Would following through on the 5 endings be unprecedented?
I'm not a huge gamer so I'm not sure on this topic, but after spending the last week reading this whole forum (and I mean all 900+ pages) I have found that everyone believes that when a character becomes determinant, they are a dead man walking. At the end of Season 2 we got 5 endings, but would Telltale keeping those 5 endings canon be unprecedented in gaming? Is it possible that they can make it work? When you think about it, there are only 3 endings that would need to be kept with. Both endings with Jane can be kept with a little tinkering, and with Edith saying to check back in a few months means that Kenny can still make it into Wellington, meaning whether you leave or stay with Kenny could see him make it into Wellington after a time lapse anyway. And going solo is simple. So 3 endings in essence, to expand season 3 off.
Telltale releasing the Michonne mini-series smacks of being a stalling tactic to keep fans happy, it seems like they are trying to give themselves more time to make good on those 3 separate endings going into season 3. Unless they completely abandon Clementine's arc I just cannot see them giving Kenny an off-screen death. I know they've done that but not with someone so integral to the game as Kenny is. He is second only to Clementine in screen time and is arguably a more important character than Lee was because of this. I just don't see them letting Kenny hang like that if you chose to save him.
I'm probably just in denial, and they would have to kill Kenny and Jane off at some point in Season 3 before they lost control over it all, but I think with time and patience they could work something out if they chose to...?

If they are to continue with choices made in S2 then they will do whatever with Jane/Kenny. No way to know atm if they will survive etc.. But after saving Kenny (in my case) and seeing what we'd been through together i'll be disappointed if he's just not there at the start of Season 3. (If Clem arc is continued).
All we know about Season 3 is that it's going to be big. Which means any number of things.
And I don't believe Michonne Mini Series is a stalling tactic. Telltale are genuinely excited to be making a story around an iconic twd comic character thats a direct link to them. And i'm excited to play. I enjoyed the first episode.
Actually, there are seven endings. You can
kill Kenny and stay with Jane, then let the family in
kill Kenny and stay with Jane, not letting the family in
kill Kenny and leave Jane. You're alone, but Jane is alive
let Kenny kill Jane and stay with Kenny, then stay at Wellington
let Kenny kill Jane and leave with him
let Kenny kill Jane and leave him. You're alone, but Kenny is alive
let Kenny kill Jane and then kill Kenny. Both Kenny and Jane are dead.
This means that there are three different stories where Clem is alone. Either Kenny or Jane are still out there, or they're not. This might just be causing dialogue changes, but if we meet the survivor again, or not, then that means that there are seven different endings.
About determinant characters, back in the day of TWD a determinant status was basically a death sentence. Sooner or later, you would die anyway. But Telltale has done a better job with their more recent games. In both Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones your choices matter a lot more, at least the games do a better job of covering it up if a choice has no meaning in the long run. I highly recommend both of those games to get a better idea of what Telltale might have in store for Season 3. It's too early to say where they're going with Michonne yet, but for Season 3, we'll likely see our endings matter.
Oh wow, I didn't know it was possible to leave Kenny behind if you saved him. Thanks for that heads up!
How did we get the info that Season 3 is going to be big? If that's official from Telltale themselves then I can see that possibly meaning we may well get each choice taking us in a different direction maybe? I really hope they allow this. I would be willing to wait for as long as it took them. I really can't deal with the possibility of Kenny being offed in a small cut scene at the start of S3, that would be so harsh after what I've endured with him.
I haven't played those two games, was intrigued by TFTB but GOT has never interested me, not even the TV show. I have played The Wolf Among Us though, at the end of episode 3 currently.
they could always do what they did with a house divided. have 3 separate openings for the first episodes.
Yes, the info about Season 3 is directly from Telltale. I see them taking their time as a good sign.
maybe one day they will give us enough save slots to save all the endings. suddenly my 1tb hard drive can only house three slots? that most of all tells you how little the choices you make matter.
I doubt they will follow up on it, past a unique scene or two at the season's start. Tops? Very unlikely they'll do an entire episode based on the ending choice of season 2, before the threads join back up. But I'd like to be proven wrong.
I do, however, find myself wondering if people will still complain about choices if they manage it. (Or even the length, considering branching episodes offer more replayability and that replayability often comes with the sacrifice of run-time).
7 DIFFERENT endings leads me to believe that season 2, episode 5 was the conclusion of Clementine's story. Unless they pull off some voodo magic, they might be making 2 different games for season 3.
Or they could just follow Christa after she separated from Clementine.
Or they might cheat and make the place you stayed at, whether it's Howe or Wellington, be overrun by walkers or something to tie all 7 different endings to one location.
oh now your being petty. tellale's games always had limited save slots it's a design choice.
like i said. the most likely case will be like a house divided. have an original opening for all three endings and then it goes back on track after wards.
why would you have more outcomes then save slots if they really led to different paths? what does the save slots have to do with the design? the point of the game is that choices matter but the limited number of save slots belies that.
Is it terrible of me to say that I don't really care about the endings? I'm actually more scared about how much from those endings will be carried over into Season 3, because I just simply didn't enjoy them or the finale all that much. I worry about Season 3 possibly starting straight off from one of the things I heavily disliked about Season 2's finale, and it really was the Jane Kenny choice by the end.
The whole determinant thing with them as well I didn't like at all much, because even if they pull a Game of Thrones where perhaps Jane and Kenny stick around for a few episodes or manage to survive throughout the course of the season, the fact of it is whether Jane or Kenny die or not, they are no longer important to game. Telltale are now limited by what they can do with those said characters as they often are with determinant characters, and as more so in this case given there will be outcomes where Clementine is on her own with A.J, meaning Season 3's plot will function without Jane or Kenny even there.
The so called 'major decision' resulting in some of the supposedly important characters of that season becoming unimportant by having determinant stamped on them, that's an aspect that worries the hell out of me when thinking about the next game. I really want to give the Season 3 a chance, but if it starts off from those endings and it goes on and on, I'm afraid of not being invested and switching off solely because of that, and because of not wanting to be reminded the finale of the previous season. I'm not joking, that entire fight sequence between Jane and Kenny with the plot twist, it ticked me off that I still get mad thinking about it, and that's even mentioning the determinant poop with the forced fighting thrown on in there.
Heck, I'm still annoyed they killed off so many characters that even Jane and Kenny are determinant and they shouldn't be! The game should have more of a live cast behind it right now! No wonder those poor people have been taking so long with Season 3, there's barely anybody left alive to give a damn about or to work a plot around other than Clementine and the animatronic baby.
It would be interesting to see alternative introductions to the third season. Similar to A House Divided or Smoking Mirrors even though it seems the majority of the fanbase dislikes those types of things for whatever reason
Although it's an unpopular opinion I'll say it again: I still would like to see a new protagonist in Season 3 who's story would intertwine with Clementine's in Episode 2 or 3! That way it'd feel fresh, but also might have less of a work toll on the Telltale crew.
What's the third opening? I got leaving Pete and going with Nick and going with Pete and abandoning Nick. What was the third one?
Agreed. I'm no longer invested in Clementine's character in the slightest. For me, she failed as a protagonist. It's time to move on
I'd be for this, that and with Clementine sharing the protagonist role.
I was referring to the endings to season 2. kenny, jane, alone.
Okay, but I doubt they'll do 7 different openinings for an episode. I see them nullifying our choices as soon as they can.
