Am i the only one who is "not" really excited for the Michonne game?
Don't get me wrong, im glad it's being made and all but is there anyone else not really excited about it? I hear that it will link in with Season 3 is that true? I am still torn whether I should play it or not because i wasn't overly thrilled with 400 Days, i just felt the only real point of 400 Days was for us to be introduced to Bonnie as she was the only character from 400 Days that had any importance for Season 2, unless they are planning to make Michonne a Season 3 character? For me I actually prefer it being separate to the comic characters like most of season 1 and 2 characters.
So what are your thoughts?

I won't immediately buy it when it comes out. I want to judge and observe the first episode before I make my choice whatever to buy it or not. I don't know, I guess I am more interested in the announced Batman game than the Walking Dead. But I hope Season 3 will be good.
I feel the same way, I'm not all that thrilled for the Michonne series.
Having played 400 Days and Season 2 of the Walking Dead, and feeling disappointed at the overall poor narrative and lack of engaging characters and story arcs, I'm more hesitant to purchase the next game.
That's the problem when Sean Vanaman and the other writers from Season 1 left. They were brilliant. Season 2 lacked a lot of what was good about Season 1
Season 2 had good writers I think.. But It was time constraints, multiple projects and the 90 minute thing that screwed them over. If S3 is as large as they say it will be hopefully they can utilise the time to find a good balance.
I did like Season 2 and the writers were good but yeah Season 2 just lacked a lot of things from the first game and like you said, time restraints making the episodes half an hour shorter, other projects etc. That really affected it in my opinion.
I agree. Pierce and Eric proved their merits and talents in Tales from the Borderlands. And Nick who wrote episode 1, 2 and 5 proved that he is good too.
I think the problem laid mainly at the episode length, the fast paced situation and Telltale learning how to handle two series at once.
I was so thrilled, but seeing the s2 screenshots today in playstore... I recalled the gud old days. And realising this is a stand alone and not 'that' connected to ttg's wd series, i miss clem..u know
M far more thrilled knowing that ttg may bring wd3 in 2016
me too
Not really. As I said before Telktale would have been better off spending the three episodes on their own original characters going into Season 3
Oh trust me season 3 will definitely be released in 2016 100% fact! I just hope it won't be at the end of the year or something! My biggest concern is if TTG take on too many games at once because no one will want the quality of this game to suffer like season 2 did. As long as all episodes are at least 2 hours like season 1 eps and if they include more hubs, character interaction/development then i will be happy
Yes Clemenem they should have done 3 mini episodes showing the conclusion after the end of season 2 and they lead into season 3
Telltale did multiple series prior to Walking Dead: Season 1, and was much smaller in staff size prior to the success of Walking Dead: Season 1. People overestimate the effect of multiple games at once, since Telltale went from around 60-90 people before/during Season 1 to 300+ people currently. Needless to say, Telltale has enough staff to allocate teams to multiple projects at once.
Not that I am defending long delays, but I think they are caused by Telltale responding to fan feedback or general polishing. Prior to Walking Dead: Season 1, episodes were monthly (and had 4-6 hours of gameplay), but Walking Dead: Season 1's success caused a bunch of paradigm shifts for Telltale such as deliberately shorter episodes for a more cinematic experience, prioritizing fan feedback of episodes over a punctual schedule, QTEs and shortened hub areas instead of exploration and puzzles, etc.
What some don't understand are that experiments like 90 minute episodes aren't caused by limitations from Telltale doing more than one game at once - Telltale thinks short content makes their games resemble TV/cinema in pacing, and that it's a selling point. I personally think games could be longer, but I get what they are going for.
I'm by far excited for Season 3.
I don't really care for it. I actually completely forgot about it.
Yeah the 'tight schedule' announcement clears that s3 is coming mid-'16
And yeah, ttg's '16 schedule is truly 'like tv (as stauffer tweeted..) and haptic. They'll manage
I would much rather they work more on season 3, it seems to me like the michonne series is just to get some extra money in between
Although I do believe that the three michonne episodes will be good
Personally, I do not see the trouble in bringing the comic and game a tad closer in relation. Glen and Herschel from the comic were in season 1, I even also always count Lilly as the same from wood bury and the governors troops too in spite of, because it was too obvious she was originally meant to be the same character, then they suddenly try to take it back because of Kirkman's I guess silly ideas for the character.
But the point being the comic character cameos being tied into the game story line has never been a big deal.
Even if they are completely separated surely does not mean the game is guaranteed to have that much better of a narrative. Since season 2 had absolutely no comic character references if I am not mistaken and still was undeniably worse written than season 1 which had a few comic folk cameos
I wonder if they found out sooner if Lily was a original character, how much things might have changed for the plot.
You're certainly not alone. Yes I will play the Michonne rubbish, and more than likely enjoy it.
However, it's Season Three I am after. Spin-offs are all very well, but it's the continuation of Clementine's story that many of us want. There is no way we can have the same emotional attachment, the same vested interest in a spin-off as we do with the main game. It's impossible.
So the sooner telltale get Season Three cooking, the better.
I'm not as excited as I was for Season 2. I'm about lowkey excited.
I'm doubtful of that; we already have Batman, (very likely) Game of Thrones: Season 2, and (possibly) Super Show on top of Michonne. I can't see how they would fit in Season 3, despite it being announced the earliest out of all those titles.
If you don't personally like Michonne as a character or wanted the game to focus on original characters like Season 1/2/400 Days did, that's fine, but it's really disheartening to see some comments complaining about it or ignoring it solely because it isn't Season 3, and I feel like that group of people are really taking this mini series for granted.
As of the last few years, Telltale usually tries to premiere two new full length series a year, and this year (disregarding the minor delay into Feb 2016), it's possible that Michonne took the place of a normal full length game we could have potentially had. They created Michonne because they wanted to keep Walking Dead fans occupied before Season 3, just like 400 Days was for fans during the wait for Season 2. It's like I've said before - it wasn't Michonne at the cost of Season 3 coming earlier, it was (very likely) Michonne at the cost of Telltale making a different game as they worked on Season 3 on the side. Season 3 was coming when it was ready no matter what, as they are still probably hammering out details of the story (meaning only a very small team has the game in pre-production still).
I like the Walking Dead series and am looking forward to Michonne too so this isn't me complaining or scapegoating the game's existence because "Telltale isn't making [something I like] instead of [something I don't like]" but, rather, it's quite the opposite - it bums me out to see that some of the audience the game was made for is acting disappointed. Most of the time, when a new franchise/game is announced, people complain because fans of something else are being focused on - but in this case, a small but vocal portion of fans are complaining because a special extra aimed towards them was announced because it supposedly "detracts" from them getting even more content sooner.
If you are more of a general Telltale fan like myself that doesn't mind different games, you can ignore this example below, but if you were one of those people who complained at the announcement of Minecraft: Story Mode because it wasn't mature or held the false assumption that it delayed anything related to Walking Dead, think of it like this:
Imagine if the false stereotypes were true and Telltale actually came out to say that Minecraft: Story Mode directly delayed Season 3/Michonne/etc. Then, imagine that Minecraft fans during this time complained about the game instead of appreciating it. If you are one of those people who complains about Minecraft: Story Mode because it "delayed" Walking Dead/it isn't mature, imagine how disappointed and bummed out you would feel seeing Minecraft fans complaining while ignoring the special treatment they got. (Again, this example is just for the people mad that it is "slowing down" Season 3 - not the people who wanted a story about original characters from Telltale).
Well, given the responses of the thread so far, it looks like you are definitely not the only one who isn't excited for it
Now for a more interesting question: who here actually is excited for Michonne?
When shown the trailer for the first time (awards games), I felt the disappointment of the fans. Everyone expected Clementine, even some confused and thought Michonne is Clementine older. I see people's reactions, and most of them are not satisfied, everyone wants the Season 3 with Clementine and Kenny.
Haha me :P
Lol no. Since when you speak for everyone on this forum?
Pierre Shorette who wrote EP3 and helped writing EP5 of TWD was the lead writer for Tales so no need to laugh
Eh, it happens. Not the first time the fanbase is dissapointed with Telltale's IP pick for a new game, then they prove them wrong and majority or at least half of the "haters" change their minds. Borderlands, Minecraft...It became somewhat a natural reaction for a new game announcement.
Indeed. Hype or lack thereof is meaningless. I care about the final product. Telltale has earned enough credibility from me that I'd like to see what they have coming.
Ah, but no writer can exceed in every genre.
Ever since upgrading consoles I've lost interest. Season 1 and 2 are some of my favourite games ever, but there is no Cloud save and I don't want to play through 1 and 2 again just for the sake of it. I like my original play through's because they are the choices I made without previously knowing what exactly would happen. Second play throughs don't have the same impact the first does. I pray that TT makes The Walking Dead backwards compatible for the One so I can upload my 360 saves to the cloud.
It is irritating to see people complaining that we're getting extra content, just like with 400 days, and not understanding that its not keeping us from getting the main series. But most fans do come around and Im sure they will with this one. At least, the ones open to other content that doesnt necessarily include Clementine.
omg kinda reminds me of ea.. a lil bit
to be honest yeah.. i'm not excited but... still gonna play it... since i miss playing the walking dead episodic game.... after playing life is strange tho.. hahah still i miss the telltale's game
It doesn't slow down Season 3 production. Season 3 would not have come out sooner and Michonne was made for those who are now ironically conplaining about it, to give TWD fans something to play until Season 3 arrives. 400 Days didn't slow down Season 2 either, it was just to give fans something to play while they waited.
This board has seriously become so toxic towards anything not TWD or (in this case) Season 3 related that it honestly isn't fun to come on here anymore. In 2013, they had nothing else to carry fans over the wait. Now they have tons of games coming out in 2016, and they still give TWD fans something even if it wasn't required nor expected, and these people actually have the audacity to start complaining again.
Why is this is so hard for some people to see? If it wasn't for Michonne, you would get nothing until Season 3, and Season 3 would not come out sooner. Is it honestly that hard to accept that Season 3 is on the backburner for now? Telltale is not producing TWD games only, they have their hands full with other projects in 2016.
Season 3 will very likely not release in 2016. Telltale has a busy schedule as it is, so Michonne will be the only TWD related product by Telltale next year. But guess what? It is The Walking Dead related! They give TWD fans something for the wait at the cost of something better. And yet these fans act like ungrateful kids. Just be happy you'll get anything TWD related at all in 2016. I'm already looking forward to all these people calling Telltale out in 2016 because they realize Season 3 won't come out yet, and then claim some BS like Telltale 'promising' the game for 2016 when they never said so. In fact, they even said that there won't be any news until Michonne ends/mid 2016. Season 3 is not coming oute next year, you can take the extra that this fanbase gets that serves to ease the wait, or you can keep whining. Choose wisely.
