Jane saved Kenny's life in the gunfight and Clem's life in the lake and shelter while Kenny was beating Arvo (and arguably in the herd in ep… moreisode 4), hardly useless unless you despise Clem and Kenny haha
Characters like Sarah and Duck and Mark are the actual useless ones.
There was no reason for Kenny to be a big point of season 2 either. In fact there's no direct 'reason' for most of the characters being there - this is the nature of writing a survival story, people just 'are' there.
Jane is useless not because she isn't important to the story, but because her role should have been Molly's. Like, they are literally the same person.
Same personality: Rough person who has trouble integrating in a group, tries to come around but ultimately fails. Jane is a bit more extreme, but it would have worked if Telltale had given the role to Molly and explained it by Molly being alone so long and seeing a lot more shit.
Both lost a sister and blame themselves for her death. Also, both went through many hardships to protect their sisters, but failed in the end.
They both don't like Kenny from the get go. The same scenario could have happened with Molly vs Kenny.
Even their appereances and way of fighting are similar/the same.
Jane is basically Molly by the time Season 2 takes place. I have no idea why Telltale didn't just use Molly instead. Maybe it was because they thought it would be unrealistic to bring more than one Season 1 character back? I don't know, all I know is that it was a bad decision and that this makes Jane kind of pointless.
And Brie wasn't meant to effect the story. She was a contest winner who got her likeness in the game. They offered four zombie likenesses and one human character to people who preordered it on PC. The zombies were the one at the door after the showdown with the stranger, the one on the street to the hotel who turns around out of nowhere and I forget the other two.
Actually no, Clementine can ask Alvin to get all the supplies she needs plus he gives her a juice box or Clementine can sneak inside the Cabin to get the medical supplies she needs.

Their personalities are very different, Molly chooses not to be in groups because of what Crawford did to her sister but ultimately she leaves the group with the implication of not wanting to be the reason someone doesn't get a spot on the boat, Jane chooses not to be in groups because she thinks they never work and are just plain trouble, which in Clementine's case she's right. Molly doesn't come around to groups and ultimately fails, she chooses to be apart of the group because she wants something in return for saving Lee, a spot on the boat whilst Jane comes around to groups and doesn't fail either, the group falls apart due to disagreements surrounding Kenny and Arvo. I disagree, Molly has been alone for a long time already by the time the group make it to Savannah, any longer I think she'd be more secluded and less 'extreme'.
Molly had sex with Doctor Walter to get medicine for her sister who was Diabetic, Jane dragged Jaime across 4 States since the beginning of the Apocalypse when her sister was possibly in Depression and didn't want to live, technically Jane went through more hardships as she had to survive whilst fully taking care of Jaime in 4 different States, even carrying or dragging her at times, travelling and the dangers of the outside world are things Molly didn't have to struggle with as much as Jane as she was apart of Crawford. Also we're not entirely sure if they died, at least not Jaime, Molly says her sister died which is why she left Crawford but Jane never says she saw Jaime died, only that she left Jaime on the roof so she could have what she wanted, Jaime has more of a chance of being alive because even Jane didn't confirm her sister's death.
Molly didn't like Kenny from the start because he tried to attack her, Jane had no qualms with Kenny until she saw the way he treated Arvo.
Not really at all, they both appear being mysterious but Molly was more stealthy with her introduction, Jane was more isolated in the community in hers. Molly fights with an axe named Hilda which gets stuck at times and her fighting style is less tactical, Jane's weapon is a screwdriver or gun, although she mostly uses the screwdriver which is more efficient and Jane fights in a more tactical way as she sometimes uses the knee trick.
Jane is not Molly, she only holds similarities to Molly but they're very different especially in terms of personality and ideals. What's unrealistic is that Kenny is back, Molly would've been more realistic but they already confirmed she's not coming back. I think it was a good decision because Molly's character only poses similarities to Jane's but it's shown that they are very different individuals, I think it was a good idea to bring in a new character instead of creating a rivalry between Season 1 characters with unexplained appearances, plus Molly's character would've changed quite a bit if she were to take Jane's role, Jane isn't pointless, at least her appearance made Season 2 characters feel less overshadowed after Kenny's appearance.

Just because they're the survival type, loners, both lost a sister, and so happen to dislike Kenny (which is debatable), doesn't mean they're the same character. And why would you even bring back Molly in the same Season (and an episode after) you'd bring back Kenny?

Jane: Idiot from the start. Rather have sex then help a pregnant woman. Lies and gets herself or Kenny or both killed. Takes off and expects to be accepted like nothing happened.
Christa/Omid: Probably the worst characters in the game. No purpose. Omid trying to be a class clown, and Christa being all serious and trying to tell others what to do.
Doug: If you save Doug, you can't tell anyone about your past. He pretty much is only at the end of a new day, then is killed off in long road ahead.
Chuck: Not bad, but annoyed. Chuck had a lot of potential, but they just made him have one important dialogue with Lee, then was thrown away like trash. Opportunity missed.
400 days Characters : All that time waiting for them and that they will be important in season 2, only to be cameos. Lame.
Andre Mitchell : Seriously? A local cop who helps save some people and we never hear from him again.
Shawn: Comics again, and that you can't save him and that's the last you see of Hershel's farm.
Glenn: Obvious attempt at the comics, no other purpose.
Tess: Walker head in the bag failing at trying to be scary.
Beatrice : She was only a random woman who was attacked by walkers that desecrated them from Kenny and Lee.
chuck: introduced end of ep 3, died beggining of 4, forgot about him
molly:i know she's popular but i really didn't see the point in her, the story would of been just fine without her
400 days: apart from bonnie, the others were just...there, which made the dlc seem pointless
pete:died way too soon

Personally I think each character had a decent use in the series so far
Even Sarita?
What do you mean Sarah helps Clem find medicine determinantly? She does that no matter what
Yes, Jane is useless. There was no reason for her to be a big point of Season 2.
No. She saved you girl's llife.
I think he meant them being useless to the story.
she's not

I still fail to see how she is useless.

She is not what?
If you mean useless in the sense that they weren't effective survivors, maybe.
If you mean useless to the story: Wut?

Sarita did help the group escape even if her role was very minimal, plus she did also help in taking care of Rebecca at Howe's.
No, Clem gets peroxide from Sarah no matter what
Oh yeah, sorry I forgot Alvin only gets the Bandages.
I completely disagree.

You put Mark instead of Mike :P
They really aren't the same person.
Jane follows a mindset similar to Crawford.
Molly was against everything Crawford stood for.
