The Markings
What do you think the markings mean? I think that they are like identification of people from some sort of compound. (It would make sense that citizens from a certain compound would be marked for security reasons). The guy with Clem is probably from that compound.

Slavery maybe? It's possible that the people use the branding idea to mark their slaves so the rest of the group can keep track of the ones they control. Javier may be an escaped slave that went to Clem's community to get help. I don't think the idea of slavery was brought up in Walking Dead before, so if that's the route they take that'll be awesome.
I doubt it would have anything to do with slavery. Slavery would be an extremely difficult thing to pull off given the world they are living in. Wouldn't be to hard for the slaves to revolt and it would be very difficult to hold off a slavery revolt. If anything it is probably something similar to what we saw with the Wolves in the show.
Maybe not slavery per say. Could happen though. Got me thinking that maybe they were test subjects for an antidote and maybe Javier escaped before he was tested.
I dunno about the antidote idea. Kirkman did say there won't be a cure to the walkers. But Javier definitely seems to have escaped from something.
True. I'm sure some people try/tried to find one though
I hope that Javi dood isn't boring as hell..
Could be identification for any number of things: Test subjects, the people doing the tests, a secret society, a group of thugs, a group of mercenaries. The possibilities are endless.
Maybe it's just a thing for members of a certain group to identify bodies or something.
Maybe like the Wolves.
Well Javier has it as well so I feel like it's probably not a positive mark? Seeing as how certain clues point towards Javier and Clem going to look for a group that may or may not be a common enemy between them.
However, I think the mark might be a form of keeping track of people in this group and it may possibly be a mark they use to keep track of hostages? I have no idea honestly, this is all speculation.
The test subject theory for a cure could support this as the subjects would most likely be treated inhumanely. It would be interesting to see that aspect be kinda like an antagonist in a way because I don't think anything like that has happened in TWD yet.
If they did a cure type storyline I'd think they would want to do it in an entirely different way than Last of Us did. Where they took people and removed their brain for study.
It could be testing injections or some sort of therapy (ie shock therapy)
I'm kinda hoping Telltale thought out-of-the-box for what the symbol's used as. The only theory I've seen floating around is some variation of "belongs to X (either as a slave or [ex-]teammate).
Yeah. I'm interested to see where they take it. There's definitely potential for it to be really interesting.
My theory is that it is a prisoner identification tag of some sort or as others have said being marked as a possible test subject for grisly experiments. I think it maybe also why Clem is wearing a bracelet on her wrist, she did not have it in the last season which leads me to believe it is another form of a prisoner id. For all we know she may of been captured and put into a work/prison camp like the situation that occurred with Howe's and Carver in Season 2.
