Spoiler free reviews of TWD: Michonne Episode 3 - 'What We Deserve'
Hey folks,
Figured since some people already have access to the episode this was a good time to set up the spoiler free review thread. Usual rules - no spoilers at all, don't ruin it for people.

Who has access to the episode?
AU PSN because of timezones.
RabidRetrospectGames on YouTube has uploaded part one of the finale.
Edit: Ah, that kind of who has access. Never mind me.
PSN Australia, I guess. Also some youtubers.
Gosh darn it you beat me in making this Thread, Flog. Ah well it will still be fun to see all the spoiler free impressions.
If he was given early access I hope he isnt ever again in the future
Huh, okay. Well hopefully the spoilers are contained
Well, at least I gave you a heads up.
Hes the guy who just uploads the raw gameplay right? No commentary? Because I dont watch that anyway, i'd just be bored.
Sorry for another post this quickly, but the episode seems to be barely under an hour long going by one persons playthrough...10 minutes shorter than episode 2. Well cool......
In this case I prefer no commentary, since there's no subtitles and the player isn't speaking over the characters in the game.
I really hope your wrong because otherwise this story could have been either all one episode or at the most split into two.
Wow, that sucks. Dunno what Telltale is playing at with this...
I'm assuming that's the case because the video I watched was 55 minutes and had a definitive ending in spite of the title saying 'Part 1'.
Why hello, I'll be your resident hype-builder-upper for today
I watched a playthrough of it, and personally, I really enjoyed it. It's a jam-packed episode. The tension starts building from the very beginning, then it goes from there and one thing leads to another and... shit, man. It's some intense shit. Let's just put it this way; if you thought the trailer was intense, well... the trailer doesn't cover the half of it. And to clear up some of the questions about the R 18+ rating, yeah, it most definitely has it for a reason.
More new walker and character models, which is always a plus in my book. Also, like I said above, shit gets gory. You thought flare gun guy was bad enough? Just wait till you see some of the shit that can go down here.
If character development concerns you guys, rest assured that you get some time to talk to everyone and learn a bit more about them, including some people you might not have expected to learn about. And even though it was already confirmed, Sam's family's last name is mentioned in the episode. Also, there's a hub, and it's one of the more expansive ones Telltale's done in quite a while. I'll leave it at that.
While not at the same level as episode 2 (in my opinion), the cinematography of the episode is on point. I can always appreciate good camera work and directing, and it still continues to be one of the most underrated aspects of Telltale's games. There's a few sequences that are pretty awesome.
I can't really attest for how much choice plays into it since I've only seen one playthrough, but in the playthrough I watched, choices made throughout all three episodes most definitely came back to haunt you. Pete being with you continues to add some interesting dynamic when it comes to conversations and interactions with other characters, which is a plus.
Music is great, as always. There's quite a few new tracks in the episode, along with reused ones (but they all fit really well, so I wouldn't consider that a down side).
And yes, there's a credits song, and it's pretty damn good. After all is said and done, it was a good choice to end out this little series.
Oh, and we finally learn which one is Colette and which one is Elodie, which is undoubtedly the most important detail of them all! But I'm not gonna say anything, you can find that mystery out on your own.
I don't think there's much else that can be mentioned without drifting too deep into spoiler territory. I hope none of this is overly spoilery, I'm trying to keep things vague enough while giving you an idea what you're in for.
Anyways, I'm going to reserve full judgement on it until I play it for myself tomorrow, but going off first impressions from what I watched? Fantastic. I'd give it a x/10 rating, but a) I don't like out of ten ratings and b) I'd rather hold off until I play for myself. So I'll just leave it at fantastic. Intense. At least one stomach-churning moment for me personally, and at least one moment that actually got me a bit emotional (not to teary-eyes level, but close. As always, I blame it on the music... in a good way, that is). Overall, I think most of you will be satisfied. Although there's something that might disappoint some people... (hint: it starts with "L" and ends with "ength". But I wouldn't let that ruin it for you. All things considered, even if it's only about an hour, it's a really good hour that wraps up the story quite well, and manages to fit action, character development and drama and all that good stuff into it. I can understand why people will be disappointed, but hey, what can you do? It is what it is, let's just hope that S3/Batman/MC:SM/etc will be longer again)
Of course, as always, your mileage may vary. I mean, I'm not exactly known for having the highest standards (I liked S2, I think that says enough about me as a person)
Did these hubs at least got briefly skimmed through or is that 55 minute playthrough also including everything in the hub?
Welp now it seems like I'm not going to be able to hold out for my favorite youtubers to upload their parts. Off I go to watch it.
I should clarify a bit. When I said expansive, I meant in scope. The area you can explore is quite large, and the conversations with characters are relatively long and meaningful. In comparison to other hubs Telltale's done, this one is pretty good. Not the best, but it's still good. I'll admit there's not a ton of stuff to interact with, but it's still pretty big. The playthrough I watched did seem to skip over some stuff though, yeah.
I am glad I was able to contribute to your poor impulse control
(Just joking around. I suck at waiting to play stuff, too)
You're a true hero of the Telltale forums.
Oh no, length, again? Goddamn it.
Good thing this is a mini-series and the ridicolous length is only applied here, as Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 5 had 90 minutes of game time.
But other than that, it seems it'll probably be the best episode of the mini-series...Cannot wait!!

All three episodes combined would just barely be around the length of Season 1 Episode 4 if that's true. Really hoping that's not the case.
Oh damn that episode was intense, that gory scene was amazingly satisfying, wish I could have done it myself.
How long is it compared to the others? Looking forward to putting Norma in her place.
Mini series are only smaller in the quantity of episodes. Things like quicker releases or short episode length should be independent of that. (Quicker episode releases are also going to apply to future Telltale series). If the mini series also entailed shorter episodes deliberately, I'm sure they would also make them cheaper. I'm guessing this is related to something else where Telltale could not extend the episodes too much, and just figured that the one hour episode length was sufficient.
EDIT: Don't forget, several episodes from full series were also around an hour long - Wolf Episodes 4/5, Minecraft Episode 2, etc. Again, it's just coincidental and depends on how much/how little story Telltale has to spread out across that episode.
It's between 55 and 65 minutes.
Took me an hour
Are there any playthroughs for this episode besides RabidRetrospectGames? He always keeps the music off.
Quite honestly, for a series like Michonne short Episodes don't really bother me, because Episode 2 had some of the best action sequences and brutal kills of the series, if not even the franchise. The story is still decent enough, and there are cool characters like Randall, plus awesome action scenes. Call me a pleb, but that's enough for a mini series in my eyes.
My only issue is that it's 15$, considering what we got in the end. A fun game, but very short. 10$ would have been more appropriate.
Also, while I hope that the short waiting times continue, I don't want that to lead to every 'main' Telltale game (TWD S3, GoT S2, Batman etc) having Episodes this short. I'd rather wait a month or two longer and get a longer game.
I thought there was music o_ O
Did anyone else have the guy with Norma's face model all messed up? He only had his eyes and looked like a walker lol.
I've watched his playthrough of Game of Thrones and Until Dawn, and no music.
This. Especially since they cost the same as normal episodes.
Yeah that was my gameplay/livestream. It was weird having the messed up face. It kinda reminded me of Assassin's Creed Unity.
Example
That's the thing, though - short waiting times do not correlate with short episodes. They could extend the episodes with more hubs, puzzles, etc (depending on what fits for the source material, of course), but they deliberately do not. They design their episodes to feel like interactive television as they say that is why people liked Season 1 in comparison to their older titles. If they wanted to, they could easily add more hub areas or other content.
I already watched it. It does have music. Can't be sure if you mean some scenes or just the whole thing.
Yeah, you're absolutely right.
I kinda said that to get my hopes up that S3's episodes will be 90 minutes :P
On the bright side, he's immune to headshots
Not immune to getting an eyepatch though.
