2 year Anniversary of All That Remains

edited December 2015 in The Walking Dead

It's been 2 years since season 2 started. Let's go back all the way to December 2013, what were you excited about this season? What did you like about All That Remains? Which episode were you most excited for? Let's also take a moment and remember those we lost...

  1. Omid (funniest character, too bad he was killed off so early)
  2. Christa (her fate isn't known, but we don't see her AT ALL after this episode, I hope she's okay)
  3. Winston "Jesus are you fucking kidding me!"
  4. Sam (too bad he couldn't be our little companion)
  5. Pete (one of my favorite characters this season)

  • Oh, the innocent days...

I was just excited in general. The Winston chase was fun as hell and sucked me in immediately. The entire concept of Clementine being alone in the unforgiving wilderness was a new and interesting direction. Thought Omid's death was pretty bullshit even then, but was able to live with it since I believed it would be in service to the story somehow... lolz. I remember all the focus on Winston, but that I liked Ralph the best out of that trio because he looked cool, had a badass line, and the fact that he was voiced by the composer. Speaking of which, one thing that has never changed is that season 2 has an utterly fantastic soundtrack. It's the one thing it did better than season 1, which was great itself. I was also really excited about this whole "Carver" business. The brief mentions of him and the creepy atmosphere surrounding the river of death was very well done, and it was no doubt a prelude to some fantastic stuff coming up... lolz.

I also remember looking at the title screens of the episodes and being so pumped for the uber-dark and creepy looking Amid the Ruins episode... LOLZ.

Finally, I remember how people were already calling out some problems with the storytelling back then, and how I was one of the episode's more vehement defenders at the time... lolz. I maintain that it did a lot of stuff right to this day, though. The story definitely isn't without flaw, but it was a good opener and had great setup and emotion. I was so sure it would stay that way. Oh, the innocent days...

  • I'll be honest, when ATR came out, I was severely disappointed with it. I didn't felt as attached as I did with the first season, and I found that the game felt "weird". I dunno how to explain it, it was like it wasn't the same as before. Besides, at that time, I was suffering from some personal issues (anxiety, some sort of depression, etc) and I had problems enjoying the stuff I liked, so that didn't help either. With time, I've learned to love Season 2 as well, and while it's not as great as S1, now I personally love it too on it's own way, and how it brought things that S1 lacked.

Now my only complaint is.... WHY DIDN'T IT HAVE A PLATINUM TROPHY?! Just kidding.

  • Damn, this made me sad. I remember when All That Remains was released, and everyone was hyped for Amid The Ruins. I also agree with you about the whole Clem being alone in the woods concept. I miss those days.

2 years? I've loved Luke for 2 years!?

Oh my God, don't kill me like that.

  • I can't believe it either...

2 years? I've loved Luke for 2 years!? Oh my God, don't kill me like that.

  • The only episode aside from the finale of Season 1 that I ever played blind. I remember going into it excited as anything and just noticing the improvements from the last game graphic/music/animation/cinematography. From the trailer, I knew something was going to happen to Christa and Omid for Clementine to be on her own, but when Omid died, still remember gasping in shock when that gun went off, and then Christa shooting the kid.

I loved how it cut to present day and for the very first time we got to both see and hear Clementine older [because for the voice part, the trailers hadn't let us hear her.] The quick-time event with the bandit who said 'Jesus are you fucking kidding me' twice was the most intense thing with that music! And given how the quick-time events were in the last game, experiencing that for the first time it was just great.

Then the poor dog, and meeting the cabin group for the first time; I still remember my funny first impressions of them pretty well. But that arm scene, I had no idea Clementine was about to sew her arm up until she put all the items down, and it was so much to torture to watch, and so badass! That's what I really enjoyed, Clem was took down the walkers but it wasn't over the top. It would take a few hits to finally take them out, combined with her tactics of dodging and weaving, it really added a different playing tactic than previously with Lee, such as using the fact you are child to convinced Alvin to help you. One of my favorite sequences was breaking into the cabin to sneak around for supplies, and I was really excited to see if the game would create more scenarios like it.

But for my favorite emotional scenes, it's always going to be the scene at the table where Clementine talks about her past, losing her parents and Lee. The moment where my final choice from Season 1 as Lee come up again in Clem as she said 'he's the reason I keep my hair short' with a smile on her face, just...it was great. Yeah, that was a really good episode, so good.

    ...

    What happened?

  • They rushed it. I mean, All That Remains and A House Divided (which I'm indifferent about), are the best episodes this season. I remember it took 3 months for A House Divided to be released. They took their sweet time for it. I wish they did that with the other episodes aswell...

  • I'm indifferent towards A House Divided. The wind turbine scene in general, Alvin telling you to look for food for HIS pregnant wife, Luke ONLY bringing Clementine with him when he could've brought Carlos or Alvin with him aswell, everyone liking you all of a sudden no matter what you did in episode 1. It wasn't bad, but compared to the remaining three episodes, it doesn't have much competition.

Yup, also Nick doesn't apparently suck at shooting anymore in Episode 2.

....Also this is completely random but I just found it so I thought I'd share it lol

At 0:59 Bonnie shoots a rifle in the middle of the horde and doesn't get mauled to death instantly... and earlier they are talking about whispering and stuff... Clem even has the option to tell Sarah to shut up while Bonnie is just spraying bullets everywhere XD

2 years has gone quick, i still remember the excitement i felt while waiting for the episode and all the others to release.

I enjoyed episode 1 and entire season and i am looking forward to seeing what the Michonne mini series and season 3 have in store for us.

  • I wasn't as excited as i was when i first started playing season one. I got that attached to season one's characters that i didn't feel the same spark as i did with season one. Season one between episodes, i would think about it almost every day. What was going to happen next, where's the plot going? With Season two, i was more interested in if Kenny was coming back too be honest.

  • Rest in Peace almost every character introduced in Season 2 ;-;

  • I was interested to see who would return. When I found out it was Kenny, I got excited. Up until Amid The Ruins of course.

Happy late 2nd Birthday, All That Remains! Oh the memories of waiting at an internet cafe for the episode to finish downloading, so that I could rush home and play the hell out of it. A great episode overall!

  • Correct, I was actually curious to see what explanation they would give for Kenny surviving the herd of walkers. I was let down when they just used the whole "I got lucky" quote. They couldve said there was a window or something.

  • I think amid the ruins could've been a good episode, had they not made poor decisions, obvious being Nick's death and Sarah virtually meaning nothing when she was given a lot of time and effort. I was hoping Sam would've been like a companion for Clementine. When we first saw him i thought "Wow, a dog, could be something fresh, a dog friend for Clementine". But that was just to make people sad by having him go mad and being killed. Carver is another one that i feel they should've had towards the end of the season, not in the middle. Ruined a good character by killing him off so soon. And the 400 days characters.... no need to go into that one.

  • 2 years old already.... holy crap time is flying by.

  • I kind of hoped for a flashback of some sort. Or better yet, a "Kenny DLC" about how he escaped, but that's not gonna happen.

  • That would've been cool. Too be honest, i'd rather have Kenny and Ben being with Lee before the marsh house and having Christa and Omid.

  • Already? Wow

  • I mean, I didn't hate it like others on here do. But damn, how did they manage to screw an episode up THAT badly? They seriously couldn't take the time to write proper deaths for determinate characters? The should've taken more time with it like they did with A House Divided.

  • That long? It felt like it was yesterday

  • Lol true man, i thought "Wow, So we have 4 people with us, and the 2 who we've been with the most and have just saved one (Ben) from dying, get killed and go missing, and 2 that are left, have been in only one episode and one tries to be a class clown (Omid) and the other one is some whiny pregnant chick who tries to tell everyone what to do(Christa)".

  • I understand Nick was a determinant character, and they rarely last long after they get that status, but Nick last an entire episode after he had his determinant death. And he was rarely even seen in the 3rd episode and then just off screen death in amid the ruins, just lousy writing. When Ben had his death in episode 4 of season one, they gave him a really good death scene in episode 5. That's why i said, they cared more about season one because they weren't working on multiple games at once like they were with season 2.
