Was this supposed to happen? (Season 1 Episode 5 possible glitch)

Christa and Omid came with me even though I concealed my bite. Christa then acknowledged my bite as if she didn't know about it before. I've been trying to find anyone else who's had this happen to them, but I've had no luck. (From my knowledge, they're supposed to only come with when you show the bite.) Lee's sleeve was even shown to be down in the cutscene when you go to the cancer patient's place.

This picture is of Christa finding out about the bite when Lee passes out.

Um, you didn't hear they said why they came with you? Did you leave Clementine in the house giving her the gun? They came with you because Omid owed Clem for protecting him while you were in Crawford.

  • Yes, the same happens with Kenny if you decide to just take him along. If you conceal the bite he will discover it when you pass out and try to cut your arm off but you awake the moment he is about to do it.

They said the exact same dialogue as they would if I showed my bite, and I did leave Clementine at the house with the gun. Though, every source I've seen has mentioned that Christa and Omid are only supposed to come with you if you reveal the bite. If you don't reveal the bite, Christa is supposed to say that "it's too risky" and they don't come with no matter what choices you make?

Edit: Christa never even mentioned the fact that Clementine protected Omid while she was in the house? She just acted like I showed her the bite in the first place, even though the stats showed the percentage that would come up if I didn't show the bite.

  • No. I read the wiki and said Omid and Christa come with you if you reveal the bite or if you leave Clementine in the house with a gun. I've done this scene a long time ago, trust me and they had a different dialogue.

  • Oh, that's a nice little detail that I didn't know right there!

Do you know if the same happens if you don't give her the gun, but still leave her and Omid together? If I remember correctly, she hides in one of the closets on the first floor, but I have no clue about how that influence's Omid and Christa's decision.

  • You're probably right, but the dialogue still didn't come up. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a glitch that they didn't say that. (My game is super glitchy when it comes to the transition between Episode 4 to Episode 5. There was a time where I tried only bringing Ben with and every time I opened up Episode 5, I'd be alone and I wouldn't say anything to the Stranger no matter what dialogue options I chose.) Thanks for the help, I thought my game was broken again.

  • How do you get Ben to go with you? He is the only one who chose to stay at the house in my playthrough.

  • You gotta be nice to him, or tell him that Clem stood up for him at Crawford, if she came with.

Lee rolls up his sleeve back up to look at the bite just before he passes out. Then whoever came with you ends up noticing the bite while you're out. So yeah, it's working as intended. I mean, you didn't think you'd get away with hiding that bite, now did you? They wouldn't make it that easy.

As other people have said, yes, Omid and Christa can actually come with you even if you hide the bite. It hinges on two things: whether you left Clementine at the house, and how you've treated them overall.

If you leave Clementine at the house and give her a gun, they will always come with you, even when you hide the bite.

If you leave Clementine at the house and don't give her a gun, they'll only come with you if you've been nice to them. So it's still possible to get them to come with you, just more difficult. This one's probably the most rare out of all the outcomes, and I've only had it happen one time out of multiple playthroughs.

If you bring Clementine to Crawford, they will never come with you if you hide the bite.

And finally, they will always go with you if you revealed the bite to them, no matter how you've treated them in the past, or what you did with Clementine.

  • They won't come if you left her without a gun

  • Amazing. 4 years on and i still find out something new about this great game. I always assumed Omid/Christa only went with you if you showed the bite. I had no idea they could go with you if you didn't show the bite. Thanks for the info

  • Yeah, that's pretty neat and I wasn't aware of that either. It would be pretty neat if they recreated choices/consequences like that in their newer series.

  • I know! That's why i loved season 1. They put so much effort into every single thing. Even minor dialogue choices or sometimes not even a choice, just a general dialogue line chosen. For example, at Hershel's farm if you choose "Duck?" when Kenny tells you his son's name, he'll say "yeah like water off a duck's back, nothing bothers him" and later on in episode 3, Lee will say "what happened to water off a Duck's back?" (when Kenny tells Lee that Duck was asking about the farm). Basically Lee would not say the water off a ducks back line if he hadn't said it in episode 1. It's the smallest of details that i loved about season 1
