I can't believe some of the stuff I am reading on this thread. Duck was only a child when the apocalypse started. He didn't know how to really adapt to it like everyone in the world. He may have messed up, but in all honestly, who didn't mess up in this game? And why Sarah is like that isn't her fault. Yeah, she should have been more adapted to the world after two years; however, her father shielded her from things from the outside. Sarah and Duck wasn't dumb. They just didn't know how to act during those times. I think children like Duck and Sarah made the game a little more realistic. It shows how some children reacted in the earlier times of the apocalypse.

There's always rival groups, herds, inner conflict, people turning inside the community itself and supply runs that people like Sarah aren't able to deal with (although Sarah's real downfall was the loss of a loved one). (TV Show Season 6 spoilers ahead!!!) We saw what happened to Denise, Sam, Jessie, Deanna, Reg, Spencer and Nicholas that when confronted with such problems either died or had major screw ups. Hadn't Rick's group been there, and Alexandria would've been either conquered by the Wolfs or overrun by the herd because the sheltered Alexandria Safe-Zone population wasn't ready to deal with the ZA's predicaments.

I wouldn't exactly classify them as "dumb and useless" but I got your point and well, it depends, maybe the character is just a child again, then again, it will depend on how protective people are with this person. I must say that if they got Lucky with some good place to be, if they were rich enough (I don't know) or even if they are in a strong group, weak people are not that unusual even after some years into the apocalypse. Still, I got your idea and I am kinda of hoping the same here.
