Javier seems like a nice enough character but I'd rather just play as Clementine to be honest. Walking dead has always felt like her story. Even in season 1 when we were playing as Lee, we taught her everything she knows so taking over as Clem in season 2 seemed the most logical step.
Personally if were going to be playing as 2 characters, I'd rather it be handled like 400 days was but it worked for TftB though so I'll give him a chance.
i would have been disappointed if the protagonist was just clementine, i think season 2 sort of encourages a selfish playstyle (because you weren't expected to be any kind of protector or leader as a child) which was completely opposite to season one, and in my opinion it would have been a bit bland to just have another clementine story, however this season clementine looks old enough to protect herself and others (including javier) and the same with javier, so even if it came down to only helping out the other protagonist at least the helper/protector dynamic would be there, and also javier seems to have an integral part to the season 3 story, so he seems interesting.
I'm all for playing as Clem she is great and I love her. I may be the only one who thinks this way but instead of the new guy wouldn't Christa be perfect for that role? She has history with Clem, she's badass and she has a potential motive( she got attacked and disappeared and we know nothing about it). Or maybe even Kenny/Jane would be a good choice. I would love to play as them along with Clem. I know this isn't going to happen I just want Kenny/Jane/Christa to be involved in the new season.
I don't see the problem, some people wanted Clem as protagonist and some wanted someone else and we get both, so both sides should be happy. I suppose they could have the second protagonist be an established character, but there aren't that many to pick from since most of them are dead and Michonne was always meant as an unrelated side game.
Additionally, this new character seems be a big part of the plot they came up with since they are looking for a group related to the markings on both him and the walker. I think this is also what they meant about the game being both a continuation and a new beginning: Clementine is the continuation and Javier is the new beginning. One of their goals is to make a game where you can jump into to S3 easily without playing the previous games, but also have elements for people that have been playing all along.
Yes, thats true I really disliked Tales from the Borderlands.
And this trailer, really gave me the feeling , that they will be copying the way, how they handeled the two protagonist.
By randomly switching to one and another, If they will write it in the style of 400-days for example, I wouldn't mind more the one protagonist.
Its because I dont like talking to another, character that I also control with my choices. I personally just really dislike this way of, character interaction.
No offense to people, who enjoyed playing TFTB btw
I like the idea. i think it will give the game some variety. I always liked that conceit, being able to see events from two different perspective. It worked really well with Tales. Yes, that was more of a goofy comedy but I think it could really work well here too.
Yes, ofcourse I understand that.
But I just think it is a bad way of introducing the new playable character.
Instead of using a character we already knew, from one of the previous games.
I don't know if I really like it, I mean, if they wanted to do another pc, then why is Clementine in the game? Then her appearence should be over with the multiple endings in S2, better than putting her in the middle of something that's made just for having her here because she appeared in the past seasons, and telling some shit stuff that happened offscreen with no real consequence of choices on S2 endings. I'm disappointed, I don't want her as being a '' supporting '' character or something secundary, I'd prefer to be more disappointed than that and not having Clementine here making S2 multiple endings look like shit.
*That's my opinion, and you're free to think the opposite of this.
Well, considering how Tales form the Borderlands played (yeah, I know it was kinda different), I would definitely consider myself more open to playing as two protagonists .
i hate the idea of playing as clementine again, FCK!!! she ruined me season 2 and now she's gonna ruin me season 3 all over again, at least we have a new protagonist/playable character, season 3 will be only half garbage/bullsht, unlike season 2 that was a complete trash!

I like this idea of having two PCs. I hope we play more as Clementine than Javier, however. I interested in playing as someone new, but I see this as Clementine's story and I'd rather develop her character more than anyone else.
I was hoping we could have been able to create our own character for the 3rd season of the Walking Dead game.
But oh well, let's hope we get to know more about that Javier guy, other than he looks like Josh Birk from the Saints Row games. =P
I don't have any huge problems with it. As others have said, there were quite a lot of people who either wanted to play as Clem or a brand new character in season 3; Telltale has evidently taken that into consideration. Knowing that Telltale staff may be reading our posts makes me pretty hyped for this season, seeing as this likely means that they've read our posts regarding suggestions and hopes for season 3, complaints/disappointments with season 2 game-play, characters, story, etc. I really hope that we'll get a more cohesive plot, consistent tone and theme, more engaging/believable character interaction, and most importantly, actual stakes that make us feel like the game is truly tailored by our decisions. Personally, I think that season 2 was severely lacking in those areas; so, hopefully, Telltale has recognized these issues and made major improvements for season 3.
My only concern about playing as two characters is quite minor, which is whether or not this will greatly affect my ability to immerse myself in the story and identify with the character I'm playing as. When I was playing season 1, I was Lee; when I was playing season 2, I was Clem. The problems they were confronted with, the conversations, relationships, and arguments they had with fellow characters, the difficult decisions they were forced to make, and the resulting consequences - all of it I felt deeply. And I think this is largely because I was only playing as one character and I could only see and react from their perspective, for the most part. I only had control over one character's actions - no one else's. Playing as both Clem and Javier…I'm a little worried that I might have too much control over their interactions with each other, as well as other characters. It also may be difficult to submerge myself in the story and the character I’m playing as, since I'm guessing the game-play will be split among Clem and Javier. This is one of the issues I had with Tales from the Borderlands - I didn't really like playing as both Rhys and Fiona, tbh. Not that it made the game any less fun, but I think I would have enjoyed it even more had I been only able to play as one character.
Again, this is only a minor concern, and I very well may be worrying over nothing, seeing as all we have to speculate on is a teaser that is barely more than a minute long. Who knows, maybe we'll end up being able to choose to play as only one character, as opposed to switching back and forth. Overall, I’m super excited - I love the new character designs (Clem looks like a complete badass), and I'm very intrigued by Javier's character (I’m curious about that strange mark on his neck and its relation to the marked walker Clem put down, as well as their destination. Maybe they’re tracking his old group?) and his connection/relationship to both Clem and the storyline. I can't wait to learn more about what is in store for us this season.:]
At one point, Lee Everett and the 400 Days Cast were also new people who we knew nothing about. I'm gonna wait and see what the story is before judging.
I would have been perfectly happy with just playing as Clem. I'm worried that s3 won't really be a continuation of Clem's story instead it will be about this new guy and slowly push Clem to the sideline. I want Clem to be the point of focus and not be this guys sidekick or whatever. Instead of this new guy imagine Christa playing his role. Everyone would be so hyped to have a character besides Clem that they know and can play as.
Wait, so do we choose who we want to play as, or are they gonna be switching us between characters? (I never played GoT or Borderlands so I dont know how it works in those games). I love Clem, and I dont want some random dude to be taking my time away from her.
I think this is a good thing to be honest! Now we can see how our previous choices affected Clementine's personality without us being the ones to decide how she feels after so many years all the time. I wonder if the possible dialogue decisions will change depending on the person she's become?
I assume that it will be like Tales From The Borderlands, where you are switched between them for different scenes. Borderlands proved for me that it could work without making you less attached to the two protagonists, and I think that Telltale will give Clem more time anyway because she is THE main character of this series.

I'm kind of annoyed that we'll be playing as Clementine yet again, but at least she's sharing the role with an adult protagonist this time.
I am actually happy with playing two protagonists. It worked really well in Tales from the Borderlands.

Gross. Totally not what I meant. Clem needs a Rick sized group, and I believe Javy is the start.

I like it. They did a good job doing the same thing in TFTBL so I don't see why they can't do it in the walking dead.
I like the idea. This reminds me of The Last of Us. Playing as the guardian and the protege.
I don't know yet. We'll just have to wait until the game comes out.
@Lilly4Season3 hates that game. I don't though.

I'm cool with it. All I wanted was to be able to play Clementine again and I get to do that so it's fine.
If only Jane will make it on season 3 but i feared that she might gonna be killed or will get seperated from clementine..

oh yes
Why?
Where was it said that we are playing as two characters?
Minutes after they showed the trailer on the livestream.
Job mentioned it in the E3 interview.

I feel like "bye bye TTG"
I think they give us Javiar for save/protect Clem.
Probably Clem will in danger and we will use Javiar to save her.

I think it's cool as it makes everyone happy. Some people didn't like to play as Clem, but some people did. It's a win-win situation.
