I never thought Luke as problematic. He never really had any flaws and the only time he did fuck up was when he had sex with Jane (feel free to correct me on that, I haven’t played the game in ages). Let alone he was my favourite.
As for Kenny, although I can't say I hate him, I can't say I like him either.
Luke, because he is a cinnamon roll and has been like a big brother to Clementine and it's about time Kenny died, he is old and has been through a lot it would make sense his journey ends here. I said I would come back for Luke, and I would save Luke over all other characters.

Who was the more entertaining character, had the charisma and badassery that you need to drive these games foward, was just generally more interesting and brought more to the game? Kenny easily. For those reasons i'd save Kenny. Luke was gone and had been dethroned by Jane as a serious rival to Kenny before it even got to that point though.
Would Luke have gone through with the whole 'hiding the baby and pretending it's dead' thing?
If he did, Kenny all the way, because Luke just did something completely out of character and ruined my belief that he's a good, honest guy
If it was done a different way, still Kenny, reluctantly, he's a hardened survivor with a tough edge (but not a bad guy) , they tend to last longer than the moralistic people and make more sensible decisions

I dont know if his age was ever confirmed but he struck me as being around Lee's age or a few years older.
