I meant that they could pull something out of the hat, they may well surprise us and come up with something completely different. Anyway I guess we will find out,
It's not really a good example. Minecraft didn't have story mode in the game, thus it was actually original. However like I said, Batman's story has been told several times over. I would hope telltale would focus more on the walking dead series.
I have no solid knowledge about the Arkham Series, but do they really explore Batman's character there? And from what I know of the show that you mention, it isn't all about Batman.
From what Telltale wrote during their announcement, it say that the game will explore the duality of Bruce Wayne's dual identity as himself and Batman. From there, we can assume that it might focus more on Bruce Wayne rather than just Batman doing his crime fighting.
I'm not really sure if I am going to be interested in the Batman telltale game. We already have had a Batman game (Arkham Knight) and Batman… more TV show (Gotham). Like what else can telltale really do with Batman that we have not already seen? Obviously with 'The Walking Dead' we have seen different characters outside of the actual TV show/comic-books.
I posted a series of riddles which contained answers that had suggestions for the Batman game back in February. Here is a rehash of my complete answer key with all my complete suggestions for Telltale's upcoming Batman Game.
My suggestions for this game include:
REDHERRING - false clues that could through your investigation off as the world's greatest detective.
JUSTICE LEAGUE - basically two ways to go about this (1) feature one or several members that show up for help from Batman or that he gets help from (2) tie something from this story to a much larger world where good and evil are fighting. (Maybe this could lead you guys at Telltale to do your own DC Universe where you introduce us to JLA forming? And this game could tie into or build into that.)
BAT-FAMILY - please develop and include these key characters of Bruce/Batman's surrogate family:
Alfred Pennyworth (surrogate father)
James "Jim" Gordon (Batman's first rival and eventually parnter in crime fighting; surrogate brother)
Dick Grayson/Jason Todd/Tim Drake (surrogate sons of Bruce Wayne [he officially adopts Tim in one comic story line] and proteges to Batman)
Barbara Gordon/Batgirl/ Oracle (surrogate niece to Bruce/Batman and also a protege who actually had potential to surpass Batman in computer, forensics, and detective work -- then Joker shot her in The Killing Joke.)
Selina Kyle (sometimes potential love of Bruce/Batman and sometimes potential enemy--various stories paint her as one or the other in different comics stories and even in the various films. My favorite stories with her are in film are both the Tim Burton Batman Returns and Dark Knight Rises. I particularly liked the Batman Hush story with her in the comics. I really thought it would have had them together at the end but Bruce ends it believing it was due to Poison Ivy's Pharomones!)
There are extended members of the Bat-Family like Huntress and Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. However I leave that to you guys at Telltale if you want to go that far with it. The nuclear Bat-Family should include most of characters mentioned above...because Batman creates a surrogate family that stands with him in his battle for Gotham.
And of course my other suggestion.....My name is Mr. Reese on here say that out loud right now. Now say "Mysteries" and then say "Mr. Reese." Christopher and Johnathan Nolan developed many creative tid bits to reference Batman villians in their films. In The Dark Knight a man by that name discovers Bruce Wayne is Batman, no one believes him though. His character is believed to be a refrence to the Riddler. In the Hush storyline Riddler does figure out Bruce Wayne is Batman and trades that knowledge to Hush if he could find a cure for his cancer (one of Ras Al Gahl's Lazarous pits). Please put the Riddler in this game. I know puzzle solving adversary for a point & click adventure about detective work would make for a good game, even if it is only featured in one episode.
I'm expecting to have some sort of fling with Catwoman hopefully, get chased by some cops and probably even Gordon, and to fail at my duties to protect Harvey Dent from getting his face horribly burned.
I am expecting Batman to show his detective skills, after all, he is The Greatest Detective In The World. I am expecting him to show why many people consider him the best martial artist in the entire DC Universe, with cool fighting scenes that flow well as in the comics (considering TTG style and all). I want him to show his Bruce Wayne side, the man that helps Gotham by daylight, his "politician" side. Finally, I want this to be a solo adventure from his early years as The Dark Knight of Gotham, let TTG show us how they imagine this adaptation that Bruce Wayne had to plan for his life, let it be gothic of course, dark and all.
I fully agree, there needs to be elements which are shocking. Also I would like to be immersed in a Batman Game and not pull-in other Superhero's like Superman. I'm sure a lot of people would agree that the last movie Batman Vs Superman was very disappointing.
Also if the death scene of Bruce's Parents is to make it into the game I think it is very important that no new elements are added to his past. If you look at all the different batman movies half of them re do this key moment in Bruce's Life and they change it every time.
Another aspect to consider is how tied to reality Vs how fictional the world is. Nolan Batman or Warner Animation Batman. I think that fantasy can be done very well but the underlying human story needs to still be tied to something we fear in the real world, like kidnapping, drug crime, serial killers and deranged lunatics as opposed to super satellites, government conspiracies and super weapons.
Finally I think that the action elements need to be controlled, batman is a great detective and has technology as his main ally. If you think back to the some elements that could easily make their way (and should not) into this game compared to other telltale games is pressing 'w','a', 's' or 'd' when you are meant to or pressing 'q' repeatedly. The satisfaction should be purely from the story and not tie in many action scenes and try to get the player involved every now and again.
Something original. It's a challenge to show Batman in other light. I'd like it to be dark, noir, grim; "The Killing Joke", "The Dark Knight… more Returns" or first Burton's film - fine examples. No robin, catwoman, batwoman, batdog - PLEASE NO! I'm expecting a detective game, better than TWAU. Smarter intrigue. Dear writers, read few good criminal books! Plan, everything must be ready before premiere, do not think about the final after third or fourth part.

Mark Hamill as the joker.
The second one is feet?
Nevermind
That it would be a game.
