A few questions (undecided to buy)

I have played (TWAU, TFTBL, TWD1&2) but MC:SM (not really for me) and Game of Thrones.

Love the show. So I know the characters and lore etc.

The first episode was free on XBOX ONE. I played through episode 1 and there were moments I enjoyed it, but it didn't really grip me like I thought it would... So I was very undecided whether to buy the season.

So I have a few questions:

  1. Would you recommend? (rating/review) Maybe? - Your opinion but spoiler free obviously
  2. How many episodes are there and whats their length?
  3. Does it ties directly to the show as it shares characters?
  4. Are the choices very hard? - In terms of if they really change the experience. Not like what ever you do it will have the same end result.
  5. I didn't really get into the playable characters in that episode (apart from Mira who I liked) So are there more? I hear theres about 5 PC?

Thanks guys!

  • 1) Would recommend, 9/10. Although I've always been a sucker for dark fantasy settings.

    2) 6 episodes. Around 1 hour 30 mins from what I can remember.

    3) Yes, a few show characters appear in every episode.

    4) There are some choices that are quite hard, especially at the end of episode 5. The Duncan/Royland choice also changes a few scenes.

    5) You get 2 more PCs to play as in episode 2.

    1. Hell yeah I recommand, 9.7/10
    2. Six episodes. 90 mins or a hour or so.
    3. Yeah. There will be cameo(s) from the TV show chars too. But whatever you choose to say to them or do desicions it won't matter
    4. some of the choices are Major and It will tell you what strategy you used at the end of the game. but be careful some choices matters
    5. Ethan. A Exilled forrester. Secret lord forrester.Gared.Mira.

    1. Absolutely, 9/10

    2. Six Episodes. Each range anywhere between 100-120 mins (excluding episode 5 which is around 80)

    3. Quite a few character cameos but they aren't too distracting that they take you out of the Forrester's storyline.

    4. Imo, Yeah. There's some pretty rough decisions that will have to be made, and there's some pretty interesting outcomes.

    5. There are 2 more playable characters introduced after episode 1.

  • It's easily my favourite Telltale series. It's mostly because I've felt so connected to the characters. Show characters do appear but it's not about them. They do appear more often then some would like, their influence isn't that big though so it didn't bother me that much. There's six episodes most are an hour long but at least one's length is noticeably shorter. It's set in the tv show but any events in the show that appear in the game is because of how it affects the game characters. The Red wedding in episode 1 for example as it put the Boltons in power. So I don't think any are forced. I think most choices are pretty difficult. Some of them I sure you'll notice don't change much but as the story goes on there are some really noticeable differences. The PC's get a lot more interesting and fun to play. There are more you haven't played yet there are in fact 5 PC's (that includes Ethan).

    1. If you're a fan of Game of Thrones in general, yes.
    2. 6 episodes, 1 hour or 1 1/2 hours, sometimes 2 hours.
    3. It takes place a few days after the Red Wedding.
    4. For a first playthrough where you don't know what happens next, yes.
    5. There are 2 more PCs when you start Episode 2.

    1. I totally recommend it. I think it's one of Telltale's best games out there.
    2. 6 episodes (including episode 1). Each of them last 2 hours the most (except for episode 5, which is the shortest episode in the series, which lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes the most. At least in my experience).
    3. Yes. As the others said, there are a few cameos of some of the characters in the TV show. But they don't have a huge role in the game, as it wants you to focus on the Forresters and the Forrester storyline in general.
    4. The choices were really hard to make. Especially in episode 5 and 6.
    5. Without spoiling nothing, yes. You get 2 more playable characters in episode 2. Trust me, you will love those 2 PCs. I know I did.
    1. I would definitely recommend this game if you love to be on the edge of your seat as the plot moves forward. I would give it 9/10. But just know, that this is GoT, this is a dark and mature story.
    2. There are 6 episodes and the playtime varies depending on how you spend the time playing.
    3. Yes, it does ties to the show. The characters from the TV are here. But their roles aren't that huge. If anything, they are here to remind people that the Forrester's story exist in the same continuity as the show.
    4. The choices are hard. There are plenty of times, where I just paused the game, just to think. The hard choices add to the whole experiences.
    5. In my opinion, the remaining playable characters gets better as you play them. As I went through the game, I feel that I am actively shaping the characters the way I wanted.
    1. If you are a fan, want to see/hear characters from the show and you're rich, buy it. Otherwise - don't. 4/10.
    2. Six. Not longer than other (recent) TTG episodes.
    3. Well known characters do appear in the game. And places. Don't play bigger role but without them it would not be the "Game of Thrones". Westeros is much smaller world in this game.
    4. Sometimes decisions seems important. In fact they are not. Don't worry.
    5. Too many characters and not enough time to build a solid one. Your favourite Mira in one ep. gets 20 minutes or less. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a PC; this makes his past story (and your choices) even less important.

You're of bad faith there. You can say you don't like it but the choices do change the story. They have more impact than WD for example.

  • You mean the last one in EP5 right? Because the others were still very TWD-ish.

  • It changes the whole story of the EP6. The result is in the end looks the same but the whole episode changes.

Also don't forget all the choices which will have more impacts (it looks like it) in S2.

    • How many episodes are there and whats their length?

The shortest episode has 1h:30m I think.

    • Does it ties directly to the show as it shares characters?

Yes! You can 'see' a lot of show events from another prespective.

    • Are the choices very hard?

Yep! I'd say it's the TT game with the hardest choices.

    • In terms of if they really change the experience. Not like what ever you do it will have the same end result.

Beter than TWD definitely but still not enough to cal it 'mattering'. By the end of the Season you'll be playing two different episodes depending on one choice, but that's about it.

You can chose to not do one thing and still get blamed for it. You can chose to not kill a person that ends up dying anyway. You can choose to not help a friend and you'll end up helping them. Usual Telltale.

But it's still above every other TellTale game in that aspect, so if TWD satisfied you, this certainly will.

    • I didn't really get into the playable characters in that episode (apart from Mira who I liked) So are there more? I hear theres about 5 PC?

5PCs. I also didn't care about anyone after Episode 1... and then Episode 5 left me crying about a fictional character. I can say that all the characters (not only the PCs) are very interesting and relatable.

    • Would you recommend?

Yes. While choices don't matter that much, the story is insanely awesome and the characters are extremely good.

There's also another con: Episode 6 (The Ice Dragon) kinda leaves you hanging. I'll be blunt - Season 1 does not conclude the story at all.

  • Fair enough. I just don't think that one choice mattering erases all the ones that didn't.

  • Well, we will see if the choices in the end of e6 matters for S2. Seeing how it is settled I hope so. But I think that the choice in EP5 changed things compared to what they do usually; and some choices change the story but not the whereabout if you didn't take the other choice; so it does matter.. from a certain point of view.

Fair enough. I just don't think that one choice mattering erases all the ones that didn't.

  • I love the books, i like the show, and for the first couple episodes of the game, i liked it too.

But, i hated the decisions i was being forced into, and after what happened with regards to the traitor. I gave it up. Still haven't finished the game past that episode and wont be purchasing a second season if thats where they're going with it. It was very dissapointing to me personally, as i was ecstatic when i heard they were making it.

    1. Yes and no. It's got a decent story going on, but fails as a game, in my humble opinion.
    2. Six episodes with roughly two hours per episode.
    3. Yes,
    4. They are when you first encounter them, but in the long run, they don't change much other than a few lines of dialogue and maybe a scene or two. About the most "impact" they have is the last episode, kinda.
    5. Yes. You meet them in following episodes.
    • Would you recommend? (rating/review) Maybe? - Your opinion but spoiler free obviously

To be completely honest, I don't think I would. I have many problems with this game from glaring plot holes to stupid behaviours. The fact that the first Season is just a big tease for Season 2 doesn't help things either.

    • How many episodes are there and whats their length?

I believe others already answered that.

    • Does it ties directly to the show as it shares characters?

Yes. I'd actually prefer less show character involvement, especially from certain someone, but eh, can't go into spoilers.

    • Are the choices very hard? - In terms of if they really change the experience. Not like what ever you do it will have the same end result.

The choices matter in typical Telltale fashion (so not really - except for one), but if you look past that, there are a lot of tough choices to make.

    • I didn't really get into the playable characters in that episode (apart from Mira who I liked) So are there more? I hear theres about 5 PC?

Indeed, you'll meet 2 new protagonists in the upcoming episodes. If it helps, I didn't like anyone after Episode 1 either, but thorough the episodes some of the characters slowly grew on me. And you still haven't met the best character. :D

  • Thanks for feedback guys! I'll check it out soon :D
