Question about the playstation store

I should probably start off by saying I'm not a real big gamer at all. Walking Dead is pretty much the only game I play anymore (based on my addiction to the overall Walking Dead universe) so I can easily go six months to a year without turning my playstation 3 on anymore. In the past I have just waited until the Walking Dead games were released on dvd to play the game but this time thought about purchasing the episodes online so I could play them when released. However do you have to pay for a membership to the playstation store in order to even buy the episodes? If so is it very expensive and are the individual episodes a lot more expensive than they are than just buying the entire game when released on dvd?

If there is an expensive membership charge and the episodes are more expensive than just paying for the entire game in disc form I think I will just wait for season 3 to be released on dvd again and will just avoid spoilers like I did for season 2.

  • You don't need to be a PlayStation plus member to buy a single episode the only time you need PlayStation plus is to get the discount on the game they have on sale sometimes

  • Every PS3 gamer has access to the PS Store for free, Sony wants to sell stuff there after all. Individual Episodes are usually 5$, Season passes are usually 20$ for five Episode Seasons.

  • Ok so basically all I need to do is be hooked up to the internet to buy the games?

  • You will also have to add money to your PSN account. This is very annoying because you can only use your credit card or have to buy cards with assigned values, so even if you only need 20$, you might have to add 30$ because there is no 20$ value card. You can buy these cards online or in a shop. I would advise you not to use your credit card as PSN has been robbed before.

  • Ahh. Should places like quicktrip have them? I usually buy amazon giftcards from quicktrip.

  • I wouldn't risk driving somewhere and then not finding them (not from the US myself, so I don't know where to get them). If you have PayPal, I would use a site like mmoga.com to be honest, it's not illegal since they simply buy the cards en masse to sell them at a slightly higher price (you'd pay 10€ for a 10$ card). I can put my hand in the fire for them as I have ordered from them several times, but I understand if you don't trust sites like that. In that case you should inform yourself where in the US the cards are sold in stores.

  • An update: I don't think Quiktrip sells them, but according to some people online you can get them at Walmart and Target. Target also sells digital PSN cards. So if you're more comfortable buying it that way, then that's your best bet.

  • Cool. Thanks. I'll check it out.

  • That is correct; the paid membership only applies to specific perks like online multiplayer or special discounts I believe.

  • If you have a Credit Card (or a debt card), then you should be able to pay the direct price of the game anyways without paying any extra. He is referring to if you do not want to use a credit card/debt card to purchase the game.

  • I also have a credit card, but I will not use it for purchases on PSN because of the data robberies a while back. Maybe it's extreme, but I've made it a habit to buy PSN cards instead.
