Why do People like Negan?

I just read TWD #154 I hate Negan he is not a good character he is annoying. The fact that they write him to say fuck every other word I think is what makes me hate him. Negan reminds me of Hodor from GOT. Hodor is at least mentally damaged and can only say Hodor, reading Negan is like you are talking to a little kid who does not know how to swear properly. That being said he is not stupid and is a character I want to like but the childishness of his character is a no go for me. # Kill Negan he Sucks

I love him because he says hilarious things like this.

Besides, that's the point of his character. He's supposed to act like an immature person.

  • That I don't have problem with I find that funny and creative more swearing like that less I will say fuck eighteen times a comic.

  • I'll admit I loathed him when he first appeared, killing Glenn and all but his comic esque humor, funny temperament and relationship with Carl made him way more likeable than the Governor or (enter irredeemable one dimensional villain here). Negan actually has standards (being against rape etc) so yeah he's easily my favorite villain in TWD thus far

  • Cool that is why I was asking this question I see lots of Negan love everywhere and not much criticism or just plain old he is a giant duche talk about him.

I like to think that's because everyone's already talked about how much of a douche he was when he first showed up. But now, after 50+ issues of his rather interesting personality and funny dialogue, there's not many negatives for people to talk about anymore.

Cool that is why I was asking this question I see lots of Negan love everywhere and not much criticism or just plain old he is a giant duche talk about him.

  • I have a love/hate relationship with him. On one hand I hate him to death, and wish he were dead. On the other hand I find him really interesting and funny. Like @Clemenem, I also saw him in a different light after his interactions with Carl. Also, realizing he made a mistake when trying to "break" both Dwight and Rick was really interesting.

Just a really deep character, imo. Not your average villian, that's for sure.

  • I personally despise the guts of Negan, but not in the way of a "villain you love to hate," or whatever. I disagree with so fucking many of his actions and decisions, and his kingdom of terror, that I'm fed up with it—to the point where I would be happy if Alpha or Beta or even an unnamed whisperer killed him down once and for all. I'm begging for it. Magna, Michonne, whoever.

I'll take the newest victim, Brandon. Sure, he was annoying to most, myself included, but for me, that's not going to cloud the fact that Negan murdered him just after the kid helped him escape. He doesn't get to do whatever he wants because he acts inmaturely and swears left and right. Negan murdered Spencer for wanting to overthrow Rick behind his back, when Negan himself turned into a traitor.

Why hasn't Negan asked, on-screen I mean, about Olivia's whereabouts? She was his caretaker for about two years, and he still didn't give a shit for her? You'd think that her death would make him enraged against the whisperers, but he was happy to join them.

If he ends up killing Dwight and people fan over him, I swear I'll lose it.

  • I don't think I started reading them until the 12 issue war thing started and I mainly come on here for my TWD info and few youtubers it could be I missed the U.S.S. he stinks boat.

Pretty sure the exact opposite would happen, so you're good.

I'd lose my shit if that happened. I want Negan Lucilled, by Dwight.

  • I pretty sure people actually "like" him, hes obviously a bad person, but people "like" his character because he is so different from everyone else, and written differently from everyone else.

  • That's a relief, for sure.

  • I want to like him but it is mainly his use of the word fuck in a way that I find annoying. I really liked the movie Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny which way over used that word but I found that funny because they are supposed to be morons. Negan is supposed to be a smart leader and he just annoys me instead making me have any respect for him. I find his meeting with Whisperers pretty corny a well hopefully they will be sneaky and kill him.

Yeah, quite a lot of people hated him at first. I was one of them. But around the time All Out War kicked in, most people were actually starting to like him. In fact, from what I recall, people especially started to like him after the issue with Carl. That's when he started to show that he was more than just sweary shouty dude, that he actually had a code and and some ideology behind what he's doing. And when the war started up, people realized that he's actually more intelligent than he lets on, and is a good strategist to boot. I mean, when you think about it, the war was basically 3 vs 1, and Negan still managed to hold his own, nearly wiping out one of the communities in the process. He's definitely a formidable and well-rounded antagonist, even in spite of his larger-than-life personality and language. I think that's part of what adds to his charm for a lot of people, anyways. He's purposely over-the-top. It's a persona he's putting on. That being said though, I can agree that some of his lines aren't that great. I think a majority of them are just the right amount of over-the-top, like his infamous big swinging dick speech for example, but then you have other ones that just sound dumb, if not cringey. Of course, that's more or less down to opinion, I guess.

I don't think I started reading them until the 12 issue war thing started and I mainly come on here for my TWD info and few youtubers it could be I missed the U.S.S. he stinks boat.

  • The meeting was corny with an extra side dish of cheese. It was what I expected, but something felt kind of off, and I can't put my finger on it. Why would Beta and the whisperers attack Michonne and Aaron, but not Negan? Are we supposed to believe that one of them recognized either?

Doesn't help that half of the people and I read Beta McTwokNives instead of McTwoKnives. That's one of the downsides of writing a comic in all-caps.

Yes. That is exactly the reason.

Negan acts like he doesn't know the Whisperers, and they buy it, thinking he's just some dude that strolled into their neighborhood. Also, if you ask me, I think Beta was somewhat amused by him. After Negan calls him out and starts talking about how many of them can fight, and how many he thinks he can take out, Beta has a smirk on his face, like he's amused by Negan's bravado. I like to think that played into the decision to bring him back to their camp. I mean, Negan's basically talking shit to a 7 foot monster of a man while he's clearly outnumbered. You either have to be really dumb or really ballsy to do that. And considering dumb people usually don't make it this far into the apocalypse...

They knew Michonne and Aaron were from the communities, and they have a zero-tolerance policy for the border being crossed. That's why they attack them.

  • Because hes a funny and interesting character that adds to the story.

Especially given that most of the main cast are now dont have much conflict anymore, the gov and alpha got boring fairly quickly, but again at least they shook things up somewhat

  • He's funny, smart, awesomely vulgar and a deeper character than you could image at first glance. That said, I wish Rick had just killed him when he had the chance, his excuse for not doing so is incredibly lame.

  • He fits neatly into the chaotic evil 'unpredictable sweary funny villain dude' trope so people lap it up, that's what it seems like to me so far.

  • I thought it was a good example to do back when the war ended, but now issue 154, what a bad decision to leave him alive.
