Favorite Telltale Walking Dead characters?

My favorites are Lee, Clementine, and Kenny! I've felt so connected with these characters as the game went on, it was as if I actually knew them as good friends! I'm so glad and excited that Clementine is returning for Season 3!

  • Mine are Doug, Lilly, Kenny and Jane (though it's more love/hate, I just feel they were very well-written, complex characters), Nick, Luke (kind of), Bonnie <3, Walter, and Shel and Stephanie from 400 Days.

There was a thread like this not too far back(four pages), but forget about it. I'll just repost my thoughts here.

Lee Everett is a character I sometimes gloss over because of vanilla protagonist syndrome but one thing Season 1 has over Season 2 is that it made sure the story was just as much about Lee as it was any other character. He was a really respectable person and one of the greats. Plus, Scumbag Lee is such a joy that Im seriously considering doing a 3rd and 4th play through just to do my own. Can't really say the same for "Edgy" Clementine.

Larry is an asshole, a bully, and a hardass. However, I'd be lying if I said he didn't crack me up from time to time and his apparent protectiveness and love for Lily made it clear that there really was charm coming out of his ass. He was the first group member to come to mind.

Brenda is probably the villain I like the most. From her natural friendliness, her welcoming voice, and her country values, she is the one main villain I recall enjoying through out her entire screen time.

Jolene is arguably the most memorable characters in Season 1: a two scene wonder. She was amusing, intimidating, tragic, and she helped set the tone for the series in general.

Shel is a character I tend to forget but her scenario and need to make sure here sister grows up right in a world like that, despite Becca's harsh demeanor, made her the most sympathetic of the 400 days protagonists.

Danny the Prisoner was the 400 days character that I liked the most. While the rape allegation did make me a little catious at first, his amicably noble personality in spite of it all made him incredibly likeable. Then again, Justin wasn't making it any harder.

Luke was a rare hero amongst a plethora of survivors, bandits, and villains. His struggle to do right by everyone, sometimes at his own cost, made him a very respectable character and very relatable to My!Clementine.

Sarah was an endearingly quirky character and the Cabin group member I felt for the most. Her character arc had a lot of potential for not only her, but Clementine, and to a lesser extent, Jane as well.

Michelle felt like she could have been Season 2s Jolene: unapologeticly thuggish and yet not without a few sympathetic traits and a story to tell. One of the things I like about her over a lot of other characters is that she's [one of, if not] the first black antagonists we've had in the games(never watched the show). When I drew that picture in posted in the Fan Art thread, Michelle was actually the one I was the most conflicted about since I knew going in that it would be tricky to get her street facade down pat. She's one of the characters I previously stated that I would've like to have seen more of, Omid's accident notwithstanding, in a Season some consider to be full of wasted characters.

    Lee Everett

    There's no competition.

    He was THE O.G.

  • Everhyone in season one besides Mark, Larry, and The cancer group

  • Lee and Clementine will always have special places in my heart.

But I also like Kenny and Alvin. Fuck I miss Alvin...

  • I will always love Alvin.
Also Lee, Clementine, Carley, Omid. Maybe Chuck too.

My top 10 favorites are Lee, Clem, Kenny, Doug, Chuck, Omid, Sarah, Pete, Alvin and Nick.

    Honorable mentions: Molly and Ben

BTW, this is off-topic, but is there a way you can get Kenny's brospeech if you save Doug? I know the only way you can tell everyone Lee's secret is that you save Carley.

In Season 1 I absolutely loved every character. The main group, the antagonists, more minor characters, you name it. I also did like a lot of the Season 2 cast.

My top three are easily Lee, Clem, and Kenny. My emotional attatchment to those three characters can be described as...abnormal. They aren't just my favorite characters in the game. They honestly make it into my top ten fictional characters ever. (Please don't kill me)

I know that "good" and "bad" writing is subjective, but I thought they were all well written. I know that some of the Clementine and Kenny writing is deemed poor by a lot of people, but I personally disagree. I do understand that a few parts were sloppy and it could've been better, but I still liked it. If they would have just made communication with Kenny optional, then I think a lot of problems would have been solved. Maybe throw in more negative responses towards Ken, then we're almost spot on.

They just feel like real people. They all have (in my opinion) realistic personalities, motives, intentions, and development. You've just been with them for a wild ride, and you know them all very well. I feel like they never (or very rarely, at the least) act out of character. I know that this can make characters boring and predictable, but in this case it makes them feel like old friends.

I'm really rambling now, so I'll just summarize a few more things quickly.

Telltale did a great job with Lee. A lot of self-insertion characters are kind of weak. Lee, however, had his own personality and arc that made him separate from the player. He wasn't me, he was Lee Everett. And that voice acting!

We took care of Clem, and we've seen her grow up. We've molded her into her own person. This made me feel very attached and invested. I don't find her bland, but I get why others could see her that way. I feel like I'm one of the few people that really really really enjoyed her in Season 2. Once again, I love the voice acting.

As for Kenny, I love the guy. I just love how you see so many different sides of him in different play throughs, and how he managed to split the fan base. I love all the varying ways people interpret him and his actions. I may not always agree with him, and he may sometimes leave me disappointed and frustrated, but he's always been there.(At least for me. I realize it's all determinant, and he can not be there for Lee a lot of the time. These are just my thoughts.) We saw him change throughout the seasons and saw how the world affected him. Gavin Hammon also does a fantastic job.

I already apologize for anything I said in here that was kind of stupid. I know I probably said at least ten dumb things.

  • I'll list my top 5, from Season 1 and 2, but I'll leave out 400 days.

    Clementine
    Luke
    5) Ben- I liked him from the beginning. I think he was one of the more realistic characters in the game. You can't expect every character to be able to keep their cool when they're facing an apocalypse. When he totally snapped in Ep.5 and went batshit crazy at Kenny, it was a great Telltale moment. Gave me chills for sure.

    4) Kenny- Kenny is one tough cookie. Sure, he had his severe depression moments, loosing all of his family and friends, being constantly reminded that he could die a horrific death at any second, it must have been tough. That's why I couldn't blame him for his mood swings. He's in a frickin 'zombie apocalypse', he more than likely has PTSD, so yeah, the violent behavior (in my opinion) was explained. I guess he did kinda 'snap' near the end of Season 2, but you know, it's ok.

    3) Lee- Lee is just great. There's no denying it. Badass, selfless, good moral compass, it's all there. The only thing bad about him is that he got bit. He's the person we all want to have by our side (Except the being bit part.)

    2) Luke- He's a lot like Lee. One of the main things that was different about him was since he was closer in age to Clementine he was more like an older brother to Clementine than a father figure. I was pretty sad when he died, but it was unavoidable.

    1) Clementine- She's like the Veronica Sawyer of the Zombie Apocalypse, (Without the murderous boyfriend. Cool, goodhearted, and has humor when needed. Also, she's extremely badass for her age. Well, more like extremely badass for her species.

  • What was wrong with Mark? I liked him...

Everhyone in season one besides Mark, Larry, and The cancer group

  • Sam is one of my favorite telltale walking dead characters because her is so interesting and her personality is like ben.

  • To be fair, the cancer group don't do much.

Everhyone in season one besides Mark, Larry, and The cancer group

  • Clementine is number one for me, maybe because she has the best character development but there's one more reason; I just like her personality, a little girl who's not afraid to speak out loud during tense situations or arguments, a little girl who maybe hasn't lost all of her hope and humanity

Paige. She's one of the most complex characters (CAN YOU FEEL THE BACKSTORY!?) In the Game, and the best one (maybe [just maybe] after Randall) in the miniseries. Telltale told us almost nothing about her (it's a shame I can't say the same thing about Sam), they SHOWED us her story. You can see how she doesn't understand Sam's attachment to her home or her sadness at her father's death. With only her facial expression you get some of her personality. It's a pity a character with so much personality and so much potential had such a small role, she was just there to tell you how amazing Sam is and to cause some friction in the end and to take care of the kids and...

    And that's it.

Let's just hope she shows up in S3. Shit. I don't even care if there's not SAMxJAVI as long as Paige comes back, with more role.

  • Well, it makes sense. A necessary evil.

An common way to add to a character is by giving them a friend or villain that they can interact with. While this can sometimes lead to Satellite Characters, it does produce some positive results. Paige essentially functioned as a non-related sign that Sam is indeed a good person, she just has a sharp edge to her that makes this difficult to see. And while they makes characters like Sam more likeable, they also get some fans of their own. After all, you like Paige, I like Sarah, and I'm sure most people also like characters in the same vein as Katjaa, Omid, Alvin, or even Becca.

  • No I wasn't. Why? I DO think she has a complex personality, it's just hard to see, because she has little screen time and she's an introvert person (Telltale didn't learn that the most introvert the character is, the more screen time they need to give him/her character development).

  • I love Paige too it's just when you said she doesn't understand Sam's sadness at her father's death that I was like "Is that sarcasm?". But nevermind, I just got a bit confused.

    I have a few favourites:

RUSSELL: Even though his appearance was short in 400 days, he came across as a moral and kind person who only wanted to be with his family. The contrast between Russell and Nate emphasised this, and even though he'd been through hell in Steve's group and was later traumatised by Nate, he still managed to stay true to his morals. I'm not sure why telltale chose to completely ignore Russell's character and turn him into some kind of thug in his brief appearance in Season 2, but he was a great character. I hope we see him again with a more developed character (though I'm not confident we will)

NICK: Nick was one of the best characters in the Cabin group, mainly because he was one of the people who actually reflected real life and how people would cope in the apocalypse. I felt like I understood Nick more than the other characters because he represented people that are often seen as 'burdens', but are actually very capable of surviving. Nick may have been depressed, but that's understandable since he had to kill his mother and watched his uncle die. He made mistakes, but was genuinely sorry and was a very moral person, and wouldn't want to harm anyone. His death was a waste of potential for his character.

NATE: Nate is one of those characters I love and hate at the same time. He was a complete jerk to Russell and unnecessarily killed the old couple, but his unpredictable nature makes him really interesting and different to any other character we've seen before. The story of his friend being killed would have been a really good story to expand on, as well as what he was like before the apocalypse. Also his lines are hilarious sometimes, and I love his voice actor, Jefferson Arca, too.

    That's my Top-Five, Though I've only played S1, 400 Days and Episode 1 of S2.

  • I... I can't help it! I can't stay away... Okay fine.

  • The BIG Three: Lee, Clementine, and Kenny.

  • Randall as a villain, Norma as a bit of both. She was such a great antagonist and she wasn't even a bad person. She tried times to resolve things peacefully, despite the circumstances.

  • I'll pass on Mark Meat im just waiting for Ben Bacon

  • Yeah, but to be fair, Vernon was supposed to be their leader and protector, like Lee is to his own group. However, Vernon apparently decided that stealing the boat was what was best for his people and thus they took it from the garage, which involved either some combination of beating up Kenny(which is admittedly kinda funny), locking up Ben, Christa, and Omid at gunpoint, or simply leaving a note apologizing for doing so.

As we find out in 400 Days, the boat plan was a bust anyway and really Vernon just traded Lee's group the trouble without even knowing it. Clive, Boyd, and Joyce would end up being a part of Roman's group at the Pitstop, with Clive and Joyce cursing Vernon and Lee for stealing with the plan and presenting the option in the first place. Boyd reminds the two that they followed Vernon's decision to screw over Lee when he just wanted to help everyone and now they're stuck in their current situation.

Now that I think about it, those three may have been killed by Roman at some point due to Stephanie, Shel, and Becca's actions having some repercussions. Poor folks. :disappointed:
