What would you say makes Kenny perhaps different, (in a good way), from most people?

Personally, I'd say the biggest thing that makes him different is how loyal he is. Think about how far he went to protect Clementine and AJ!

He nearly got beat to death to protect her. She wasn't his daughter, yet he nearly got killed for her.

And even when he was furious about Sarita dying, and blamed Clem for Sarita's death, he still protected her when walkers attacked as Rebecca was going into labor.

And he took the two of them as far as Wellington, he was even pleaded for them to be allowed inside, even if that means he couldn't be.

Now how many people would honestly go that far for another person, even if they claim to love them?

Bonnie liked Clementine, and indeed cared for her, but after Clementine was shot and Bonnie thought her life was on the line, she ran off to save herself. Ans Mike didn't even give it a second thought!

Lilly claimed to care about Clementine, but when she thought her own ass was in a sling, she deserted her and Lee - even if Lee had had her back.

Kenny not only gave nearly everything for Clementine, but was also not above helping someone he despised. When Ben fell in the allyway, even though Kenny hated him for what Ben did to his family, he still tried to save Ben. And when he couldn't, he put Ben out of his misery - so Ben wasn't torn apart by Walkers.

Or if Christa got in trouble, Kenny jumped down to save her, even though he put himself in danger. And he didn't even know her for very long, and therefore owed her nothing.

How many people would do as Kenny did? I would say Kenny's level of selflessness is very uncommon. What do you think?

I hope this doesn't start arguments lol. Kenny is a character who gets a reaction no matter what good or bad. People can't stop talking about him and that's a fact and a Telltale masterpiece as far as I'm concerned.

  • His loyalty.
His ability to smash heads with salt licks.
Ability to catch fish (which is good in an apocalypse as food isn't that easy to come by).
    Boats.
    Good fighter (season 2).

I honestly like the way that you always know where you stand with Kenny. Be it on his good side or his bad side, it doesn't matter—he'll make sure you know his opinion on you. In that sense, he his also one of the most realistic characters Telltale has created, acting heavily differently toward you depending on how you've treated him. In Season 1 at least.

Season 2, uh… not so much.

His loyalty, selflessness, and honesty all come to mind. Kenny doesn't try to pretend to be something he's not, and makes his opinions clear. Sometimes the way he goes about making his opinions clear isn't the best, but it's pretty refreshing. He's rather reckless and impulsive, and a lot of his plans aren't the best. However, he always has some kind of plan prepared, even during the worst disasters. Oh, and don't forget how eloquently he communicates. I mean COME ON! I've never witnessed such a glorious communicater. Not to mention that no mortal can maintain such a glorious mane of facial hair during the apocalypse. (And sorry if I offended anyone without noticing)

I have listened to this honestly hundreds of times. (No judgement please) It is really great. It was made exactly for Kenny and it kind of goes over his awesomeness.

  • Yeah season 2 not so much and it's such a damn shame it was written so badly! It seemed so promising after watching the episode 3 preview when Kenny seemed to either react normally or be annoyed that Clem surrendered or not at the lodge. I was expecting so many other things to carry over and change the relationship like when it said "Kenny will remember that" if not sitting at dinner with him. I expected little things like this to change the way he treats Clem good or bad but alas they make every outcome the same and never change characters personalities towards you except for Bonnie in episode 5 and that is it literally. Very sad

This is another reason why i like Kenny. He is always completely honest and he will speak his mind and tell you exactly what he thinks be it something good or bad. Even if that makes him an asshole sometimes, it's something that not enough people even in real life do. How many of us want to tell our bosses what we really think of them? Kenny would haha. It's another reason why i trust him over everyone else

  • Loyalty

Yeah I'm sure refusing to help a good friend find a kidnapped 9 year old because depending on choices, he never always (or basically not at all) sided with the former is loyalty.

    Selflessness

  • I don't see any "negativity" in stating your own opinion. If you wanted a thread with no options to display your own argument, then you shouldn't have created this in the first place.

Now to return to the subject, Kenny is a good man, but sadly, he is far too gone. At least in season 2. In season 1, we learn a lot of interesting facts about him, like when he asked Lee about the urban thing (we can see that Kenny is uncomfortable with breaking a lock, and media tends to exaggerate about thieves, hence why he asked) and that he has a soft heart for his son, even if he agrees that Duck is not that smart. Your decisions will have an impact on his behaviour. :P

  • Haha. Slightly off topic but @BetterToSleep don't suppose you saw a thread i made not too long ago where i shared ideas on how i'd love to have seen a game based on all of the season 1 characters lives just before or as the apocalypse was happening? Like seeing what Kenny was like when working out on a boat somewhere, perhaps telling someone what he thinks of something he caught or Lilly and Larry working at that air force base, Katjaa tending to animals in her veterinarian job etc. It would never happen but i'd love to see it.

  • Always voices his opinions, whether about people or situatuion.

    He is also hot-headed.

  • The fanbase's divided opinion of him is part of the reason he's my favorite character and what I believe is one of Telltale's best characters.

  • If it makes you feel better, I understand his behavior in Season 1 but his selfishness is what irked me. Basically spat at Lee after all the latter had done for him....

  • I have a love/hate relationship with Kenny. He annoyed the hell out of me in Season 2 and at times in Season 1. I do like his take-no-sh*t direct approach, but sometimes he is more argumentative than anything. He got beat up by Carver for mouthing off, not for protecting Clementine. I'm not saying he deserved it, only that sometimes you need to know when to hold your tongue. Antagonising crazy people is never a good idea! He had to be coaxed into helping Rebecca. Also, his trying to save Ben is determinant. He tried like hell to get my Lee to drop him into a walker pit and generally treated him like something disgusting on the bottom of his shoe... I know losing Katjaa and Duck would be heart-wrenching under normal circumstances, let alone a zombie-infested world, so I don't blame him for who he became though. But I don't like how Kenny fans give him a free pass on things they hate about other characters. You can like a character without making excuses for them. It's okay. Really. :-)

For me, during that critical scene in the meat locker back in Episode 2, I initially chose to help Kenny instead of Lilly, so we winded up bro-ing it up for rest the season. As Lee, I only ever tried to help the guy deal with his grief and teach him to not be such a dick, which kind of ended up working in my favor by the end when Ben stood up for himself and Kenny tried stick his neck out for him. He was pretty much always there for me in Season 1, so it made it really hard for me to hate him Season 2.

I just understood his character better than anyone else, so my Clementine was just a bit more attached to him. Besides, by the end of the season, all the other characters I liked winded up dead, and I was never really fan of Jane since she had a history of bailing on people whereas Kenny was mostly always on my side.

And you can't deny that he didn't take the radio from Clem in an attempt to save her from Carver's punishment. He might have gotten beat for mouthing off, sure, but he still took the radio from her in an effort to save her. Also, how exactly did he mouth off? Carver made it clear that he was going to kick his ass after counting down to "...three" to which Kenny responded, "Fucker."

Carver wasn't just gonna not kick his ass if he didn't say anything.

He knows when to make the difficult decisions when it's needed. Like with the Larry situation, even if most people think it's completely wrong that he's willing to kill someone, who's yet to be proven dead or alive, in front of his daughter, Kenny knew that he couldn't risk the lives of everyone in the locker or the safety of his family. It may make most people around him hate him and that's understandable, but in a life or death situation, people like Kenny are needed even if you don't like it, because they're the ones' who'll ensure the group's survival in the end. They know what has to done and aren't afraid to do it. That's way I tended to agree with him and I think most people are never able to do what needs to be done for those you love, even if at times it might be morally questionable.

Another thing that sets Kenny apart from most people, is that he doesn't care about making friends or if people like him because he's far more focused on what's really important- the survival and protection of those he cares for. That might be selfish, but for those people, he'd do anything, whether that means killing someone or risking his own life, Kenny's loyalty for the people he loves is undeniable as others pointed out. He's not a perfect person and a lot of the time, he does do the wrong thing, but that's what makes him such a relatable and great character. Is he too quick to judge? Does he have issues controlling his anger? Is he half mad and loosing his sanity? Can he be a complete dickhead? Does he have a beautiful and mystic beard? The answer to all of those questions is yes, but it's what makes Kenny who he is and probably, the most human and complex character in the whole series. He has a lot of flaws, but without those flaws, I'd doubt he'd be as half as interesting or talked about as he is.

  • I like certain things about him and I hate certain things about him. Overall he's one of my favorite characters. His character was confusing to me at times. I tried siding with him until the last dialogue option and I choose to say nothing. When I talked to him he got an attitude. Then he expects you to console him after he rages at you. And i'm like what?
