What's the role of Pete in the game?

Besides of being a pain in the ass?
He was supposed to be the "good moral character" of the game like Luke and Clementine (Season 1)?
Or he was just there to make you feel horrible about your choices?
He wants Michonne to open the door in Ep 1 if you take the ladder just after you saved his life, he tells Norma about the crew to "play nice" causing Berto's dead (Michonne can tell Norma about the crew too but that's determinant), he doesn't give a shit about the deaths in the game, he isn't even sad for Oak, and how ridiculous was the scene when you capture Randall, Sam got shoot and he complains about a small hit?
He just complain and complain about how horrible your decisions are but I don't see him doing something useful.

Shoulder angels
Let's say Sam is the "devil side" trying to convince you to do impulsive things while Pete is the "angel side" trying to make you think more rationally. There's always that type of character in Telltale games (ex. Duncan & Royland, Kenny & Luke)

Well... He does have a cute little knife.
I am sure Michonne knife is bigger.
That's why everyone prefer Sam
I'm guessing he was just one comic character telltale could add, Pete seems close to Michonne in the comic and talks to other characters and helps Michonne
I thought he was a good character, he was a bit too moral in episode 2 however understandingly so.
I felt way more connection to him than I did Luke after the whole of season 2, Pete was actually a funny character who supported the player and stepped up in fights an alike. I know they couldnt kill him but I'm still glad they didnt (or the bunch of the other characters they didnt). I hate the fact everyone keeps dying in the walking dead, some people should survive several seasons
