choices that you make. So making her npc in S3 won't be worst idea.
If you consider every hero in video games, it is actually more than Rare for a little girl to be the MAIN hero.
I want her gone and the new protagonist to be an adult again. I hated playing as Clem. Not to say I hated season 2, but it was brought way down with Clem as protagonist. Preferably I want her totally erased from Season 3, but I would accept her as a side character
Actually no the comics are about Carl mostly :P
How? You think just because she is gone telltale will suddenly forget how to make awesome story's and memorable and loveable characters?
Agreed. She worked great as a side character and little girl you needed to protect but S2 showed she can't carry a season alone.
She was a terrible boring protagonist.
In S1 definitely, she was just boring in S2.
