Luke alternate scenario.
Now I know a lot of people had problems with Luke and how he lamely died at the lake. Someone had a theory a while back about how he had faked his death at the lake to escape from the group. Now this obviously didn't happen but the more I think about it, the more I think him somehow faking his death to get out of the group would have been a good storyline. Below are some possible reasons why he would have done this... hear me out now.
1) Luke said early on in the game that family was the most important thing to him. After all of the cabin group members died, I honestly don't think that he saw any of the remaining characters as family, or even having the potential to be like family to him.
2) The nice guy shtick, which was a problem many had with him, would have been completely blown out of the water (no pun intended) whilst not really turning him into a villain or even unlikeable.
3) Unlike Jane, he wouldn't have been leaving because he considered the group broken or incompetent but rather because he felt that there was nothing more left for him there.
4) Luke was losing it a bit towards the end. Fucking Jane whilst he was supposed to be looking out for walkers and generally being a bit more cranky than usual tells us that he might not have been thinking clearly.
This would also leave the option open for Luke to return in future games. Anyone who has any other ideas on what they could have done with Luke's character, or more possible reasons why he would fake his death, feel free to share them.

Yep. Looks alive to me.
I don't mean to be rude, but that is kind of ridiculous. How would he go about doing it? Would that be before or after he got injured? Unless he didn't get shot, it's not plausible for him to want to be alone. He had a gunshot wound that hampered his ability to get around and would eventually need medical attention, if not amputation (worst case scenario). If the others thought him dead, they would (realistically) strip him of his weapons and anything else of use he had, leaving him injured and unable to defend himself. Nope. I don't see that working out for Luke AT ALL.
Mate i'm not saying that there is any possiblity that he is alive based on what actually happened in the game. This is purely hypothetical.
K pal.
Not to mention high as a kite.
Yeah I admit that how he would do it would be pretty hard. I'm sure someone could come up with something though. This would be after he got injured I think just to add to the drama ( lmao don't ask me how exactly he would do it again ok). The plan was that he wouldn't leave the group with the intention of wanting to be alone forever exactly but just wanting to get away from this group in particular and find another one.
Oh sorry, I can't here you, I'm too busy HOLD-ing my sides.
Oh, goodness, I'm dying!
At least we know who this is now.
(Can somebody make a jpeg of this? With the appropriate edits.)
Hahahahaha!!!
Guys I know Luke is dead in game and anything else would be ridiculous. That's not what this thread is about, so try and ease up on the meme's now lol.
Now that I've calmed down, this is a serious question.
Lame how? Personally, I thought it was a proper sendoff for him since it tied together part of what (admittedly) little character development he had.
Why is that exactly?
Oh Jesus Raptors, don't make me go into remission and bring up the mammalian diving reflex again! I was in denial dang it!
Anyway there's no reason he'd fake his own death, and even if there was, I don't think drowning in freezing water under a thick sheet of ice is really the best method unless Luke became a beautiful merman afterwards.
Oh I have a few in mind...q-quite a lot actually ;_; but maybe another time.
A lot of people felt that it was stupid of the group to risk walking on the ice in the first place rather than just walk around. I guess people thought that it was and unsatisfying and avoidable death for Luke.
Well because it wasn't very interesting. Didn't really drive neither the game or his character foward in any way. If the guy had been in the game longer and remained the guy he was, he would have continued playing 4th fiddle behind Kenny, Clementine and Jane. That's why they had to do something different with the guy.
It's not so much about the "how". That could be all be sorted out by the writers. It's more about the emotional aspect of it all. Did you feel that Luke was genuinely close with anyone in the group? I didn't. Sure he got along with most of them on a basic level but that don't mean he was close with them. All his original group were dead by the end of the game.
I think this might be bait...
Well, obviously not very, but I wouldn't say it didn't do anything for his character. You would think that in a world full of zombies, assholes, so-called 'liabilities', bandits, tyrants, and Jane, people would appreciate having someone who is genuinely nice, is active in the field, and most importantly, wants to do the right thing for others( which is essentially the opposite of the likes of Carver). His character seemed to be centered around the fact that he tried to be those things, with a hero complex driving him, but it just wasn't paying off because no one really listened to him, people like Carver and Kenny were running (and stealing) the show, his own limitations as a single human being, and the world had gotten too shitty for this mindset to endure for too long.
That's what his contribution to the observation deck scene basically come down to: he had tried numerous times to do the right thing and everyone/everything seemed to be punishing him for it, so when Jane made him that offer, he finally just gave up for a few minutes so he could enjoy something else. That kind of raw human emotion, vulnerability, and morality is the type of thing that makes characters like Kenny, Lilly, Nick, and Jane so interesting to some, at least in my opinion. It honestly baffled me a bit when I saw that so many people were complaining about him no matter what he did. Up to and including dying, no less!
Now that I think about it, you almost get the feeling that he was unknowingly following in the footsteps of people like Lee....
Fixed.
Well, I get what you are trying to say. I don't think Luke would fake his death though, because of Clem and AJ. I think he would feel too much obligation to Alvin and Rebecca to just abandon their baby with a group of strangers. He also formed a bond with Clem (determinately, I guess), and I don't think he would abandon her either, especially after helping them escape from Carver. Add also his feelings for Jane and his history with Bonnie, and I think he would have stayed as long as he could despite Kenny. He seemed neutral with Mike so that's not the problem.
If this happened after he was injured, that's even more incentive for him to stay, because without a group to protect him and give him medical aid, he would be defenseless and weakened.
Also storywise we already had a fakeout death with Kenny, Luke doing the same would be repetitive.
It is...but for WHAT?!
Kinda like Kenny's character arc!
(Kidding, btw)
For AJ maybe, not for Clementine. I don't think he was all that close to her and in the end Jane or/and Kenny had become a lot closer in my opinion. The fact that he came back to help adds to the situation for me. The same guy who onced risked his life to help deciding to leave the group, showing how messed up things can get in the ZA as time goes along.
I don't think he was all that close to Bonnie and Jane either. I got the feeling that he had rejected Bonnie in the past and I know he slept with Jane but that doesn't mean he was emotionally close to her either. I think he would have definitely lost trust in her once she left the group for a shot while, without telling him.
Even though you have acknowledged this as hypothetical, it does not seem to be leading into a lot of good discussion. The theories are kinda shaky as is, and it doesn't seem to be leading into a lot of varied responses outside of ironic posts.
