Comic vs. TV
Rick- I know I'll get some shit for this l, but I actually prefer Rick(TV). It's close though. But I think when Rick(Comic) said he hated Carl for not missing his mother, kinda turned me off a little. Also, since Rick's gotten older, I haven't liked any of his decisions.
Morgan-Close, but I love AMC's version. Not to mention Lennie James is awesome.
Lori-Lori(TV) wins by a close margin. Just because her death was a better send off. When Lori(Comic) got blasted, I was more in shock. Couldn't believe it.
Carl-Again, I think his TV counterpart wins by a slight margin. Carl(Comic) (pre-Lydia) was awesome. A real maniac, I really loved the interactions between him and Negan. It really seemed like he was on that edge of becoming like him for a minute. Carl(Comic) (post-Lydia), ew.
Shane-TV, no question.
Andrea-Comic, no question.
Dale-Gotta go with Dale(comic). Much more interesting than his "holier than thou" counterpart.
Carol-TV, no question.
Glenn-Comic... R.I.P
Maggie-Comic for sure. I love Maggie(TV), but her comic counterpart is probably my favorite character in this timeline.
Herschel-TV. Definitely felt his presence more.
Michonne-Tough one here. Love them both. Can't really compare the two, because they're so different; so I won't. They both win!
Tyreese-Comic
The Governor-Not sure how to vote on this one. On the comic hand, I hated him so much. The shit he did, death was too easy for him. He should've turned into a walker inside of a jail cell. So he could literally rot. On the TV hand, I actually liked his character. I mean not in a he shouldn't have died way. He had that coming. But as a character I liked him. (Sorta the way I like Negan. I wish Rick killed him instead of locking him up. But damn do I get excited when he's in an issue). Gonna have to go with TV on this one.
Abraham-TV
Rosita-TV
Eugene-TV
Aaron-Comic
Denise-Loved Comic Denise, didn't care for her TV counterpart.
Holly-WTF AMC?
Heath-COMIC
That's it for now, went for major characters up to this point. Didn't count any of the saviors as we haven't seen enough of them imo. Please feel free to add characters.
Comments
Rick - Comic
Carl - Comic
Andrea - Comic
Morgan - TV
Lori - Tie.
Dale - Comic
Carol - TV
Shane - TV. For me, he's the sole character that is 100% better than their comic counterpart. Sure, I have other TV counterparts I like more than the comic counterparts, but TV Shane's the only one I prefer in every category. I like TV Carol more than comic Carol, but there's elements of both of them that I like. Shane, on the other hand, everything about his TV counterpart completely trumps his comic version.
Glenn - Comic
Maggie - Comic
Michonne - Comic (Similar to you, I like both of them a lot, but there's something about comic Michonne that appeals to me more than TV Michonne)
Tyreese - Comic
Hershel - TV. TV Hershel is basically the Dale we should have had.
Governor - In terms of characterization, TV. In terms of villainy and overall impact, Comic. The TV version had much more character and depth than the comic Gov, but one of the things that made the comic Gov memorable was the cumulative damage he caused. He has left a permanent impact on not only the comic, but on Rick, Carl, Maggie and the rest. In comparison, all the TV Gov really accomplished was destroying the prison and killing Hershel. He also killed Milton, Andrea and Martinez, and Pete (bet you barely remember this guy), but due to the characterization of Andrea, most people probably thank him for getting rid of her, while the other three were mostly minor characters that were sorta cool, but weren't major enough to make people hate the Gov or feel much when he offed them. Compare that to comic Gov taking Rick's hand, his family, Carl's mom and sister, Maggie's brother and dad, Tyreese, Axel, Alice, Patricia, and the prison.
Abraham - Comic
Eugene - Comic
Rosita - TV
Aaron - Tie. Comic Aaron's a cool dude, but TV Aaron, despite not having as much screen time, is just as interesting as his comic counterpart.
Heath - Comic
Holly - Comic
Denise - Comic
Nicholas - Comic
Tobin - TV. TV Tobin's a cool dude, and I hope they keep him around for AOW. Maybe he can take comic Nicholas' place.
Father Gabriel - TV. Comic Gabriel only recently realized he's a character, and started doing stuff. Meanwhile, TV Gabe is sitting out in the sun, sipping a martini, enjoying the luxury of having a character arc.
Axel - Comic. It's a shame, TV Axel was actually pretty neat, but they didn't give him any chance to develop. Imagine if they kept him around until S4, and had him die during the prison assault. I bet people would actually feel something, and it'd give them a chance to possibly make him even more interesting than comic Axel.
Bob Stookey - TV. Bob was pretty much a background character in the comic (unless you count the novels), but TV Bob was cool. Also, he took up the mantle of Dale after Hershel bit the bullet-- well, sword, technically.
Lizzie and Mika/Ben and Billy - TV/Lizzie and Mika. They're technically counterparts, despite the gender swap. They were handled way better in the show, and The Grove still stands as one of the best episodes the show has put out.
Spencer - TV. He hasn't been around too long in the show yet, but I already like TV Spencer a lot more than comic Spencer. Even if TV Spencer ends up pulling the same stunt, I think people might actually feel bad for his TV counterpart this time.
Jessie - TV
Douglas/Deanna - Tie.
TV Governor got Axel too, I'm pretty sure.
I think one of the best things TV Governor did was get rid of Andrea. God i hated her. Hated her more than the Governor.
Uugh, just thinking about her pisses me off. Lol.
Next time please add a spoiler tag for the comics when mentioning characters deaths or any major events as others (like myself) haven't read them yet. Luckily I already knew about the one you mentioned.
I may have gone overboard on this list!
Yes, shame about spoilers. I always try to stay clear for others. As I hate getting things spoilt. Where are you up too? or have you not started?
Shit! Sorry about that.
I haven't started yet but I'm definitely interested.
It's fine. Pretty easy to forget.
