What if.....
The post about whether you shot Lee or left him to turn sorta got my mind going. Some of the arguments go that he is dead anyways...why shoot....others argue that it is the humane thing to do.
But what if when you turn, instead of just becoming a predatory hunter, you become part of some beautiful hive mind utopia. The killing and eating everything in sight is just some basic survival your body does while you as a person are living a life of peace and beauty with everyone else in the world who is a walker. What if this apocalypse is the rapture and the kingdom of heaven was always a part of you just waiting, and now all you know is peace and good will. And even more, what if the brain is destroyed keeps you from this gentle here after? How screwed up would that be?

Then we as survivors are screwing up the utopian lives of everyone who has reanimated, assuming that they vanish from their utopia when their hosting body's brain is damaged.
On a partly unrelated note, I know that more than a few people are afraid of dying. Not because they are afraid of the process, but because they wouldn't want to become motionless. In that sense, some people might also prefer to reanimate rather than be shot in the head or put down with a sharp weapon. Becoming a walker allows them to continue "living" in a sense, sort of what Celia from Fear The Walking Dead described, instead of being trapped in a motionless corpse. What's mind-boggling is that the survivors in all of the The Walking Dead media often like to think that they are doing a favor to the walkers by killing them—you could argue that they do it because they want to continue feeling good about themselves, since most are forced to kill reanimated people on a daily basis—when in reality, they are robbing some of the opportunity to continue living, no matter if it is in the form of a walking corpse.
Well as an aside. If it were I, I would shoot someone in the brain...that is one fewer walker to contend with. But the idea of the walkers being at the same time salvation and doom of mankind is a delicious thought. Forgive the pun.
My off-topic comment couldn't go unpunished.
I'm gonna go now.
I still think they're mindless zombies but you have a cool opinion.
Interesting theory.
Your conscious mind is already established as basically dead in TWD lore operating on just the brain stem for zombies.
Spoilers for TWD TV show:
In order for your theory to be true you'd need magic woo woo spirit stuff.
Well yes, I think they are just a mindless force of nature. But that idea is one I am exploring in a story.
If that were the case, I would pass the offer and simply hope for someone to literally blow my brain in case I turned, sorry peaceful utopia.
That was a good one.
Goddamnit, now I kinda want to see a Duck or Sarah walker cause they'd totally enjoy the hell outta that. And I could actually laugh.
The brain thing totally circles back to depressing. though.
Lee and doug were talking about it, how all they seem to do is eat.
The movies and the games have portrayed them to be mindless zombies.
Although was it day of the dead? Where that zombie had feelings?
