They're all placeholder models. The slide from the Amid The Ruins is pretty much unchanged from the concept art, which is why said placeholder models are still on the slide. That's the reason why all of the placeholder models are S1 characters; none of the S2 models were finalized at the time, so the concept artist subbed in silhouettes of different characters for the slide. So I've got to ask; who is that in the Amid The Ruins slide? I've heard it's Eddie but he wasn't featured due to the 400 Days cast getting their influence and appearances cut down to basically nill.
a sympathetic character writer left a "liability"character in the hands of a writing team that didn't respect "liability" characters.
To be fair, I thought the episodes Nick Breckon wrote handled the 'liability' characters pretty well. Sarah and Nick got some meaningful development in the first two episodes, and Nick in particular showed a lot of promise leading up to his determinant fate. In fact, most of the dismissive attitude towards the characters was in episode 4. Despite some of the flak episode 3 gets, it still treated its characters relatively respectively, all things considered. I mean yeah, episode 3 shoved Nick into the background, sure, but at least he didn't get an unceremonious death with no speaking lines. Sarah didn't get much screen time either in episode 3, but at least she wasn't being dismissed as dead weight and a lost cause by both the characters and the narrative itself. A lot of characters in episode 3 were still sympathetic towards Sarah, and the narrative still felt like it was painting her in a sympathetic light at the time, unlike the dismissive attitude characters had towards Sarah in episode 4, including the narrative itself.
That would be Sean Vanaman. He's a big reason I think Season 1 was so successful (he gave everyone, even unlikable characters, the benefit o… moref depth, as he described why he liked writing Lilly as a character). I believe he was asked to help draft some of the characters and plot for season 2 before he went off to start his own company (the creators of firewatch), one of his characters being Sarah.
It's why I think Sarah's arc stated off with so much promise only to flatline later - a sympathetic character writer left a "liability"character in the hands of a writing team that didn't respect "liability" characters.
But why would they swap silhouettes based on save data, and why is Eddie the only prominently*-shown 400 Days character throughout any parts of the season besides Bonnie? The Doug/Carley silhouette placement seems too deliberate to just be for placeholder use, too.

The reason for the different slides is because of the (very small) adjustments made to the original concept art. It wasn't based on save data; it was based on the platform you were playing in. And the reason they were different is because they didn't bother to update the slide on some versions of the game. Much like how they forgot to remove the decision to shoot Mike in the PS3 version for the first few hours after release.
This was the slide's original design:
The PS3 verison of the game used this slide, while the others used the current slide image, with Vince's hair edited and Clementine's pose changed. That's the version the PS3 was supposed to use, but they just never bothered to patch it out.
All of this was just blown out of proportion by people. Eddie was never intended to play a large role, the Doug/Carley placeholders were not hinting at some huge revelation. It was just old art assets that were meant solely for internal use that no one bothered to keep up to date. I'm almost 100% certain those models in the slide were supposed to be replaced by the time the game actually came out, but no one on the art team bothered to do so.
Simply put, the explanation for this whole thing is a good example of occam's razor. There's no grand story here, it's just something simple and boring that people ended up making out to be something more.
As for the save file images, it's just them reusing screenshots they already had. All of the screenshots used for save files were used as promotional material at some point, including that screenshot of Eddie, which was one of the release promo screenshots for 400 Days, along with screenshots from Vince's story and Bonnie's story, if memory's not mistaken. Again, no huge story behind it.

I remember somebody posted a Bloody towel file on the forum with S2 TWD EP3 or Zombie baby file I believe that was in the Details you may forgot thread
I believe I saw a model of the lake that someone had pulled from the files. It narrows considerably toward each end, meaning they chose the worst place possible to cross.
Honestly the whole lake/river thing was mainly a joke on my part. But I still firmly believe that the whole intention of that scene is that … moreit was too large of an area to go around, at least not very quickly.
They could have done with a better reason to cross it right then and there, though. Maybe have all the gunshots from the firefight earlier brings a herd of walkers down on them, making them have to cross it in order to get away from them? Also makes Arvo's running off more justifiable.
This was how the original slide for No Going Back looked while in development. The episode was called "Better To Sleep", and you see what ap… morepears to be Clementine walking towards that mysterious city in the background. It also looks like she's holding something (probably A.J). I firmly believe that the city was going to be Wellington, and would play a part in S2. I know there's also pictures of the other slides as well, I can't find them though.

They aren't any placeholder models. This is only a photo with the models in it. So basically this is still a placeholder texture. Only Clementine is the only model there.

Well, I think thats a reflection of the tonal dissonance of Amid the Ruins and No Going Back, as well as the whole Edgy!Clementine phenomenon, which I can't say I'm a fan of.

I think it was HatchetZombieBaby, but they say it was the animation of Clem leavin AJ in the ground and killing the walker in the ground at the end of the Alone Ending.

Clem leavin AJ in the ground and killing the walker in the ground.
Aw yes: heartbroken by Kenny's breakdown and jaded by Jane's manipulation, Clementine becomes a leprechaun pirate who'll do anything to protect her treasure.

If I'm right, you're talking about the files for episode 5 leaked. They leaked a couple days before the Ep5 trailer came out so TTG didn't change the story.
I remember this as well. He also uploaded Sarita's death. Before No Going Back, he made a video asking everyone if they wanted No Going Back spoilers as well.
Ah, I remember this. It wasn't Episode 5 though, it was episode 4.
The guy responsible had posted videos of Sarah's death and Rebecca's death about a week or so before it came out.
With the Carver appearance; In the "Next Time on The Walking Dead" bit form All That Remains it's Troy's model being used for Carver, but they were changed in-between episodes.
One day, if there's ever a leak of the original S2 script(s), I'd bet my stash of carrots that we'd be going crazy and asking for a release of this version much like the reception Resident Evil 1.5 has.
Cuz seriously, a lot of the good shit was cut out.
Oh, I'd love to play Resident Evil 1.5. The police station looked more gory with blood everywhere and the zombies looked and sounded scary from what I remember seeing before too. Everything was more cleaner in the final version of RE2, and the station resembled more of a mansion layout again...and no toilets! NONE!
What would they call the one for The Walking Dead though, Season 1.5? XD Quick, somebody break into Telltale headquarters and find that script!

Same! It would've drastically changed the series but holy crap does it look good! It looks so much more intimidating, the zombies in it were tougher than the first RE! o_o I've been researching the beta game for many years, I've even found concept art of the original monster birkin. The one similar to the final was able to take his arm off and it moved on its own.
Not only that but here's the more earlier version of what he would look like, based on Golgotha and Salem. One of the concept art images released this year.

There was the account of Mike's voice actor saying in an interview that Mike was originally supposed to be Ralph, one of the guys that corne… morered Christa by the river, which is why their models look so similar. Somewhere down the line, telltale decided to scrap the idea, slightly modify Ralph's model, and make him a new character.
Personally I wish they kept Mike as Ralph. It would have helped that theme of gaining trust, make his betrayal more poignant, and possibly give us a clue to Christa's whereabouts.

Hnngh I have so many good things to say about this guy, but he severely overestimated the crew of S2.
There's someone behind Clementine aswell.

DAMMIT, TELLTALE!
Oh. Well shoot, here I was hoping for some grand scheme or something. Ah well, thanks anyways.
At least the whole experience had taught us a valuable lesson.
Never presume that the title slides holds more meaning that what's shown to us, sometimes what we see is what we get.
It was "Rebecca_Bloody_Towel" I believe. I don't quite remember the zombie baby one.
I believe I saw a model of the lake that someone had pulled from the files. It narrows considerably toward each end, meaning they chose the worst place possible to cross.
I'm curious how many people were annoyed he's in Season 3 considering all the AJ hate threads I've seen. :-P
I always wished the group had went into that town Clementine saw from the observation deck.
Glad we cleared that up. I kind of thought people were overanalysing it a bit.
They aren't any placeholder models. This is only a photo with the models in it. So basically this is still a placeholder texture. Only Clementine is the only model there.

I'm pretty sure that was just a place holder. What @Dont_Look_Back had in mind was this model.
Don't textures alone have strange folds coming out of their faces because that's what they wrap around the model's head?
Nice plastic mustache there, Carver.

Tavia?
The head seems to small to be Tavia's.
Just—why!
I re-uploaded it on imgur. Should work for everyone now.
Well, we're both right it was a placeholder that was Troy.

Your boy's got a theory; what if that city in the background is where Clementine goes...
IN SEASON 3 (I am fully aware of the multiple endings dilemma.)
By the way, was looking for something to post here when I found the interview in question.
"You go to rob somebody and you get shot--that's terrible!"
The implied rivalry between Luke, Alvin, Carlos and Carver is never really expanded upon.
Agreed! As if her hat would really have stayed on her head after she fell into the river!
Was this seriously how he was gonna look?
Something that gets brought up for the sake of being brought up is Clementine and Carver being supposedly alike.
