Critics do seem to be overly harsh on this game for some reason. I can honestly say that GOT is easily my favourite telltale series. Favourite series in general really.
I think some people are way too harsh on this game. I love it and I am definitely looking forward to Season 2, more than I am with Walking Dead Season 3.
Nothing should be exempt from critique. That's how improvement happens. However critics and reviewer's are often just unpleasant and not picky with their issues
I'm a new-comer to Telltale, having only just played and completed all their games this year. Game of Thrones is by far favorite, though, followed by The Walking Dead.
Game of Thrones just gripped me in a way no-other game (especially Borderlands, I never got into that, really, and was shocked to discover it was everyone's favorite) did. I connected to the characters, cared about what happened to them, and the choices I found the most difficult and compelling of all the games. (For example, as much as I loved the Wolf Among Us, it didn't really have any difficult decisions) but in Got, choosing between Duncan and Royland, Rodrik and Asher, choosing whether to execute the traitor, or to marry Morgryn, so difficult. And it makes differences, even though for some reason, everyone says it doesn't.
TL;DR From an outsider's perspective who played them all recently without bias, Game of Thrones is, in my opinion, the strongest title. And it shocks me people feel otherwise... and it annoys me when they use faulty reasoning to back it up ."GOT SUCKS IT HAZ SAME ENDING," except it has like 12 variations... even though Borderlands has just 1. Not that anyone minds, because it's Borderlands, it's beyond critique.
So yes, Game of Thrones is unfairly underrated by both fans and critics I think.
No, it deserves an individual opinion, just like anything other video games or TV shows ETC. I say this because the critique seems to be things that people didn't personally enjoy but othes might.
Yes, this game most definitely deserves the critique by individual players and I'm here to throw mine into the ring.
I love Telltale games, have since The Walking Dead Season 1. I've played several of them and I love almost everything about them. (let's be fair, there's always something someone won't like) But in all honesty, I am hurt by this Game of Thrones game. Never in all my life have I seen anything so monstrously unbalanced and unfair against the player. It is glaringly obvious that they WANT us to suffer with this story. I can't believe this actually made the cut. To be fair, I haven't seen the TV series and if I had, I may have known to expect this since by all accounts, the series is a lot like this. Bad guys win, good guys lose. It seems to me that until G.O.T. Season Two comes out, hopefully with the real opportunity to be victorious, there is no possibility to win or at the very least break even in this game. I find that utterly repellent.
Having said that, the story was amazing and I applaud the writers who came up with it. I felt truly invested with each and every character I played. I was saddened when Gared was sent to the Wall for doing the right thing. I was shocked when Ethan was murdered. I was heartbroken when Mira was executed. I was outraged at the end when everyone and everything, every ally, every friend, every enemy, painted each character as a fiend just to save their own ass. It was an utterly true example of "History is written by the victor" and I was both positively and negatively impressed to the extreme. I look forward with great anticipation and trepidation to the second season and to seeing the show itself someday.
If there was any one fault I would point out, any one truly bad piece of creation in this game, it would be the codex. If you've watched the series, maybe you didn't need it. Maybe you already knew everything you needed to about the world and the important people in it. But for those of us who didn't see the series prior to playing the game, the codex was almost a waste of time reading, it was so incomplete. Yes, it was nice to have a little background on the Forresters, but who is Ramsey Snow? Who is Jon Snow? Frostfinger, Beshka, the Lannisters, Lady Maergery, the Whitehills, the Freys, the Boltons? What's their history? Why is the North Grove so important? How was the Wall raised and what is it's story and that of the Night Watch? Why do we hate the Wildlings? There were so many gaps in so much of the world and its people and places that I spent as much time wondering "Who are these people? What is their problem? Why is this place important?" as I did actually playing the game. If you're going to go to the time and trouble of making a codex, please make it complete. In a game where the story is the whole point, not quests and sidequests and combat, it is necessary to understand the world and the people in it. So take pity on those of us who haven't seen the series and fill up that codex!
Finally, I just want to say again that this was an utterly amazing game. I may not have picked it up if I had known what I was getting myself into, but I am glad I did and I eagerly await the second season.
I actually wanted the codex to have more characters too so that I know their background.
I think the main problem with the game was that it wasn't beta tested properly. It was so glitchy that it ruined the experience. The two Walking Dead seasons were great but I am scarred off buying the Michonne season.
I have to agree. There were way too many glitches to ignore. Someone definitely dropped the programming ball on that one.
There are a lot of issues...mostly dealing with the engine itself to be honest.
Though, I think episode 1-3 was solid.
I said 1-3 was solid but really it started getting honestly kinda boring in ep 3 but then picked back up. Episode 4 bought on more intriruge with the whole traitor thing. I think Ep5 whole traitor set up and reveal thing just really felt empty. Plus, it would make zero sense for either of them to be the traitor and there is literally little to no set up. I mean all of a sudden boom one of them is the traitor and now you gotta kill him or spare him. Plus, the reason given just didn't make sense and just omg TTG idk what happened there but when that scene happen a lot of people lost hope in GoT lol. Episode 6 restored some hope but it really just felt like S1 was just a huge build up for S2. Which will determine for me if GoT is even worth my money.
I say it is a must play.
Its good but make your own judgments. I love it to death but people need to back off a little.
The internet was the worst thing to happen to video games and TV shows. Every idiot with a keyboard thinks they have a worthwhile opinion. Critique is good when warranted but too many people go on about "what should have happened" here and there, and some over-analyze small things to try and form plotholes. I have a simple solution to things I don't like. Don't use it. I enjoyed this, personally. It made me a fan of the show, although Skyrim probably gets the initial nudge for making me mostly familiar with this whole medieval period.
