Heh, that's funny. Daryl is on my "over-the-top and annoying" list, while a lot of the relatively new ones are in my "interesting and with potential" list.
Daryl is on my "over-the-top and annoying" list. I am not really feeling his personality in general. I never did care much for him, for his character-centric episodes nor his relationships with Beth and Carol. I find him overrated and shallow, especially when he lifts a finger and half of the fandom goes mad, saying that "if Daryl dies we riot."
A lot of the relatively new ones are in my "interesting and with potential" list. Those as Gabriel, Eugene, Tara and Heath—among others—could grow to be round, integral characters. That's basically it.
I liked how Daryl really cares about the well being of others for example when he is on a run with Bob and he almost gets everyone killed over a bottle of alcohol I thought the way Daryl handled it was firm but fair. Or when he is off with Merle and stops him from stealing from the family. I also liked the character driven episode with Beth and how it focused on character development.
I agree about Heath and maybe Gabriel. I don't find Eugene particularly interesting and I've actually been hoping episode after episode they would get rid of Tara.

I totally forgot about two of those situations, probably because I disliked both episodes. In retrospective, they do show that Daryl attempts to do what is right, and I appreciate that. I don't necessarily hate him, I just find him stale, and I'd rather have him die at the hands of Negan.

It's so pointless to analyse this. I thought it was common knowledge by now that the writers didn't even know themselves who got the bat when they wrote the Episode.
Plus, this scene was filmed away from people. It makes no sense to try and see who in the lineup it was when absolutely no other actor other than JDM was even in the vicinity of the camera.
Point in case: every single one of these 'lineup' or 'shadow' or 'lightning' theories is simply false, since by the time this was shot, the victim wasn't even known to the writers.
