This season is working on Star Trek movie logic so far. Odd numbered episodes suck, and even numbered episodes are great. Yeah, I know I sai… mored I largely appreciated "Thank You" before, but looking back on it, it has a whole lot of problems even disregarding the possibility of Glenn's survival. Same with the premiere. Part of the problem is that the writers got a little too ambitious and needlessly complicated a lot of events when they really shouldn't have. "JSS" and "Here's Not Here", meanwhile, dealt with deceptively simplistic plots in comparison, allowing them to expand and develop those plots in ways that made sense.
Also helps that they crafted an interesting and very likable character in Eastman. As someone else said, I was getting serious Walter-vibes from him, and Walter was awesome, so that was cool.
Let's see if episode 5 breaks the cycle, or ends up being the "Final Frontier" of season 6. Lee save us all if the latter is the case.

It was interesting to see how Morgan went from the deranged madman he was in Season 3 to the Buddha of the zombie apocalypse. I’m just not sure this point in the story is where we needed to be given that piece of Morgan’s puzzle. That being said, I did go to Amazon to check out more about the book, “The Art of Peace” and a guy had just left a review that said, simply, “Morgan sent me.” HaHaHa….So if this show gets a Lutheran grandma living on a small island off the coast of Washington reading “The Art of Peace”, well, that’s pretty crazy!

I agree! Loved the episode. If we don't learn about and care for the characters then the show loses much of its punch. It was a bit jarring to have such a relatively calm episode after all the action-packed earlier episodes of the season. But I'm fine with that. And I wasn't bored at all. The time just flew by for me.

I was ambivalent at first about a Morgan flashback episode, but the dynamic between him and Eastman won me over very quickly. Eastman is one of my favorite characters in the entire show, all six seasons. He had the strength to defy the brutality of the world and pull someone else back from the brink. Stellar character and Episode. I teared up more than once as we learned more about him.

It really stunned me near the end of the episode to just think back to the beginning. Lennie James did an amazing job in shaping Morgan over the entire episode. For me one of the most hard-hitting parts was the ending, seeing that Wolves member say he was still hellbent on killing all of Alexandria. Morgan was in a similar position, and somehow he conquered it all. Stellar acting all around!

I too loved the episode despite the odd timing to show it. We need a break from suspense from time to time however, as having suspense all the time would just make the series dull. I loved how peaceful this episode is in contrast from the earlier episodes. Even though Eastman (great character btw) was dying, he didn't let it stop him from being his usual casual self. He's unique from the cast, and that was carried into Morgan (who I feel gets too much hate for a man with good, humane intentions as of now). I loved the character development and the overall calm atmosphere this episode gave.

I really liked Eastman's character too! I was really hoping he wouldn't die but I was expecting it because he wasn't with Morgan anymore. For the longest time I've wanted a Walking dead character with a "All life is precious" and "No killing" belief.

I really liked that he still didn't kill the guy. Even though it would be an interesting shift in Morgan's character to have him have to kill again, it would've been a bit of a letdown to see him kill just after this long story about peacefulness and not killing and the like!

This is definitely true. I would've loved to see this episode after or before the plot that's taken up the beginning of this season. Although I'm sure it makes sense in a chronological order with present day Morgan at the beginning and end.

It established Morgan more as a character and also showed that his transition wasn't just sudden. It took time and coaxing to get Morgan to the mindset he's in.

I'm a bit bummed out that they HAD to kill him. Like come on, it's getting really tiring that the really morally good people need to die. It's kinda what drove me away from the series a bit, too predictable and tasteless. I wish it was like a farewell where Morgan decided to part ways from Eastman to maybe try to find Rick's group, and that'll be the last Morgan saw of him and brings a differently, lively closure to Eastman's character. They done it before with Moralez and his family in season one, so they could've done it again. But alas....
