How do, you all feel about the fact we will be playing as two different protagonist.

Well the way they introduced Samantha, would be a good way to introduce the new protagonist imo.
I was seriously under the impression, while playing the Michonne series.
We where kinda forming her character, with the choices we made as Michonne. And I think it would have been really cool to play as a character.
That was introduced to us in a way like this, ofcourse I knew she wouldn't be the next protagonist when her status became determinant.
But im still abit disapointed about this, so when I saw the trailer I was just abit pissed off when i saw Javier :p

And after Samantha, got the determinant status I was under the impression the new protagonist.
Would mabybe be, Paige our one of the 400-day characters I mentioned.
Because to me, its just like there throwing away all these awesome characters, who had allot of potential.
To just introduce us to this random guy, we as players know nothing about.
And I know I might change my opinion about him when I play the game, but I still think its a bad move on telltale's part.
Because we already had two previous games, off the walking dead series its not like its the start of the game, when they introduced us to Lee.
At this point in the series, I just prefered to play as a character I already knew.
And I know we will also be playing as Clementine, but Im not a fan of her character. And I also do not like the two different protagonist thing.

Whats a good way to introduce a new character? They all start off that way, and then we get to know them.

I'm optimistic, it could be awful. But going this route opens up some cool playing options. Not only do I get to see how my play of Clem has affected her character, I get to inform her character from an outside perspective.

I do hope that the split is more 70/30 with Clem being the main and Javier being the secondary. Really dont want a 50/50 split and you can expect me to do some internet raging if she is shunted sideways in favor of this new guy.

  • Ok thats it, ill kill Javier when i get a chance and save clem instead
obviously thats what will happen and they will want us to choose which of our 2 player characters will survive

  • Well, I actually really like the idea. I don't think it's bad that they are trying to please fans. I get the Clem that I want and the people that don't like her get a new character. I would like it if the two playable characters could be at the same place at the same time so you can see Clementine from the outside like back in season 1. When you're not controlling her, you would likely be able to see what she's like because of all of your past decisions. That will be so awesome. I also am excited to learn about Javier, although I am more excited about older Clementine.

  • It was actually something I was hoping Season 3 might do by having more than one protagonist, but still having Clementine play an active role as a lead and not a side character. Also there was the thing Bigby-Wolf mentioned where some wanted to play as Clementine again and others didn't, so having two protagonists like what Tales from the Borderlands had seemed like the right call to make.

But me? I'm really happy we can play as two characters ^_^ for absolutely for no apparent reason at all other than I'm just happy.

Honestly it's not that I don't like Javier, it's just that I wanted to play solely as Clem. I fear if Javier becomes too popular they'll do this for every season onwards, and if it fails it'll discourage Telltale from trying anything new or creative/they might decide to end the series altogether.

  • It really depends on whether or not I like Javier as a character. Until we actually get episode one I'm not sure how to feel about it. Pretty excited for season 3 altogether though.

  • Judging by how they handled it in Tales From the Borderlands and Game of Thrones, I'm okay with it, as long as there's no inconsistent time for both POVs.

  • Don't worry, we weren't offended :)

We all have different likes and dislikes.

Yes, thats true I really disliked Tales from the Borderlands. And this trailer, really gave me the feeling , that they will be copying the

  • at least Lee had charisma

At one point, Lee Everett and the 400 Days Cast were also new people who we knew nothing about. I'm gonna wait and see what the story is before judging.

  • My first thought was this looks great but this is just a teaser! We'll see

  • ...Because you can tell how much charisma Javier has from a deliberately vague one minute teaser video?

  • My response was a rhetorical question; I was saying that you can't tell how much charisma Javier has from a one minute trailer, so it's unfair to make that comparrison to Lee given how little we know.

They should make season 2 DLC about javier so at least we can have a little info about him before he meet clementine...

  • As I said in another thread, I am worried about whether I'll be able to keep Clementine and Javier as two different characters with districtive choices, and as much as partly consistent personalities. You may get so immersed in the game that you might play the way you play your Javier when you play your Clem, and vice versa, if that makes sense.

  • Seems okay to me. i don;t even wanna play as Clem tho cuz we had that in season 2 and playing as a kid takes me out of immersion for a zombie game.

  • I'm pretty happy about it, to be honest. This is a great way to give everyone what they want.

  • I'm looking forward to seeing what doors it opens up. I don't think it's necessarily bad that TT is trying to please people, and to be honest I got a little tired playing as Clementine in s2. I think everyone should just keep an open mind and try not to judge or freak out too much before the game is released.

Also, if they don't introduce new characters, then that's a fast way for the writing to lose interest. I personally didn't expect to play with the same people for 3 seasons. And since Clem is older and clearly has been busy, I'm excited to see fresh faces after pretty much everyone died.

  • Did the two protagonists interact with each other? The issue I have with it is that there might be scenes where Clem is out of our control, and they have her say or do something that doesn't match up with the choice ~my~ Clem would have made. Personally, I would find that very jarring. I'm assuming that her personality when we play as Javier will be based on previous decisions, but I feel like that kills the nuances and individuality of the character. Like, my Clem is hardened, and yet I dont always choose the "hardened" response. It varies based on the situation.

  • I was thinking about this as well. I know for a fact that I will have trouble keeping them separate. Either Javier will become Clem 2.0, or he will be "sarcastic" (for instance) and I will just pick the "sarcastic" dialogue options because he is sarcastic.

As I said in another thread, I am worried about whether I'll be able to keep Clementine and Javier as two different characters with district

  • I don't think it's a bad idea. I however think it should've been another female aiding clementine. I'm personally tired of the female/male dynamic which is overdone imo. Though I might not think it's a bad idea I think it makes things easier on the player because they can just have both characters always agree. There's no free will. Both characters can be molded by the player and that's lame to me, lazy, and a cop out. Imo.

  • I don't mind it playing as both but the writing has to be good. balance has to be good however TT has shown they can to the team dramatic well with TOTB and GOT games so I am open to but has to be handle with care.

however how there switch character might be an issue. tales switch between the two characters by go backwards and the present while they are captured. with got they get a character say "i wonder how (character name) is doing" or a zoom in a tapestry. so how is the twd will do it. maybe wont be se in present day

    Thread: Opinions on multiple protagonists

I think it's great for telltale to make more games with more than one protagonist since it lets you see the world though the eyes of different people with different lives.Game of thrones and Tales were really great games and the thing I liked the most about them was the different people you controlled, I've wanted telltale to do this forever with the walking dead, even though they did it with 400 days but with a whole season. I'm just wandering why some people are against there being another protagonist in season 3,it's great to try new things. Thanks for hearing me blabber for a while. Tell me how you guys feel about telltale using multiple protagonists in their games.

  • I love the idea. Loved it in TFTB, will love it in TWD <33

  • As long as we get good character development for Javier I'm ok with it, like I'm thinking maybe in Episode 1 we only play as him, get to know him, maybe show us bits of his past and at the end of the Episode we meet Clementine.

  • If we could choose who to play as he would stay a secondary character when I play. Clementine didn't really have the spotlight in season 2 imo she was just there to solve things or do things and made only a few important choices.

  • I like that they chose to make us play two protagonists like TFTB,also I think that the focus of the first episode will be the first encounter between Javier and Clementine

  • Mixed feelings. I like it, especially in Tales of the Borderlands, but I don't know how well it will mix in a more "serious game" (i.e: the Walking Dead).

  • I think It will be awesome and cool.

Clem and Javier - I already see great CO!

  • Introducing a random character is not a bad idea at all.

  • I think it should please everyone. Some people didn't like the idea of playing as Clementine again after S2, now they have Javier. And those who wanted to play as Clementine again get to do so as well.

  • In the end, either the characters will appear too similar, or the player too inconsistent. There is no getting around that. But it's already happening, so I better start deciding which poison to choose.

  • i think it works out well for people who want to play someone else instead of clem have their wish and the ones who want to continue clementines story like me can do that everyone should be happy about that now we got clem they got javier to play

  • If they use them both in unity, like in order to solve puzzles, i feel they can make something special out of two playable characters. Perhaps Javier could be the one who beats the shit out of zombies while clem uses her crafty brain to solve problems or puzzles. Would be a fun duo. Switch characters based on what needs to be done.

I think it's completely fair, to be honest. It adds diversity to people who don't want to play as Clementine and people who do.

And if Javier turns out to be an awesome character, then it's a win-win for everyone. But for Javier to be a "good" character...

...Wouldn't that have to depend on you since he's playable?

  • clementine first javier after

  • I feel like this gonna turn out to be similar to how it was in Tales from the Borderlands, which was also an awesome game. Really looking forward to see how this works out in the 3rd season of The Walking Dead.

  • This would be pretty fun, reminding me of switching between Link and Kafei in Majora's Mask.

If they use them both in unity, like in order to solve puzzles, i feel they can make something special out of two playable characters. Perha

  • I'm a fan of it, and I prepared for the possibility after Tales 'n Thrones did it. It really is the best of both worlds, worst of none imo. Clementine is still my favorite telltale protagonist, even if the story around her is sometimes questionable.. but I also miss bustin' brains like I could with Lee and Michonne, and now it'll make sense when everybody hits me with the "What are we gonna do now??" look.
