Ok, let me get this straight. Javiar will not be like Luke, Lee, Kenny, Carver, or whatever you think he'll be. Javiar is Javier and we wouldn't know him well until the game release.
So I think that he would be "ordinary" character and not interesting.
How can you know that if you've only seen him for like 15 seco… morends in a teaser? Lee was also created for "new" players who did not read the comics so that more people could relate to the game. Was Lee an "ordinary" character that was not interesting? Did they have to play it safe with Lee because he was made for new players instead of people who better knew the comic source material?
Perhaps Clementine is looking for Kenny or Jane? Whoever you chose to save may have been kidnapped and that would be a way for them to be in… more the game but out of the picture long enough to not force TT to brach too much and keep people happy that who they saved isn't bumped off in the opening scenes... Javier is accompanying you as he is in debt to you (or Kenny/Jane) for saving his life? If you went alone then it's Javier looking for someone and you are accompanying him because you are in debt to him. Just snowballing here, lol.
I've only just noticed this but take a look at Clementine's hands, other than her ring finger, you can see she has a watch (or perhaps bracelet) of some sort. I like to think that since Season 1 she was actually fond of Lee's watch (who may have let her wear it occasionally off-screen especially during the timeskip between Episode 1 and Episode 2 when they were getting to know each other), and so after the events of Season 2 she managed to find her own or something like a bracelet to wear. That's just my headcanon but either way it's a nice detail and I hope we find out more about other things Clem has picked up since we last saw her.

She unfortunately left her backpack at Moonstar Lodge, though it is possible that Bonnie, Carver or Troy took it and brought it to Howe's Hardware. In that case, it is possible that Clementine reunited with her backpack if she went to Howe's with Jane, explaining how she got the new watch.
For those who kept the watch with you and stayed with Jane, you can expect a watch.
When did I or anyone talk about usefulness? If anything, Clementine probably has it for sentimental value.

I think they just reused the walker model as this was a extremely early work in progress teaser without all the assets available.
