Characters you felt or feel sympthy for...?
Throughout the course of two seasons, 400 Days and Michonne, a lot of the characters sure as hell haven't had it easy, if not all of them seen in the games. Whether they've lost people they loved, were treated unfairly by others, or just simply died an undeserved death, we've seen many characters who most likely have been able to garner some form of sympathy from you.
Now, what I'm interested to know, is who are those characters? Who's made you bring out those feelings of pity, made you think "Did he/she really deserve this?", made you see the character in another light and possibly, brought out your compassionate side? Let me know and give an explanation for your views below.
I, personally, have always felt sympathetic for Kenny and how he'd lost both his wife and child on the same day. And when later on in S2, he ends up seeing his second love interest, Sarita killed. I mean, talk about shitty luck.
Another character I couldn't help but feel sorry for, was Lilly and how she was forced to watch her father's face get crushed in front of her. Again, pretty shitty luck...
But anyway, thanks for reading and be sure to leave your opinion.

Stranger
Lol Just kidding..
But honestly I felt sorry for Ben. He wasn't a bad person, he was just nervous and scared.
Ben, Sarah, Nick, Kenny and Doug.
Kenny, Doug, Ben, Sarah, Nick and Samantha.
Lily, Ben, Nick, Sarah, Rebecca, Pete, Sarita (she did not deserve that), although I dislike him I have a bit of sympathy for Kenny, and Arvo.
Avoiding characters I really like for a bit:
The Stranger made one bad call as a father and his whole world just crumbled afterwords. His son went missing during a camping trip he thought would've been good for him, his wife understandably was disillusioned by this, they went driving about in the woods with their daughter, suddenly abandoned the car (I personally believe they got in a disagreement and the wife stormed off), had most of their supplies taken, his wife blamed him and took the daughter away elsewhere, and then he found both of them dead the next day. So now, with his wife's zombified head in his possesion, he drives around seeking revenge on the group that destroyed his family on the intel from a little girl within their ranks who has met repeated dangers, all apparently to make it up to the wife whose only instinct now is to eat.
Reggie was left behind to suffer in the Cabin Group's place, lost his arm, was thrown into the pin, all because of Carver's tyrannical nature. He was only helping his friends, got punished in their absence, was ostracized by his fellow peers, and made a fool of by some of them, namely Clementine(got him in trouble numerous times), Sarah(absentmindedly called his bluff),Troy(reinforced his flimsy hope on Carver's behalf), and Kenny(who stick-neckedly encouraged Clementine to cause trouble), despite his attempts to be friendly, lighthearted, and optimistic in spite of it all. He ended up being murdered by the leader who emptily promised him redemption over a simple task that didn't get done, even though he was only supposed to be checking up on them, because of the overall neutrality, antipathy, finickiness, and negligence of Clementine, Carver, Sarah, and himself, respectively.
Jane stoically does shady and well-rounded disgusting things just to get by, has an attitude that alienates people she shouldn't even be around, and is constantly at odds with her loner nature that she only adopted because she's still bitter about her one bad day. And then the selfrighteousness comes out....
Every time I try typing this out, I always end up choosing Ben, Sarah, and Arvo, even though there are other characters I feel sympathy for.
Carley, Doug, Sara, duck, katja, Omid
Vernon? That old fuck who ruined everyone's life?
His true intententions weren't bad. Besides, he saved Omid.
He's still an old fuck who ruined everyone's lives. Even his group says so.
But he saved my Omid...
And then he robbed him.
But Omid...
Only Boyd said so, not Joyce not Clive.
You know, Vernon is sort of a close example, if you look at it from his point of view.
The guy had to hide, protect, and take care of a bunch of sick people with Cancer under the nose of a mercilessly exclusive leader with little to no supplies. Then he gets discovered by Lee, who may determinately threaten/trick him into coming along with him to help his injured friend, leaving his also sick assistant Brie to protect them in his stead. When Molly brings up that the medicine they all need could be found in Crawford, Vernon understandably has reservations at first, but eventually decides that the risk is necessary to help both of their groups. So, with help from Brie, Vernon tags along on the trip over, which results in Crawford's brutal standards and karmic demise being revealed, Lee's group members getting out of hand and fighting amongst each other, and then Brie gets brutally killed trying to keep the door barred while the group hashes things out. After a return to their meeting spot, Vernon is most likely(on your friendliest playthrough) just holding back his inconsolable attitude towards everything that went wrong: his cancer group was technically defenseless for the entire night, he lost his loyal and protective daughter-figure, he is concerned with the future of Lee's little girl after she was put in dangerous conditions whether she went or stayed, and, as a cherry on top, he is determinately disillusioned that Lee would allow one of his youngest group members to die, making him question Lee's moral fortitude. So, after likely being told to take a hike in a violently protective manner, he goes back to his group and, whether out of genuine necessity or passive-aggressive vengeance, decides that the best course of action is to ambush Lee's group and use their boat to get to safety. Months later, his Cancer group would end up as members of another location with an intolerant leader and he would be vaguely implied to have died executing his plan and has lost any favor he legitamately earned with the them.
The character I felt the absolute most sympathy for would have to be Ben, hands down. That poor kid didn't deserve half of the shit he went through. I was trying to support him the best I could through the season, especially since just about everyone else in the group didn't trust him, or acted like he didn't exist.
Other than that:
Nick
Lilly
Kenny (along with Katjaa, because losing a child is a horrible thing to go through)
Sarah
Rebecca
Arvo
The entire Fairbanks family (Sam, Greg, James, Alex, John)
Zachary
Jonas (especially if you killed Zach. I felt seriously bad for him when I did a playthrough with Zach dead)
Norma (she honestly wasn't that bad, and she really tried to keep things from going sour in episode 3. I felt doubly bad since I killed Randall, and I didn't think she deserved to have to see him like that)
The worst part about Saritas death was that no one even mentioned her afterwards. It was like she had never existed. Tragic.
ETA: and then on top of that we never really got to know her.
Luke. ;-;
I'm gonna surprise you with this one. Clementine.
Oh and Luke.
Edit: How could I forget about my man Lee?! Always in my heart.
Actually, Jane brings her up to tick off Kenny during the truck ride as an example of how everyone he loves only listens to him out of fear and weakness.
she didn't lie, but that's still not Kenny bringing her up. She was like a prop. Like a replacement for Katijaa(if that's how you spell her name)
That basically happened to everyone that died in Amid The Ruins, honestly. Literally the only good death in that episode is Sarah's first death in the trailer park.
Agreed.
Though that one does have a little narm, that's more to do with the presentation than anything about the idea itself.
I'm sorry, it took me this long to comprehend what you said. That's a bit cynical/mean-spirited, don'cha think. Though it is noticeable that Kenny doesn't bring her up much, he clearly cared enough about her to let someone give him pause for once.
Its Katjaa, btw.
I feel sorry for just about everyone. Everyone has done something in the outbreak they regret, villain or not. I just feel bad for humanity in general. They all had to endure the collapse of their society, everything they know and love, etc.
Except Carver. I'm pretty sure the outbreak was his wet dream.
Mean spirited? I guess I'm very mean for disliking a fictional character on a game.
The only point being made in both of your arguments is that Kenny got mad/made him pause. To me Kenny was really ill even before he lost Sarita. So him acting mad isn't showing he cared about her. Maybe the writers didn't write his feelings correctly, because I didn't get that he was "devastated beyond help" after Saritas death.
And sorry I forgot to lose the I in her name.
I knew you were gonna become a mod. Congrats!
The implication that someone never loved someone they lost is a bit much, but OK. Honestly, I didn't reread my own comment so I may have gotten confused at some point.
I agree that Kenny was clearly screwed up before Sarita died but I do believe he cared about her as an individual. He apparently never brought up Katjaa or Duck before Clementine showed up, so that tells me that, consciously at least, he loved/liked/whatever
Sarita for who she was and losing her just opened up the already unstitched wound some more.
Ben
Sarah
Sarita
Carley
Doug
Duck
Lee
Luke
Clementine
Kenny
Like @TheSloaningDead said, i actually have sympathy for every person as everyone has suffered some sort of traumatic event during the outbreak, some more than others but yeah, i feel sympathy for everyone, even Carver because chances are like Jane said, he may have been a nice guy at one time. It's sad how a ruined world can drastically change a person. That's why i wish people who hate certain characters would show some understanding as to why they became like this because they weren't like that before all this happened.
Squid! (Just joking... don't ban me with your Mod Powers)
I felt sorry for Russell in 400 days because he honestly had the worst time. First he was in a group of strangers without any family, and the leader turned out to be dangerous and psychotic, and never wanted anyone to leave or join the group. Then after finally escaping Steve's group, he ended up being traumatised all over again when Nate killed those old people. Not to mention having to be in Carver's group (that's if you managed to persuade him to go to Howe's). He was moral and kind, and I just think Russell deserved better.
Kenny -he was always volatile but Katjaa tempered that aspect of his nature and protecting Duck was his main goal. Failing at that and losing his anchor caused Kenny to give up on life long before his death.
Lilly -she had a strong personality which isn't always appreciated, especially in a woman. She was ostracised and under appreciated by everyone but Lee (determinate lay) when she was trying to do her best to ensure their safety. Losing her father meant she lost the only person she really knew and who had her back.
Doug -I feel sympathy for Doug for how the fan base perceived him. He is often considered a "weak" or "uninteresting" character. I disagree completely.
Mark -I shouldn't have to explain this one.....
Walter -I felt sympathetic toward Walter because he was one of the few characters in Season 2 with a non-cliche non-filler personality and an interesting concept. I was excited to see how his creed would influence Clementine and how his arc would progress but bam! ....stupid plot device death to show how merciless Carver was.
Nick -Nick showed me nothing new, but out of the two of them, he was definitely more ripe for development than Luke. His offscreen death was cheap, lazy writing too, and that pissed me off. Telltale seemed to be building toward something with Nick, then mid-story, decided not to go with it....because Kenny and Jane were the only ones who mattered!!
Bonnie -Bonnie was a tard in the lake scene and no, I was not happy when she took off after wanting to "make amends", but she was very human as a character. A flawed human being who tried to do right but when the going got tough, reverted to their most basic instinct: survival. She is relatable if not likeable to all.
Kenny. The guy just wanted to look out for his family. Then he just keeps losing some more.
Ben. Just a kid who kept screwing up despite good intentions.
Nick. I wanted to hate him for offering alcohol to Clem, but I knew he was in a dark depressed state and wasn't thinking clearly. Still the guy was alright by me.
These 3 come to mind the most not including Clem or Lee.
Um not to cause an argument but he wasn't "always" volatile
Ben , Carley, Nick , Kenny and Lily
I remembered him sulking and having an attitude every time Lee didn't side with him in Season 1. He can determinately leave Lee to die over a petty disagreement and tries to make him leave Lilly at the motel to be shot by the bandits and Ben at the bell tower to be devoured by walkers.
Sarah. I really don't at all get the hate for her, if anything, she's the most realistic character in the series. She clearly has anxiety and some form of PTSD, severe mental disorders that are very real and very scary, those issues make it hard to be in a public outlet, in a scary situation, or most importantly, a life threatening one. As somebody who has both of these issues and has dealt with them for years, I can 100% relate to Sarah, because she acts in these situations how I act in a bad situation.
I get scared, I shut down, I cry, I give up. Sarah is easily more realistic and definitely more of a tragic character than anyone in Season 2, because what happens to her could happen to millions if a zombie apocalypse were to boot up. And it kind of hurts knowing there's so much hate for her for no reason. She's a scared little girl with a mental sickness, not some asshole who got people killed by being pieces of shit like Kenny or Nick (even though I really like Nick)
I feel sympathy for Sarah because I kinda know what it's like to be in her shoes, and the hate for her is saddening to me because there is no valid reason for it.
