I don't think this is on here yet, so I'm gonna do it. USELESS CHARACTERS. Every game has them, especially Telltale Games. This is for Season 2 and Season 1, and three, when it comes out. My list would be a bit like this :

  1. Brie
  2. Mark
  3. Jane
  4. Larry
  5. Mike
  6. Ben
  7. Charles
  8. Bonnie
  9. Molly

  • What about Duck?

  • Kenny: "Yeah, well what have she done for me lately?"

    Jane saved Kenny's life in the gunfight and Clem's life in the lake and shelter while Kenny was beating Arvo (and arguably in the herd in episode 4), hardly useless unless you despise Clem and Kenny haha

    Characters like Sarah and Duck and Mark are the actual useless ones.

  • IMO the only useless character is Mark. When I say useless I mean their character was pointless.

  • Maybe Nick too? Never really amounted to anything.

  • As much as I hate saying this, the only 'useless' character I found in Season 2 was Sarita.

    She merely exists to be killed and fuel Kenny's angst, a callback to how he lost his wife and son in Season 1.

  • Ah yeah, Telltale handed her dreadfully. I thought it would have been really interesting if she outlived Kenny.

  • Mark, Sarita, Brie... all 400 days characters, except Bonnie.

  • The moment I saw Sarita, I more or less said out loud "Yep, you are going to die".

  • after episode 2 I'd partly agree. Nick was definitely in the background after EP2 but they could've and should've done more with him.

  • SARAH.

    1. AJ: Only a drain on resources and provides nothing. As a plot device he provides even less to the story

    2. Kenny/Jane: Fuck the both of them tbh. I'd rather staple my ears shut than hear either of them ever bitch again

    3. Bonnie and Mike: Did more harm to the group than good. Due to the writing both of them had the personality and character of raccoon fieces

    4. Luke: In the minority here but how dumb have you got to be to run in front of a man with a loaded shotgun who's shooting at you while you're safely behind firm cover

    5. Carlos: The doctor who can't tell the difference between bites or properly medically examine a person's eye should be walker bait and serves no greater purpose

    6. Duck

    7. Ben

    8. Sarah: I am more understanding of her suffering from high anxiety and minor autism. Her panic attacks due limit her in many things

    9. Mark: Pointless character who's only purpose was to show how cruel the St. Johns were

    10. Larry

    Larry

    Don't worry bro, I took care of it

  • I wouldnt put Jane, Molly, and Larry as useless at all.

    Jane was an extremely important character in season 2, Molly was a key character in episode 4, and Larry was meant to be the groups "misbehavior" who refused to get along with the protagonist.

  • lmao @ calling Jane "useless".

  • While some characters were useless.. I still find some of them likeable.. Like Mark.

    1. Ben: Can't even do nothing properly;
    2. Sarita: She was there just to die;
    3. Alvin: Can't check the house on food for a pregnant wife;
    4. Carlos: "I'm a doctor and It's a dog bite";
    5. Sarah: She was there just to die x2;
    6. 400 days characters in S2: ...at least Sarita and Sarah dies on screen;
    7. Nick: Pointless character with pointless deaths, even his group don't give a shit about him;
    8. Rebecca: She had a potentional to be something, but from ep2 do nothing;
    9. Omid: Doesn't have much action in S1 and dies horribly in S2..wasted;
    10. AJ: Only one who has a good reason to be useless.

    I dunno, I mean Kenny does save people occasionally when he feels like it. Of course he also abuses people but yeah, overall he has caused some benefit to some people so not useless in the same way Sarah was I'd say.

  • I forgot that there were so many Kennys in this game

    I really only remember Kenny

    Lol, Kenny useless. He's one of the main characters in Season 1 and 2, if he wasn't there the games would be totally different so he isn't useless in a story sense

    10) Charles - While his advice arguably kept Clem alive, no decisions or dialogue whatsoever effected him

    9) Mark - Came with food, went as food

    8) Carley - Okay, controversial, but her only marketable skill was shooting... and being the only available female. Thank god she didn't have to find a battery for the boat in Ep4

    7) Molly - Good character, but did a U-turn after Crawford, why did she not want to get on the boat again?

    6) Nick - Made daft decisions, and wasn't really worth saving, unless you crave his extra 2 lines

    5) Sarita - Katjaa 2.0, literally, I half expected Kenny to have a new kid aswell. Her death was her only impact.

    4) Shawn - Nice guy, dead quickly. How he didn't see or hear the walkers coming I don't know...

    3) 400 Days Characters - Minus Bonnie, they were missable cameos, for all the hype, Lee had more screen time in S2

    2) Glenn - Sorry guys, but he was just a shout-out to the comics. Nothing you did/said effected him

    1. 1) Brie - What use? She was bitchy and then died
  • Lol why do their eyes looks so realistic.

  • When I think of useless characters, I think of pointless characters that felt like death fodder, that served no real purpose to the plot otherwise. Characters like Ben might seem useless on the outside, but at the same time, Ben is the catalyst for the back-half of the first season even happening, so in that sense, he's one of the game's most important characters. Chuck might not do a huge amount for the group, but he's incredibly important to Clementine in particular, as he's the one that convinces Lee to teach Clementine the survival skills she needs. In that sense, he's one of primary reasons for Clementine's extended survival (alongside Lee and Christa), and thus, quite valuable.

    Bottom line being, I don't feel like characters like Ben, Chuck or Mark really count as useless. They might be useless in that we don't see them do all that much, but they are still valuable to the story itself. They also benefit from being rather fleshed out as characters, enough to stand on their own merit. Most people would probably put Mark on a list like this, but I feel that he was enough of a character on his own that he gets a free pass. Ben and Chuck do as well, mainly for the reasons above.

    Sarita - Literal background prop. Serves to further Kenny's character, sure, but at the same time, that could have been accomplished without her. Having him being alone at the lodge with Walt and Matthew, and then beaten to near death by Carver would be enough motivation for the guy to go ballistic. They could have played Kenny's instability without her, since all the pieces that contribute to his instability are already there.

    Nick (episode 3 +) - Literal background prop after episode 2 (he was utilized quite well in the first two episodes, and is still one of my favorite characters from the series, don't get me wrong, but the game practically forgets he exists in episodes 3 and 4)

    Reggie - Why

    Brie - She's the winner of the 'be a character in the game' contest, but there's no real point to her other than that, besides being a casualty during the Crawford mission.

    AJ - This answer is obvious. I mean, he's a baby for christ's sake, of course he's not going to be doing much, outside of being a kind of macguffin for the characters, or just being a general plot device.

    Mike - I honestly liked Mike. But let's be honest, this guy is just sort of there. He's this additional character for the back-half of the season, but really, who is this guy? In comparison to all the other characters (Kenny, Luke, Jane, Bonnie), he's easily the most expendable and forgettable of them. He almost feels like he's there for the sake of having an extra group member.

    Sarah - It's a shame to have to put her here. The reason I'd put her here is for the simple fact that there's no pay-off of any sort to her character. I'm not asking that she suddenly becomes a badass and kills everything, but rewarding the player in some way before she dies an unceremonious death, especially since you can choose to be her friend and support her for the entire season, only for nothing of any sort to come from it. It really undervalues the point of supporting her in the first place, and it isn't helped that almost every other character that was around is also dead, meaning there's no long-term effect from helping her either, since no one's around to make mention of it or anything. Also, unlike Ben, a character she bears quite a few similarities with, she didn't have any effect on the progression of the story.

    Tavia (S2) - She shows up in Carver's camp, but what purpose does she even serve. The 400 Days characters might just be cameos, but at least they weren't made out to be anything more than that. Tavia's almost treated like she's a centric character for episode 3, but she does nothing memorable at all. Troy, Carver, even that goddamn guard Alvin can kill felt more important than Tavia did.

    Joyce - That one cancer patient. I know that all of them outside of Vernon are meant to be background characters, but she barely gets any lines or personality to her. Boyd and Clive, background characters just like her, still feel like characters, especially after their brief appearances in Shel's story. Joyce on the other hand, is the black sheep of the group.

    Winston - Sure, the guy has his infamous line, and fight with him is cool, but outside of the chase sequence, this guy didn't play into anything. Michelle, the girl that tries to rob you at the beginning of the episode, also doesn't play a huge role, but she kills Omid, which stems from Clementine leaving her gun unattended, so she still plays into the story at hand, and into the development of Clementine's character to a degree.

    Going off some of the characters who I don't think were useless on your list:

    Mark - Wasn't useless, he was basically food for the St. John's. He was still useful to someone.

    Jane - um what

    Larry - um what

    Mike - um what

    Charles - Charles had to be the most impacting and useful character in the entire game. Without him, Lee wouldn't have taught Clementine how to protect herself, he wouldn't have cut her hair, and they wouldn't have figured out what the pair were going to do had they reached Savannah.

    Bonnie - r u srs ffs

    Molly - bwHAT

    Sarah - She gave Clementine peroxide for her arm, without that, it would have gotten infected.

  • Came with food, went as food

    10) Charles - While his advice arguably kept Clem alive, no decisions or dialogue whatsoever effected him 9) Mark - Came with food, went
