[Talk to Rell and Tedyn] Lets give new characters a chance to introduce themselves and learn their point of view, which could be interesting and who knows, helpful for both brothers.

[Keep him around] God only know what a man like Irving can do if we left him alone,I think that it's more safe keep him around..at least if he start to do another stupid act we are sure to be there to stop him

[Talk to Rell and Tedyn] Even if it would be more logical talk to Hjalgar since he is a friendly face I think that Garthon (and expecially we,the readers)need to know what other characters think now (plus I suppose that Garthon still have plenty of chances to talk with Hjalgar during the travel).

    Random Thoughts!:

    • Maya part was really...spooky
    • Let's see if I remember correctly...Rell Vessels is the man that act as second in command/friend of Harmund Hoare during their fish hunts inside the Riverlands,am I right?
    • Since Torvin has basically accept his dark side now I'm curious if he still is a PoV (I hope so)
    • Was Durren Stallhart already introduced inside the story?Maybe during the war council where we meet for the first time Damon and Kyra Greyjoy?

PS:If I read correctly the captains of the Iron Fleet for this happy mission are:

    1. Durren Stallhart (3 longships)
    2. Cleaver Clint Volmark (1 ship)
    3. Edward Anturion (1 ship)
    4. Torvin Breaker (1 ship)

  • [Send Irving away] Sorry fans of Irving >:) Seriously though, his track record sucks hard.

[Talk to Hjalgar] I think making the bond with potential friend stronger is more important than making sure if these two dickheads are enemies or not. I'm okay with being outvoted in this though, since I am also interested in Rell.

Great parts! I especially enjoyed seeing the Breaker bros again - I think that might be my favorite storyline atm.

[Talk to Rell and Tedyn] Don't like Hjalgar, hope to like the new people more.

  • [Keep him around] I love Irving! I can't send him away. He screwed up a lot, yes but he has his uses. There was that time with the bow. That was a life saver. Sending away people who are loyal is a bad move.

[Talk to Rell and Tedyn] Let's try and make nice.

  • Maya part was really...spooky

Hah, that's what I was aiming for. Horror is not a genre I am usually able to write with FoT, so I gladly took the opportunity to have a somewhat spooky part for once. By now, it should also be clear that something is seriously not right in the archive.

Let's see if I remember correctly...Rell Vessels is the man that act as second in command/friend of Harmund Hoare during their fish hunts inside the Riverlands,am I right?

Indeed, he is Harmund's friend and accompanied him during their hunts, as seen in Chapter 4. Since Harren Hoare publically disapproved of this practice, Rell was facing punishment and he was sentenced to accompany the Breaker brothers during this dangerous raid.

Since Torvin has basically accept his dark side now I'm curious if he still is a PoV (I hope so)

Yes, he is still a PoV. For narrative reasons, he had no part of his own in the last chapter and since their storyline in the current chapter is planned to be relatively short, he won't have a part in this chapter either, but he will return in the next, which should show you just how much he has changed.

Was Durren Stallhart already introduced inside the story?Maybe during the war council where we meet for the first time Damon and Kyra Greyjoy?

You assume correctly! Durren Stallhart was introduced during the war council, together with the Greyjoy siblings, Simon Vessels and Alynne Hollard. He was the one that got along the most with Torvin, though he wasn't seen ever since. If Garthon would have rejected Harren's offer in the early Chapter 6, he would have visited them in the cells though and would have openly admitted his disappointment towards Torvin. This was a scene I had planned, but was unable to build in and as a result, Durren's screentime has been severely limited. But he will have another appearance in person in Book 1 and I hope he makes quite the impression.

PS:If I read correctly the captains of the Iron Fleet for this happy mission are:

Yes, these are the ships with their captains. Durren however is not accompanying them to Raylansfair, but he has his own mission. Originally, it was meant to be Torvin's mission as well. There was one choice in Chapter 5, where Torvin was able to choose if he would rather raid Lannisport with Damon Greyjoy and the Iron Fleet, or if he would raid the Northern Rock with Durren Stallhart. He decided for the latter, though his failed attempt at kingslaying prevented this from ever happening. Since they have the same general direction, Durren will accompany them for a while, though eventually he will separate to pursue his own targets, the villages of the Northern Rock.

  • [Send Irving away] I really like Irving, he has to be one of the funniest characters so far. However, I want to see some character devolpement and seeing Maya kick him out will be super interesting! Hopefully he still stays as loveable as he is though and doesn't turn into a Darth Vader, but if he does that would be interesting.

[Talk to Rell and Tedyn] No more Hjalgar. He has been around so much. I want to learn more about Rell and if he is a bad guy or just acts like that when around Harmund. Maybe he has some depth to him besides Harmund's sidekick minion dude.

Hi John, always nice to see you around! What can I say, it seems you have accidentally voted on a very old part here XD This particular part is from December and the voting is long closed. In fact, you have even voted on it before, though from your reasoning for Maya's choice, I assume you meant to vote for the most recent part now, is that correct? I'll just count your vote as one in favour of keeping Irving around then :)

Good to see you too, Liquid! I know it has been a while once again, but I think I can finally read and vote regularly because school's out.

And I just noticed... wtf? XD yeah, that vote was meant for the most recent part. I don't know how I got over here, I read the first Maya part and then voted for that, then I guess I somehow glitched or something, lmao. Anyway, for the Garthon part, I want to vote for [Talk to Hjalgar]. Thanks for pointing that out lmfao

Plus I just realized, choosing Irving for the lookout was already all the way in December? Damn, funny how I voted for this part considering the latest part with Maya and Irving. Why did I choose Irving for the lookout? XD

  • Now that is great to hear, welcome back! And well, it's a weird glitch. Stuff like that happens. Your vote has been counted in any way, for both options.

And you're right, it is pretty funny how you voted exactly for this part, considering that the events in Maya's most recent part are a direct consequence of your decision back then. It's safe to say that choosing Irving as the lookout back then has backfired.

Maya is going to send Irving away

Garthon is going to talk to Rell and Tedyn

The first choice... ah, I was expecting this to be a close choice and ultimately it was. Irving screwed up without a doubt, yet at the same time his loyalty is out of question. Maya knows this as well and it is going to be hard for her to send him away. The next Maya part is probably going to be quite emotional, for her and for Irving. And well, all I can say about Irving is that you haven't seen the last of him. It remains to be seen how this incident is going to change him, but he is naturally going to be heavily affected by it and will gradually realize just how much he screwed up during this mission. Perhaps it'll change him for the better, perhaps it'll change him for the worse, but it'll change him. Meanwhile, I like Garthon's choice from a writing standpoint. While I would have liked to reveal something of Hjalgar's backstory, I gladly take the opportunity to develop the less developed characters of Rell and Tedyn instead.

The next part is hopefully going to be out today. A quick note: If I don't manage to finish the part today, I am afraid it won't be out until Sunday. The reason for this is, it's my birthday tomorrow and I'm going to celebrate with the family and later on with friends on Saturday. This means, it is very likely I won't have much time to write the next two days. However, I hope to finish this part today. It is going to include PoV's from Arthur and Richard. Originally, I have planned Arthur and Marak, but I feel like Marak will work better together with Ellena's next part, so they'll be featured together in the part after this one. The last time we saw Arthur and Richard was also the first time in the current chapter. Arthur, together with two other guardsmen, Valarr and Aldus, was awaiting the arrival of a merchant from White Harbour, a certain Helenys Bellward, who has important business to discuss with Harris. She arrived, together with her servant Aren Charlton. While Helenys wanted Arthur to escort her to Harris, she made the problem of handing Aldus a box he was supposed to deliver to her room. Said box contains her pet, a sweet, cuddly manticore, which is about the most dangerous pet imaginable. Obviously, Aldus was about to panic, so Arthur decided to take the box instead and to give Aldus the far less dangerous task of escorting Helenys to Harris. Meanwhile, Richard met up with the farmers at Roman's farm. There was his neighbour Roman, together with his farmhand Axell, as well as the farmers Hal, Ed and Than. Of course, Vaasrand of Lys, the monster hunter, was present as well and the group ventured to the forest, where Vaasrand hopes to find and slay the beast. During their journey, Richard got increasingly fed up with Roman antagonizing him, so he decided to seek a conversation with Vaasrand and Axell, who walk in the front of the group.

  • Arthur

With a sigh, Arthur took the box from Aldus' hand. The young man immediately stopped shivering and he gave Arthur a thankful smile. “I think it is not the best idea to give Aldus this box”, he explained to Helenys. “I take it your manticore is very important to you, so I would prefer to take care of it myself”

This seemed to please the older woman and a kind smile formed on her face. “Very well, you bring up a good point”, she agreed. “Then this stately young man will bring me to Lord Harris” With these words she walked next to Aldus, who nervously linked arms with her. “Aside from that, I wish to speak to the commander of the city guard as soon as possible”

Arthur gave her a nod. “Very well, Lady Helenys!”, he assured her and looked over to Valarr. “Valarr, make sure that my father will head to the castle” The other guardsman saluted half-heartedly, though he immediately followed the order, turned around and walked down the path to the city.

Helenys glanced after him, before she turned back to Arthur. “Treat my little one with utmost care”, she ordered him. “And follow Aren. He knows how this works” She pointed at her young servant, who was just now walking around the carriage, with a large bag under his arm. “Aren, try to find the housekeeper. We are expected, so there should be rooms ready”

Arthur sighed at her sentence. “About the housekeeper...”, he said. “She has been murdered a few weeks ago” This time, Helenys raised both eyebrows. “A murderer in the castle?”, she said and Arthur quickly shook his head. “We already found the man who did this. Actually, he's going to get hanged this evening”, he assured her. “If you want to watch him, come to the centre of the city in a few hours”

Helenys shook her head. “While I'm glad he's no danger anymore, I have to decline”, she said politely. “I've never been fond of watching public executions. It's little more than cheap thrills for the smallfolk and rather distasteful on top. Besides, it's been a long journey from White Harbour and there's work to do” With these words, she looked at Aldus. “Young man, bring me to Lord Harris”, she ordered.

Meanwhile, Arthur started to walk after the servant, Aren. The young man walked at a firm pace, though he slowed down for Arthur to catch up as they reached the courtyard. “So, where are we going?”, he asked and Arthur pointed towards a building in the distance. “The servant's quarters”, he answered. “Halla, the former housekeeper, hasn't appointed a successor before her death, so the position lies vacant, though any kind of servant should be good enough to appoint a free room for Lady Helenys”

“Lead the way then, Ser”, Aren told him and Arthur took the lead, approaching the servant's quarters. Aditha was more familiar with those who worked there, but Arthur knew a few of her friends. Hopefully, one of them would be able to help.

In the distance, Arthur saw a strange gathering. He recognized a couple of knights, Ser Leonard the Stately and Ser Darren the Bold. Harris was with them as well, though something was not right about him. He knelt on the ground, as if he was a prisoner. Next to him stood a tall knight, the crowned stag of Durrandon prominently displayed on his chest. Neither of them were paying attention to the newcomers, as their grim faces were directed to the walls, from where two people approached. From the distance, Arthur couldn't recognize them, he only saw a woman with black hair and a yellow dress, walking next to a man with blonde hair.

“Who is this?”, Aren asked out of curiosity and Arthur sighed. Even if he was too far away to make out any detail, he knew who this woman was. “A problem”, he answered. “A Stormlander princess and her army. I'll explain it later. Let's just say, Raylansfair is in some trouble right now”

Aren gave him an understanding nod, though he noticeably paused once Arthur mentioned the princess. “I thought that much, Ser”, he agreed. “Though don't be afraid. Helen has good intentions for this city. What she and Lord Harris have planned, it'll help Raylansfair”

Arthur raised an eyebrow, not necessarily convinced, though he remained silent.. He didn't know anything about Helenys, but he knew she was a merchant. The merchants he knew were first and foremost interested in gaining personal wealth. Arthur just wondered what Helenys would gain from whatever deal she and Harris had made. It must be something tremendous, or else she wouldn't have travelled all the way from White Harbour in person.

With this thought, Arthur entered the servants quarters. During this time of the day, the quarters were empty as usual, with most of the servants out to do their daily chores. The death of Lady Halla hasn't changed anything about it. According to his sister, who had friends among the servants, the former housekeeper's death was even seen as a blessing by many.

Still, Arthur had hopes to find an idle servant, hopes that were quickly crushed when he and Aren walked around the hallway, to find the servant's quarters completely empty. “Surprising”, he commented. “Even with a foreign army in their castle, they are still as busy as always, perhaps even more”

“Why does it surprise you?”, Aren asked. “With dozens of soldiers around, the last thing a servant wants to do is to appear idle” He glanced at the door and then back at Arthur. “So, where are we going next?”

Arthur sighed and thought about his answer for a moment. “Directly to the guest rooms. Perhaps we'll meet someone on our way who can help us”, he said. “If not, we'll just take a free room and deal with the formalities later” He glanced down at the box in his hands. The manticore inside was calm, for now, but he had heard stories about this sort of beast. As small as it was, it could kill a grown man in seconds and being uncomfortable around it was a natural reaction. He couldn't help but wonder how Helenys ended up with such a creature.

Once again, he led Aren through the castle. As Hackor Nathamer's son, he had been here often enough and he knew his way around quite well. As such, he quickly walked through a number of hallways, up a set of stairs and around a corner. Roughly a minute later, they had reached their destination, the hallway where the guest rooms were located. The doors to the rooms were located to their right, while to their left, Arthur saw windows that allowed for a view out into the courtyard, which was empty by now.

The hallway wasn't entirely empty. To Arthur's relief, he saw a young woman standing next to one of the doors. She was a remarkable beauty, with long, dark brown hair and a face that seemed almost too beautiful for the common, green dress she was wearing. The moment she spotted the two men, a surprised look appeared in her crystal blue eyes. Arthur saw something else in her eyes as well, a surprising, yet appealing intelligence.

“Can I help you with anything, Ser?”, she asked, her voice showing that she quickly regained her composure after being surprised by them. She spoke a bit louder than necessary, something she seemed to realize, since she continued in a way more normal voice as Arthur and Aren walked closer.

“Hopefully”, Aren answered. “We are here on orders of Lady Helenys Bellward, a merchant from White Harbour who is here as a guest of the castellan, Harris Flowers. She arrived recently and wishes for a guest room for herself and her belongings”

Arthur noticed that the woman seemed reluctant for a moment, though she eventually sighed and gave them a nod. “Come with me then”, she said, as she turned around. Arthur glanced at the door she had been standing at, before he followed.

“What's with the door you've just been standing at?”, he asked. The young woman looked over her shoulder and raised an eyebrow. “What about it?”, she asked in return, with the hint of a smirk on her face. “I was wondering whom it belongs to”, Arthur continued to explain, as the woman stopped in front of another door. “I believe it is Lady Sherryl's room”, the woman answered and opened the door. “This way. It's one of our finer rooms, I'm sure Lady Helenys will find it suitable”

“Lady Sherryl's room?”, Arthur asked, as her words sparked his curiosity. “What exactly were you doing in front of Lady Sherryl's room?” The woman flashed him a gorgeous smile, as she walked past him closer than necessary. Her hand slightly touched his forearm as she moved. “Are you interrogating me?”, she asked in return and Arthur quickly shook his head. “What?”, he stuttered, as she took a step away from him. “No, of course not, mylady. I did not wish to upset you”

“As expected”, the woman answered, as she turned around, to walk back down the hallway. “Though I'd be the last one to resist an interrogation, Ser” She glanced over her shoulder, a sly smirk on her face. “If the city guard has any questions as to why I was standing idly during my shift, then you can always send word to the castle", she told him, as she walked down the hallway. "In that case, I'll come to the guard headquarters as soon as possible. Just ask for Saerya”

Arthur looked after her until she was out of sight. Aren's polite cough caused him to turn towards the young servant. “The box, the manticore”, the young man explained as Arthur just looked at him in a baffled state of mind, before he finally understood these words. He quickly entered the room, in order to retain a bit of his dignity.

“Yes, yes of course”, he answered, as he carefully put the box onto a small table inside the room. He took a deep breath, as he watched Aren putting the bag he had been carrying onto the large bed. Glancing towards the door, the short period of silence between the two men alreay started to become uncomfortable for him, though he was unsure how to break it. Perhaps now would be a good time to ask about this plan Helenys had for Raylansfair and how it would benefit the city. Though, Arthur had to admit that this would be a rather crude way of starting a conversation. Perhaps it would be better to learn more about Aren himself instead, if only so that he would appear less inquisitive.

[Ask Aren about Helenys' intentions] [Ask Aren about himself]

    Richard

Richard fastened his pace, to get past Roman and to catch up with Axell and Vaasrand, who were talking. Actually though, Richard noticed that Axell was doing most of the talking, while Vaasrand remained distant and silent, answering mostly with single words. By now, they had reached the dark forest and the hunter entered it without hesitating.

“So, the second sword, is it in case the first one breaks?”, Axell asked. “Smart!” Vaasrand shook his head. “The first one does not break”, he clarified and moved his hand over his shoulder, to slightly unsheathe it. Richard gasped, as he noticed the dark, slightly shimmering steel. “Valyrian Steel”, he remarked and the expression on Vaasrand's face changed to something that resembled a smirk. “It is”, he answered. “There are many creatures, or monsters as you'd call them, that can only be wounded with Valyrian Steel”

“I think I understand. Though, if the first one does not break, why the second sword?”, Richard asked. This time, it was Axell who answered. “Oh, I've heard Roman talking about this. One's for monsters and the other one for humans, isn't it?” Once again, Vaasrand shook his head. “No”, he said calmly. “They're both for monsters”

Axell had an impressed look on his face and even Richard had to admit that he felt safe as long as this experienced hunter was around. Perhaps it wasn't a bad idea from Roman to hire him. Vaasrand's entire demeanour made it clear that he wasn't interested in a discussion though. Richard couldn't blame him. He was a professional, here only for the coin.

Instead, Richard decided to talk to Axell. He knew the man for a while now, ever since he started to work as Roman's farmhand and he always regarded him as way more approachable than his employer. Still, there was a lot he did not know about this man, aside from the fact that he came from the North and arrived in Raylansfair a little over a year ago. “So, how has your day been, Axell?”, he asked.

The younger man smirked. “I've been dragged to the forest to slay a beast, side by side with a legend”, he said. “Not quite an ordinary day, I'd say” His words caused Vaasrand's attention. “Legend, you say?”, the hunter remarked and seemed almost amused at these words.

Axell shrugged. “Well, those were Roman's words when he described you, Ser”, he explained. “Though, with your experience, there has to be some truth to it” While Vaasrand's almost emotionless face still showed the hint of amusement, Richard had to raise his eyebrows. “I'm not an educated man, but I've never heard of you before”, he interjected and now, Vaasrand outright smirked, if only for a second.

“Doesn't surprise me”, he answered. “I've been mostly active in the east. Qarth. Yi Ti. Asshai and Carcosa. I suppose I have a reputation there, but I am new to Westeros” He paused, as he looked around the forest. “I'm not even sure how long I'll stay here”, he added. “I found the work to be incredibly hard to come by. There's little in these lands your lords can't kill for you”

“So that's why you agreed to take us with you”, Richard deduced and Vaasrand gave him a nod. “I prefer to work alone. Or at least not with a group of peasants” Richard looked over his shoulder, to the other members of his group. There was Roman, dour and broody. Ed walked next to him in silence, though his eyes wandered around, looking for potential danger. And behind them, Richard saw Hal and Than. Right now, Than was laughing brightly at something Hal had told him.

With a smirk, Richard turned back to Vaasrand. “They are good men”, he stated. Vaasrand shrugged. “It's not my place to judge this”, he answered. “But if you were insufferable, I wouldn't have objected to you running to your doom”

“Thank you... I guess”, Richard remarked and looked around. By now, they had long left the edge of the woods behind. They were in the darker parts now, where tall trees stood close and left little room for the sunlight to reach the ground. Richard had rarely been to this part of the forest and it always gave him a bad feeling to be here.

Looking to his companions, he noticed that Vaasrand was calm as expected. To his surprise, Axell showed no signs of being uncomfortable either, which was enough for Richard to mention it. “You're alright, Axell?”, he asked and the man gave him a nod. “I'm fine”, Axell answered. “Forests like this remind me of my home, near the Wolfswood. I know, some people get uneasy in places like this, but I've always enjoyed them”

“The forest itself is rarely dangerous”, Vaasrand remarked. “It's the creatures inside. What I know of the Reach sounds a lot safer than eastern forests, trust me” His words visibly sparked Axel's curiosity. “Are these eastern forests a lot more dangerous than our forests at home?”, he asked and Vaasrand gave him a nod. “All kinds of beasts dwell there. Tigers, shadowcats, wild elephants”, he answered. “Though it is still nothing compared to the lush southern jungle. Wyverns roam there and basilisks, but the worst are the insects. Wasps the size of a wolf, roaches the size of a horse”

“Now you're kidding me”, Axell interjected and Vaasrand shook his head. “Once I even had to ride one of those”, he answered, but before he could continue his tale, a sudden noise cut him off. Behind them, Richard heard the loud cracking of woods, a deep growl and a panicked scream, all over the span of just a single second.

Richard spun around, as Vaasrand already held his dark sword. Behind them, Richard saw Roman and Ed with shocked expressions on their faces. A large trail was visible on the path they came from and even though no beats was visible, Richard still heard it in the underbrush to his right, where it was dragging something with it.

No, Richard realized, not something, but someone. On the ground, heavily coughing, lay Hal. There was no trace of Than and Richard immediately realized that the beast had dragged him with it. He lost no time and rushed towards Hal. The young farmer had a look of shock on his face, his eyes were widely opened and he clutched the spear his sister had given to him. Meanwhile, Vaasrand rushed towards them as well, though instead of helping Hal, he was facing the trail the beast had left, where several bushes had been snapped off by sheer, brutal force.

“Hal!”, Richard yelled, as he knelt down next to the young man. Hal, his light brown eyes widely opened, shifted his attention to Richard. “Richard...”, he mumbled, heavily breathing and to his relief, Richard noticed that he wasn't bleeding. “Hal, are you alright? Can you stand up?” Hal gave him a short nod and as if he wanted to prove it, he started to move.

“What the fuck was that?”, Roman growled, as he glared at Vaasrand. “Where the fuck is Than?” Vaasrand glanced at him, though he immediately shifted his attention back to the forest. “Beast took him”, he deduced, which visibly angered Roman. “You... you were supposed to prevent that!”, he yelled. “Why have we even hired you?”

“To kill the beast”, Vaasrand answered dryly. He momentarily looked at Hal, who was standing again, still in a state of shock, but physically unharmed. “It's fast, faster than a shadowcat. Knocked one of us down and grabbed the other one, who also happens to be the youngest and weakest of the group. Then, it rushes off into the forest” His facial expression hardened. “That was an ambush”

“Ambush?”, Roman yelled. “What kind of a monster lays an ambush?” Vaasrand looked at him, sternly, though Richard saw that the hunter was more cautious than before. “Here in Westeros, there's only one sort that deploys tactics like that”, he answered. “Humans”

“It... it was no human”, Hal stuttered. “I have seen it, Ser Hunter. It was large, larger than a horse and it had black fur. Haven't seen anything else, it happened so fast...” He was interrupted by a spine-chilling sound. From the deeper woods to their right, where the beast had dragged Than off to, Richard heard shrill, panicked screams of agony.

“Than!”, Hal yelled and Axell rushed forwards, only to be hold back by Vaasrand. “What are you doing?”, Axell asked. “We have to save him!” Vaasrand shook his head, as he pushed Axell back. A second, even louder scream sounded and finally, the hunter sighed. “I will save him”, he growled. “You will stay where you are. This beast, it clearly tries to lure us into a trap” He shook his head. “It makes no sense. From the size, a grown direwolf would fit, but they don't act like that either. And I've never seen one acting so fast”

The hunter clenched his fists around his sword. “I don't like this, but one of you needs to come with me. I'm not walking into this trap without someone to watch my back”, he growled and his gaze fell upon Richard. “You, Richard Harking. Follow me, hurry!” Now, he glared at Roman. “And you, make sure that the rest stays exactly here. No one walks off alone and no one plays the hero, understood?” He didn't even wait for Roman's answer, as he started to rush into the deeper forest.

Richard was about to follow him, when suddenly, someone held him back. He glanced over his shoulder, to see Hal. The young man, though still in a state of shock, had a determined look on his face. “Richard, I must come with you”, he urged him and Richard looked at Vaasrand, who already entered the underbrush. “Vaasrand said...”, he started, but Hal cut him off. “I know what Vaasrand said. No one walks off alone. But I have to come with you, please”, he begged. “Than is my friend, I have to help him! I can't just stay here doing nothing!”

[Ask Aren about himself] Might as well. Another thing ruined by jailing Harris.

[Leave Hal with the others] He's "fine".

    Ser Leonard the Stately

Glad to see Leonard is still respected.

Hopefully the beast screws Roman up even more.

  • [Ask Aren about himself] Dang Nabbit, why did we rat out Harris? Hopefully Arthur can fix this some how with Hackor. And It may be better to befriend Aren instead looking like a nosy jerk. If we become friends we could possibly get a insider's view of Helen's plans. And he seems like a pretty okay guy.

[Allow Hal to come with you] I don't trust leaving people with Roman, because he seems off his handle right now and not capable of defending people. And a Than and Hal bromance would be cool.

[Ask Aren about himself] Let's be smart

[Leave Hal with the others] I think that Roman team need more support than the Geralt one

    Random thoughts:

    • I like the Saerya moment during the Arthur part
    • Now I'm even more curious to discover what is "The Beast"
    • Leonard and Darren titles is something that I've forget!XD

The death of Lady Halla hasn't changed anything about it. According to his sister, who had friends among the servants, the former housekeeper's death was even seen as a blessing by many.

Poor Halla, she was the favourite character of all the readers of this story!XD

“Oh, I've heard Roman talking about this. One's for monsters and the other one for humans, isn't it?” Once again, Vaasrand shook his head. “No”, he said calmly. “They're both for monsters”

"No" he said "even if I'm basically a copy of a Witcher doesn't mean that I am one"

[Leave Hal with the others] Hal's not thinking straight. We have a plan, we need to follow it.

Everytime Saerya speaks I love her even more!

    Epic.

On the other way, humans can be monsters too, so his answer could mean both ideas after all.

Judging by your reactions, it appears Saerya is generally a well-received character, which I'm not unhappy about. In fact, I find her to be quite fun to write, so it's nice to hear that I seem to succeed at what I'm aiming for with her :)

Now I'm even more curious to discover what is "The Beast"

There is definitely going to be a twist when it comes to the beast and I'm trying to hint at it. By the end of this chapter, things should make more sense.

Leonard and Darren titles is something that I've forget!XD

I'm not even sure if Darren has been mentioned by his title before. The last time Leonard has been mentioned as 'Leonard the Stately' was way back in Chapter 1 and I actually only remembered it because I read through their respective character submissions while writing this part.

Poor Halla, she was the favourite character of all the readers of this story!XD

Yes, such a well-liked fan favourite XD Unfortunately, the characters in the story mostly loathed her, for pretty good reason and in fact, her overly strict ways of leading the household as well as her fondness for corporal punishment limited the productivity of many servants. Jenna for example was genuinely held back in her true potential as long as she cowered in fear of Halla and others had similar problems.

Actually, while it is probably not a direct quote, it is explained in the Witcher novels that both swords are indeed for monsters. Some are vulnerable to silver, while some (not only the metaphorical human monsters) are vulnerable to steel, though the games simplified things a bit by making one sword exclusive for monsters and the other one exclusive for humans. So, Vaasrand is still basically a model Witcher, just minus the superhuman skills. I like to imagine that everytime he speaks, the 'Silver for Monsters' theme from the Witcher soundtrack plays in the background.

    Warg/werewolf/werebeast.

Funny actually. Saying 'warg' could refer to the wolf-like creatures Orcs ride, or a person controlling an animal.

Well,I hope that at least he doesn't share the same backstory!XD

  • I'm beginning to wonder if the beast is somehow related to whatever was fucking with Maya in the archives. Might even be one and the same.

  • [Ask Aren about Helenys' intentions] Might as well try...

[Leave Hal with the others] Better to follow the expert's instructions. And what the hell is this beast? :D

    Happy birthday, Liquid! :)
