Black people and Jews do not hide who they are. This is very noticeable, you know. In contrast to the poor people who hide their orientation, and all live in the shadows, not considering himself a free man. Equality? That's it, we are for equality, because homophobics put LGBT-people lower than animals, and don't considering them human beings. Therefore, it is always a joy and happiness to congratulate person with 'coming out', which feels more freely. With that, person still faces the beating or killing by homophobes.
Just because gay people are killed and beaten in certain places and cultures does that mean that every single gay person becomes better than… more the average person? Becomes deserving of congratulation?
Jews were mistreated and killed in the past, black people were enslaved in the past yet you don't see people congratulating them for being jews or for being born black.
People should be fighting for equality not supermacy, that's all I'm saying. If we want to be equals, we should be treated as equals, and congratulating people for seemingly nothing isn't promoting the equality we want to achieve in any way.
I feel like sharing a sexual orientation is always such an exaggerated event. Like most things, I'm on the fence about announcements like th… moreis, because there's essentially only two responses that you can gauge. Either people are overly enthusiastic for something that isn't all that important in the long run, or they're overly cynical. I find my knee-jerk response is much more of the latter, but at the same time I understand how in a society largely filled with hetero-centric imagery, advertisements, and general biased that "coming out" could be a relieving experience.
It's nice to know that you've found solace and comfort in your skin, most people go their whole lives living a miserable existence. And not just gay or bi people mind you, but I'd recommend taking this time to go out and really discover what it is you want. At least from my personal experiences, many bi-sexual individuals typically go through a phase in which they want psychi… [view original content]
But congratulating you for 'coming out' is the same as congratulating you for being born the way you are. People do not congratulate heterosexual people for being heterosexual, therefore people are still treating you differently for your orientation. People should praise eachother based on their actions, not sexual orientation nor religion nor eye/skin color, doing so feels rather silly.
I'm all for fighting homophobia, but putting homosexual/bisexual people on a podium and treat them as some victims is not the way to change those people's minds. This over exposition and over victimization is promoting the generalization of homosexual people not lessening it. If a person sees gay people being victimized every day on the news, one day that person will start associating 'gay' with 'victim' and that's how that person will start seeing homosexuality from then on.
And jewish people did have to hide their religion.

I never said being bi-sexual is a phase. In fact, I said the opposite. I said rather than seemingly seeking approval and garnering validation, just do you and fuck people's validation.
You're bi, congrats. I'm glad you know what floats your boat, but just don't be too quick to seek that same validation for every little thing that brought you self-discovery.

Well, it's quite hard to hide the fact that you are black.
And between the pogroms of the Spanish Inquisition, the Nazi Holocaust, and the wars within their sole state of Israel, I think the Jew's are no stranger to hiding their identity either. That is very noticeable, you know.

Maybe because heterosexuals are born with their orientation? And it is "normal". I think it is right to congratulate the person that he overcame the fear, and said in front of all of his secret. It is well done. But I'm always happy to congratulate heterosexuals with their orientation too.

Agreed. Perhaps it's reasonable to congratulate somebody on gathering the courage to "come out" to others, but it's pointless to congratulate somebody on having a certain sexual orientation.
I feel like that difference has started a misunderstanding.
This.
I don't see how congratulating people for having a certain sexuality promotes equality in any way. It's like saying 'congratulation… mores for being white/black'. Or 'congratulations for having brown eyes'.
People don't go around telling straight people 'congratulations for liking the oposite sex' do they? Then why are homosexual/bisexual people treated differently? It's ridiculous. The less ruckus the better.

Okay daddy.
You two shouldn't be allowed to post in the same thread.
Thanks, Meg

It's not a phase.
It's with me 19 years.

TWOrds.
NINETEEN.YEARS.
*TWO words.
VALIDATE. YOURSELF.

Actually ... I did it on purpose, my friend.
As you can see, these two words intersect.
TWO + WOrds = TWOrds
Well, you need to think that you should say before answering the next time. And it's not only about this situation.
But in this thread congratulate the man with his coming out, but not his orientation. You did not notice it until now? It has been almost 3 weeks.
